1 O morte, come è amara la memoria tua all'uomo che si contenta nelle ricchezze sue!	1 O death! how bitter the thought of you for the man at peace amid his possessions, For the man unruffled and always successful, who still can enjoy life's pleasures.
2 E all' uomo riposato, e le cui vie sono dirizzate in tutte le prosperitadi, e che ancora puote prendere il cibo!	2 O death! how welcome your sentence to the weak man of failing strength, Tottering and always rebuffed, with no more sight, with vanished hope.
3 O morte, buono è il giudicio tuo all' uomo necessitoso, e che diminuisce le forze!	3 Fear not death's decree for you; remember, it embraces those before you, and those after.
4 E a colui che è difettuoso per vecchiezza, al quale conviene guadagnare ciò che gli bisogna, e allo (stolto) incredibile il quale perde la pazienza!	4 Thus God has ordained for all flesh; why then should you reject the will of the Most High? Whether one has lived a thousand years, a hundred, or ten, in the nether world he has no claim on life.
5 Non temere la sentenza della morte. Ricorditi di quelle cose che avvennero anzi che tu fossi, e che debbono sopravenire; questa sentenza verrà da Dio (sopra te e) a ogni carne.	5 A reprobate line are the children of sinners, and witless offspring are in the homes of the wicked.
6 E che soppraverrae nel piacere dello Altissimo? o dieci o cento o mille anni.	6 Their dominion is lost to sinners' children, and reproach abides with their descendants.
7 Non è in inferno accusazione di vita.	7 Children curse their wicked father, for they suffer disgrace through him.
8 Figliuoli di abbominazione sì sono i figliuoli de' peccatori, e coloro che conversano a lato alle case delli impii.	8 Woe to you, O sinful men, who forsake the law of the Most High.
9 La eredità de' figliuoli de' peccatori partorirà vergogna, è col seme loro continuanza di vituperio.	9 If you have children, calamity will seize them; you will beget them only for groaning. When you stumble, there is lasting joy; at death, you become a curse.
10 Del padre crudele si lamentano i figliuoli, che per lui sono in vituperio.	10 Whatever is of nought returns to nought, so too the godless from void to void.
11 Guai a voi, figliuoli spietati, che abbandonaste la legge di Dio altíssimo!	11 Man's body is a fleeting thing, but a virtuous name will never be annihilated.
12 E se nati sarete, voi sarete generati nella maledizione; e se sarete morti, la parte vostra fia in maledizione.	12 Have a care for your name, for it will stand by you better than precious treasures in the thousands;
13 Tutte le cose che sono di terra, in terra si convertono; così gli empii dalla maledizione anderanno in perdizione.	13 The boon of life is for limited days, but a good name, for days without number.
14 Il pianto delli uomini nel corpo loro; il nome delli impii si disfarae.	14 My children, heed my instruction about shame; judge of disgrace only according to my rules, For it is not always well to be ashamed, nor is it always the proper thing to blush:
15 Abbi cura d'avere buona fama; però che questa ti basterà più che mille grandi tesori preziosi	15 Before father and mother be ashamed of immorality, before master and mistress, of falsehood;
16 La buona vita è numero di dì; ma la buona fama dura sempre.	16 Before prince and ruler, of flattery; before the public assembly, of crime;
17 Figliuolo, sèrbati la disciplina tua in pace; la sapienza nascosa, e il tesoro non veduto, che utilità è dell' uno e dell' altro?	17 Before friend and companion, of disloyalty, and of breaking an oath or agreement.
18 Meglio è l' uomo che nasconde la stoltizia sua, che colui che occulta la sapienza sua.	18 Be ashamed of theft from the people where you settle, and of stretching out your elbow when you dine;
19 Ma impertanto ritornate a quelle parole che escono della bocca mia.	19 Of refusing to give when asked, of defrauding another of his appointed share,
20 Però che non è buono osservare ogni riverenza; e tutte le cose non piaciono a ciascuno in fede.	20 Of failing to return a greeting, and of rebuffing a friend;
21 Vergognatevi dal padre e dalla madre della fornicazione; e dal rettore e dal potente della bugia;	21 Of gazing at a married woman, and of entertaining thoughts about another's wife; Of trifling with a servant girl you have, and of violating her couch;
22 dal principe e dal giudice del misfatto; dalla sinagoga e dal popolo della iniquitade;	22 Of using harsh words with friends, and of following up your gifts with insults;
23 dal compagno e dall' amico della ingiustizia; e dal luogo nel quale abiti,	23 Of repeating what you hear, and of betraying secrets--
24 del furto, della veritade di Dio e del testamento (non osservato); del giacere in sul braccio nella mensa, e di fare mal viso nelli doni e in quelle cose che tu riceverai;	24 These are the things you should rightly avoid as shameful if you would be looked upon by everyone with favor.
25 da quelli che ti salutano di silenzio, da quella veduta della femina fornicaria, e dal rivolgimento del viso del parente.
26 Non volgere la faccia dal prossimo tuo, e guàrdati da togliere la parte, e non restituirla poi.
27 Non attendere alla moglie d' altrui, non cercare la serva sua, e non istare al letto suo.
28 Astienti dalle parole di vituperio delli amici; e quando darai, non rimproperare.
