Isaías 24

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Eis que o Senhor devasta a terra e a torna deserta, transtorna a sua face e dispersa seus habitantes.	1 See how Yahweh lays the earth waste, makes it a desert, buckles its surface, scatters its inhabitants,
2 Isso acontece ao sacerdote como ao leigo, ao senhor como ao escravo, à senhora como à serva, ao vendedor como ao comprador, ao que empresta como ao que toma emprestado, ao credor como ao devedor.	2 priest and people alike, master and slave, mistress and maid, seller and buyer, lender and borrower,creditor and debtor.
3 A terra será totalmente devastada, inteiramente pilhada, porque o Senhor assim o decidiu.	3 Ravaged, ravaged the earth wil be, despoiled, despoiled, for Yahweh has uttered this word.
4 A terra está na desolação, murcha; o mundo definha e esmorece, e os chefes do povo estão aterrados.	4 The earth is mourning, pining away, the pick of earth's people are withering away.
5 A terra foi profanada por seus habitantes, porque transgrediram as leis, violaram as regras e romperam a aliança eterna.	5 The earth is defiled by the feet of its inhabitants, for they have transgressed the laws, violated thedecree, broken the everlasting covenant.
6 Por isso a maldição devora a terra e seus habitantes expiam suas penas; os habitantes da terra são consumidos, um pequeno número de homens sobrevive.	6 That is why the curse has consumed the earth and its inhabitants pay the penalty, that is why theinhabitants of the earth have been burnt up and few people are left.
7 O mosto está triste, a vinha, murcha, e os que tinham o coração em alegria suspiram.	7 The new wine is mourning, the vine is withering away, the once merry-hearted are sighing.
8 O som alegre dos tamborins cessou, os risos morreram e o som alegre da cítara calou-se.	8 The cheerful sound of tambourines is silent, the sound of revel ing is over, the cheerful sound of theharp is silent.
9 Não se canta mais bebendo vinho. O licor é amargo ao bebedor.	9 No more wil they sing over their wine, liquor wil taste bitter to the drinker.
10 A cidade desordenada está em ruínas, todas as casas fechadas, para que ninguém possa entrar nelas.	10 The city of nothingness is in ruins, every house is shut, no one can enter.
11 Gritam nas ruas: Não há mais vinho! Acabada a alegria, o regozijo foi banido da terra.	11 People shout in the streets to try to get wine; al joy has vanished, happiness has been banished fromthe country.
12 Na cidade só restam escombros e a porta arrombada está em pedaços,	12 Nothing but rubble in the city, the gate has col apsed in ruins.
13 pois isso acontece na terra, no meio dos povos, como com as oliveiras que alguém vareja, como com as uvas que, acabada a vindima, alguém rebusca.	13 For at the heart of earth's life, among the peoples, it is as at the beating of the olive trees, as at thegleaning of the grapes when the grape harvest is over.
14 Eles elevam a voz e cantam, do lado do mar aclamam a majestade do Senhor:	14 They raise their voices, shouting for joy, in Yahweh's honour they shout from the west.
15 Glorificai, pois, ao Senhor, nas regiões da luz, e, nas ilhas do mar, o nome do Senhor, Deus de Israel.	15 'Yes, in the east, give glory to Yahweh, in the islands of the sea, to the name of Yahweh, God ofIsrael!'
16 Dos confins da terra, ouvimos cantar: Honra ao justo! Eu, porém, disse: Infeliz de mim, infeliz de mim! Ai de mim! Os salteadores saqueiam, os salteadores obstinam-se na pilhagem.	16 We have heard psalms from the remotest parts of earth, 'Glory to the Upright One!' But I thought,'What an ordeal, what an ordeal! What misery for me!' The traitors have betrayed, the traitors have acted mosttreacherously.
17 O terror, a fossa e a cilada vão apanhar-te, habitante da terra.	17 Fear, the pit and the snare for you, inhabitants of the city!
18 O que fugir para escapar do terror cairá na fossa, o que se livrar da fossa será preso no laço. Porque as comportas lá do alto abrir-se-ão e os fundamentos da terra serão abalados.	18 And whoever flees from the cry of fear wil fal into the pit, and whoever climbs out of the pit will becaught in the snare. Yes, the sluice-gates above are open, the foundations of the earth are quaking.
19 A terra é feita em pedaços: estala, fende-se, é sacudida,	19 A cracking, the earth cracks open, a jolting, the earth gives a jolt, a lurching, the earth lurchesbackwards and forwards.
20 cambaleia como um homem embriagado e balança como uma rede. Seus crimes pesam sobre ela, e ela cairá para não mais se levantar.	20 The earth wil reel to and fro like a drunkard, it will be shaken like a shanty; so heavy wil be its sin onit, it wil fal , never to rise again.
21 Naquele tempo o Senhor, lá do alto, examinará a milícia celeste e os reis do mundo, sobre a terra.	21 When that day comes, Yahweh wil punish the armies of the sky above and on earth the kings of theearth;
22 Serão amontoados como prisioneiros num calabouço, serão encerrados numa prisão, e, depois de muitos dias, serão castigados.	22 they wil be herded together, herded together like prisoners in a dungeon and shut up in gaol, and,after long years, punished.
23 A lua corará de vergonha e o sol empalidecerá, porque o Senhor dos exércitos reinará sobre o monte Sião e em Jerusalém, e sua glória resplandecerá diante de seus anciãos.	23 The moon will be confused and the sun ashamed, for Yahweh Sabaoth is king on Mount Zion and inJerusalem, and the Glory will radiate on their elders.
