1 Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the LORD under Eli. And the word of the LORD was rare in those days; there was no frequent vision.	1 Il giovinetto Samuele serviva il Signore alla presenza d'Eli. La parola del Signore era preziosa in quei giorni, e non vi era visione manifesta.
2 At that time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim, so that he could not see, was lying down in his own place;	2 Or un giorno, mentre Eli, che aveva gli occhi ottenebrati da non poter vedere, stava coricato al suo posto,
3 the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down within the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was.	3 prima che la lampada di Dio fosse spenta, mentre Samuele dormiva nel tempio del Signore, dov'era l'arca di Dio,
4 Then the LORD called, "Samuel! Samuel!" and he said, "Here I am!"	4 avvenne che il Signore chiamò Samuele. E Samuele, dopo aver risposto: « Eccomi »,
5 and ran to Eli, and said, "Here I am, for you called me." But he said, "I did not call; lie down again." So he went and lay down.	5 corse da Eli a dire: « Eccomi: tu mi hai chiamato! » Eli rispose: « Io non ti ho chiamato davvero; torna pure a dormire ». Samuele tornò a dormire.
6 And the LORD called again, "Samuel!" And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, "Here I am, for you called me." But he said, "I did not call, my son; lie down again."	6 Allora il Signore tornò di nuovo a chiamarlo. Ed egli, alzatosi, andò da Eli a dire: « Eccomi, tu mi hai chiamato! » Eli rispose: « Figlio mio, io non ti ho chiamato: ritorna pure a dormire ».
7 Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, and the word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him.	7 Samuele non conosceva ancora il Signore, e la parola del Signore non gli era ancora stata rivelata.
8 And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, "Here I am, for you called me." Then Eli perceived that the LORD was calling the boy.	8 Ma il Signore tornò di nuovo a chiamare per la terza volta Samuele, il quale, alzatosi, andò da Eli,
9 Therefore Eli said to Samuel, "Go, lie down; and if he calls you, you shall say, Speak, LORD, for thy servant hears.'" So Samuel went and lay down in his place.	9 a dire: « Eccomi: tu mi hai chiamato! » Allora Eli, avendo compreso che il Signore chiamava il giovinetto, disse a Samuele: « Torna a dormire; e se di nuovo ti chiamerà, dirai: Parla, o Signore, che il tuo servo ascolta ». Samuele adunque se ne andò a dormire nel suo posto.
10 And the LORD came and stood forth, calling as at other times, "Samuel! Samuel!" And Samuel said, "Speak, for thy servant hears."	10 E il Signore venne e si fermò, e chiamò due volte come nell'addietro: « Samuele, Samuele ». É Samuele rispose: « Parla, o Signore, che il tuo servo ascolta ».
11 Then the LORD said to Samuel, "Behold, I am about to do a thing in Israel, at which the two ears of every one that hears it will tingle.	11 Allora il Signore disse a Samuele: « Ecco, io sto per fare in Israele una cosa che chiunque l'udrà avrà rintronate ambedue le orecchie.
12 On that day I will fulfil against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning to end.	12 In quel giorno io farò precipitare sopra Eli tutto quello che ho detto contro la sua casa: io comincerò e andrò fino in fondo;
13 And I tell him that I am about to punish his house for ever, for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons were blaspheming God, and he did not restrain them.	13 perché, dopo avergli predetto che avrei giudicato la sua casa in eterno, a cagione dell'iniquità, egli, che sapeva come i suoi figli agissero indegnamente, non li ha corretti;
14 Therefore I swear to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be expiated by sacrifice or offering for ever."	14 per questo ho giurato alla casa d'Eli che l'iniquità della sua casa non sarà mai espiata con vittime e con offerte ».
15 Samuel lay until morning; then he opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel was afraid to tell the vision to Eli.	15 Samuele, dopo aver dormito fino alla mattina, aprì le porte della casa del Signore; ma temeva d'indicare ad Eli la visione.
16 But Eli called Samuel and said, "Samuel, my son." And he said, "Here I am."	16 Eli però lo chiamò, egli disse: « Samuele, figlio mio!» Egli rispose: «Eccomi qui ».
17 And Eli said, "What was it that he told you? Do not hide it from me. May God do so to you and more also, if you hide anything from me of all that he told you."	17 Ed Eli disse: « Qual'è la parola cheti ha detto il Signore? Ti prego di non me la tener nascosta: Dio ti faccia questo e peggio, se mi nascondi anche una sola parola di quelle che ti furon dette».
18 So Samuel told him everything and hid nothing from him. And he said, "It is the LORD; let him do what seems good to him."	18 «Allora Samuele gli manifestò tutte le parole senza nasconderne. Ed Eli rispose: « Egli è il Signore: faccia quello che gli sembra bene! »
19 And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground.	19 E Samuele crebbe; il Signore era con lui, e nemmeno una delle sue parole cadde in terra.
20 And all Israel from Dan to Beer-sheba knew that Samuel was established as a prophet of the LORD.	20 E tutto Israele, da Dan fino a Bersabee, riconobbe che Samuele era un fedele profeta del Signore.
21 And the LORD appeared again at Shiloh, for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel at Shiloh by the word of the LORD.	21 E il Signore continuò ad apparire in Silo; che il Signore si era manifestato a Samuele in Silo, secondo la parola del Signore. Or la parola di Samuele pervenne a tutto Israele.
