1 David departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam; and when his brothers and all his father's house heard it, they went down there to him.	1 David sortit donc de Geth, et se retira dans la caverne d'Odollam. Ses frères et toute la maison de son père l'ayant appris, vinrent l'y trouver.
2 And every one who was in distress, and every one who was in debt, and every one who was discontented, gathered to him; and he became captain over them. And there were with him about four hundred men.	2 Et tous ceux qui se trouvaient dans la détresse, et ceux qui étaient accablés de dettes, et mécontents, s'assemblèrent auprès de lui. Il devint leur chef, et il se trouva avec lui environ quatre cents hommes.
3 And David went from there to Mizpeh of Moab; and he said to the king of Moab, "Pray let my father and my mother stay with you, till I know what God will do for me."	3 Il s'en alla de là à Maspha, qui est au pays de Moab; et il dit au roi de Moab: Permettez, je vous prie, que mon père et ma mère demeurent avec vous, jusqu'à ce que je sache ce que Dieu ordonnera de moi.
4 And he left them with the king of Moab, and they stayed with him all the time that David was in the stronghold.	4 Il les laissa auprès du roi de Moab, et ils y demeurèrent tout le temps que David fut dans la forteresse.
5 Then the prophet Gad said to David, "Do not remain in the stronghold; depart, and go into the land of Judah." So David departed, and went into the forest of Hereth.	5 Ensuite le prophète Gad dit à David: Ne demeurez pas dans ce fort; sortez-en, et allez dans la terre de Juda. David partit donc de ce lieu-là, et vint dans la forêt de Haret.
6 Now Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men who were with him. Saul was sitting at Gibe-ah, under the tamarisk tree on the height, with his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing about him.	6 Saül fut aussitôt averti que David avait paru avec les hommes qui l'accompagnaient. Or, pendant qu'il demeurait à Gabaa, un jour qu'il était dans un bois près de Rama, ayant sa lance à la main, et étant environné de tous ses officiers,
7 And Saul said to his servants who stood about him, "Hear now, you Benjaminites; will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards, will he make you all commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds,	7 il dit à ceux qui étaient auprès de lui: Ecoutez-moi, enfants de Benjamin. Le fils d'Isaï vous donnera-t-il à tous des champs et des vignes, et vous fera-t-il tous tribuns et centeniers,
8 that all of you have conspired against me? No one discloses to me when my son makes a league with the son of Jesse, none of you is sorry for me or discloses to me that my son has stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day."	8 pour que vous ayez tous conjuré contre moi, comme vous avez fait, sans qu'il y ait personne pour m'avertir; à ce point que mon fils a fait alliance avec le fils d'Isaï? Il n'y en a pas un d'entre vous qui soit touché de mon malheur, ni qui m'avertisse que mon propre fils a soulevé contre moi l'un de mes serviteurs, lequel ne cesse jusqu'à ce jour de me tendre des pièges.
9 Then answered Doeg the Edomite, who stood by the servants of Saul, "I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub,	9 Doëg l'Iduméen, qui était alors présent et le premier d'entre les officiers de Saül, lui répondit: J'ai vu le fils d'Isaï à Nobé, chez le grand prêtre Achimélech fils d'Achitob.
10 and he inquired of the LORD for him, and gave him provisions, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine."	10 Celui-ci a consulté le Seigneur pour lui, et lui a donné des vivres, et même l'épée du Philistin Goliath.
11 Then the king sent to summon Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father's house, the priests who were at Nob; and all of them came to the king.	11 Le roi envoya donc chercher le grand prêtre Achimélech fils d'Achitob, avec tous les prêtres de la maison de son père qui étaient à Nobé; et ils vinrent tous auprès du roi.
12 And Saul said, "Hear now, son of Ahitub." And he answered, "Here I am, my lord."	12 Saül dit alors à Achimélech: Ecoutez, fils d'Achitob. Achimélech lui répondit: Me voici, seigneur?
13 And Saul said to him, "Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread and a sword, and have inquired of God for him, so that he has risen against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?"	13 Saül ajouta: Pourquoi avez-vous conjuré contre moi, vous et le fils d'Isaï? Pourquoi lui avez-vous donné des pains et une épée, et pourquoi avez-vous consulté Dieu pour lui afin qu'il s'élevât contre moi, lui qui ne cesse jusqu'à ce jour de me tendre des embûches?
14 Then Ahimelech answered the king, "And who among all your servants is so faithful as David, who is the king's son-in-law, and captain over your bodyguard, and honored in your house?	14 Achimélech répondit au roi: Y a-t-il quelqu'un parmi tous vos serviteurs qui vous soit aussi fidèle que David, lui qui est le gendre du roi, qui marche pour exécuter vos ordres, et qui est honoré dans votre maison?
15 Is today the first time that I have inquired of God for him? No! Let not the king impute anything to his servant or to all the house of my father; for your servant has known nothing of all this, much or little."	15 Est-ce aujourd'hui que j'ai commencé à consulter le Seigneur pour lui? Loin de moi! et que le roi ne conçoive pas un soupçon si désavantageux de moi, ni de toute la maison de mon père; car votre serviteur n'a su quoi que ce soit de cette affaire.
16 And the king said, "You shall surely die, Ahimelech, you and all your father's house."	16 Le roi lui dit: Vous mourrez, Achimélech, vous et toute la maison de votre père.
17 And the king said to the guard who stood about him, "Turn and kill the priests of the LORD; because their hand also is with David, and they knew that he fled, and did not disclose it to me." But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of the LORD.	17 Il dit ensuite aux gardes qui l'environnaient: Tournez-vous et tuez les prêtres du Seigneur; car ils sont d'intelligence avec David. Ils savaient qu'il s'enfuyait, et ils ne m'ont point averti. Mais les officiers du roi ne voulurent pas porter leurs mains sur les prêtres du Seigneur.
18 Then the king said to Doeg, "You turn and fall upon the priests." And Doeg the Edomite turned and fell upon the priests, and he killed on that day eighty-five persons who wore the linen ephod.	18 Alors le roi dit à Doêg: Toi, tourne-toi et jette-toi sur ces prêtres. Et Doêg l'Iduméen, se tournant contre les prêtres, se jeta sur eux, et tua en ce jour-là quatre-vingt-cinq hommes qui portaient l'éphod de lin.
19 And Nob, the city of the priests, he put to the sword; both men and women, children and sucklings, oxen, asses and sheep, he put to the sword.	19 Il alla ensuite à Nobé, qui était une ville des prêtres, et il fit passer au fil de l'épée les hommes et les femmes, sans épargner les petits enfants, ni ceux même qui étaient à la mamelle, ni les boeufs, ni les ânes, ni les brebis.
20 But one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped and fled after David.	20 Mais l'un des fils d'Achimélech, fils d'Achitob, qui s'appelait Abiathar, s'échappa et s'enfuit vers David;
21 And Abiathar told David that Saul had killed the priests of the LORD.	21 et il vint lui dire que Saül avait tué les prêtres du Seigneur.
22 And David said to Abiathar, "I knew on that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul. I have occasioned the death of all the persons of your father's house.	22 David répondit à Abiathar: Je savais bien, ce jour-là, que Doëg l'Iduméen, qui était présent, ne manquerait pas d'avertir Saül. Je suis cause de la mort de toute la maison de votre père.
23 Stay with me, fear not; for he that seeks my life seeks your life; with me you shall be in safekeeping."	23 Demeurez avec moi, et ne craignez rien. Si quelqu'un cherche ma vie, il cherchera aussi la vôtre, et vous serez sauvé avec moi.
