1 Samuel 21

1 Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest; and Ahimelech came to meet David trembling, and said to him, "Why are you alone, and no one with you?"	1 E David venne in Nobe ad Achimelec sacerdote; e (all' andata di David) maravigliossi molto Achimelec, però che gli era venuto David; (e andogli incontro) e disse: come se' tu così solo, e non è persona teco?
2 And David said to Ahimelech the priest, "The king has charged me with a matter, and said to me, Let no one know anything of the matter about which I send you, and with which I have charged you.' I have made an appointment with the young men for such and such a place.	2 E disse David ad Achimelec sacerdote: il re mi comandò, che niuna persona sapesse quello [per] che mi manda, e quello che m'è imposto; e ho menati fanti a tale e a tale luogo.
3 Now then, what have you at hand? Give me five loaves of bread, or whatever is here."	3 Or ciò che tu hai alle mani, o pur cinque pani, dammegli, o qualunque altra cosa tu hai alle mani.
4 And the priest answered David, "I have no common bread at hand, but there is holy bread; if only the young men have kept themselves from women."	4 E respuose il sacerdote a David, e disse: io non ho pani laici alle mani, ma solamente pane santo; se i tuoi compagni sono mondi, e specialmente di femine, (manùcane).
5 And David answered the priest, "Of a truth women have been kept from us as always when I go on an expedition; the vessels of the young men are holy, even when it is a common journey; how much more today will their vessels be holy?"	5 E David respondendo disse al sacerdote: se sì di femina si ragiona, noi ci siamo guardati ieri e l'altro, quando ci partimmo, e sono le vasa de' giovani sante: vero è che questa via è polluta, ma sarà santificata nelle vasa.
6 So the priest gave him the holy bread; for there was no bread there but the bread of the Presence, which is removed from before the LORD, to be replaced by hot bread on the day it is taken away.	6 E il sacerdote gli diede il pane santificato; però che ivi non era, se non il pane della proposizione; il quale era levato del cospetto di Dio, per ponervi il pane caldo.
7 Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the LORD; his name was Doeg the Edomite, the chief of Saul's herdsmen.	7 E ivi in quel dì era uno uomo, de' servi di Saul, dentro nel tabernacolo di Dio, il quale avea nome Doeg di Idumea, potentissimo de' pastori di Saul.
8 And David said to Ahimelech, "And have you not here a spear or a sword at hand? For I have brought neither my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king's business required haste."	8 E David disse ad Achimelec, se tu avesti qui alle mani lancia o spada; perchè il mio coltello e le mie armi non le recai con meco, chè il comandamento del re istrigneva.
9 And the priest said, "The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod; if you will take that, take it, for there is none but that here." And David said, "There is none like that; give it to me."	9 E disse il sacerdote: e qui si è il coltello di Goliat Filisteo, il quale tu uccidesti nella valle della quercia, ed è ravvolto in uno pallio dopo il vestimento sacerdotale; se questo vogli, tôlo, però che qui non è veruno altro che questo. E David disse: veruno non è simile a questo, dammelo.
10 And David rose and fled that day from Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.	10 E levossi David, e fuggì in quel dì dal cospetto di Saul; e vènnesene ad Achis re di Get.
11 And the servants of Achish said to him, "Is not this David the king of the land? Did they not sing to one another of him in dances, Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands'?"	11 E i servi di Achis dissero a lui, veggendo David: non è egli questo David re della terra? non cantavano egli ne' balli, dicendo: Saul n' uccise mille, e David X milia?
12 And David took these words to heart, and was much afraid of Achish the king of Gath.	12 E David queste parole notò nel suo cuore, e temette molto nella presenzia di Achis re di Get.
13 So he changed his behavior before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and made marks on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle run down his beard.	13 E mutò la bocca sua nel cospetto loro, e cadeva tra le loro mani, e percotevasi nelle reggie delle porte; il suo sputo gli correa per la bocca.
14 Then said Achish to his servants, "Lo, you see the man is mad; why then have you brought him to me?	14 E Achis disse a' suoi servi: vedeste uomo senza senno; perchè l' avete voi menato a me?
15 Do I lack madmen, that you have brought this fellow to play the madman in my presence? Shall this fellow come into my house?"	15 Non abbiamo noi de' pazzi? avetelo voi menato, acciò che facci pazzie nella presenzia mia? Lasciatelo quivi, e non entri nella mia casa.
