1 Samuel 1

1 There was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim of the hill country of Ephraim, whose name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham, son of Elihu, son of Tohu, son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.	1 Había un hombre de Ramataim, un sufita de la montaña de Efraím, que se llamaba Elcaná, hijo de Ierojam, hijo de Eliú, hijo de Toju, hijo de Suf, efraimita.
2 He had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah. And Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.	2 El tenía dos mujeres: una se llamaba Ana y la otra Peniná. Peniná tenía hijos, pero Ana no tenía ninguno.
3 Now this man used to go up year by year from his city to worship and to sacrifice to the LORD of hosts at Shiloh, where the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were priests of the LORD.	3 Este hombre subía cada año desde su ciudad, para adorar y ofrecer sacrificios al Señor en Silo. Allí eran sacerdotes del Señor, Jofni y Pinjás, los dos hijos de Elí.
4 On the day when Elkanah sacrificed, he would give portions to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and daughters;	4 El día en que Elcaná ofrecía su sacrificio, daba a su esposa Peniná, y a todos sus hijos e hijas, porciones de la víctima.
5 and, although he loved Hannah, he would give Hannah only one portion, because the LORD had closed her womb.	5 Pero a Ana le daba una porción especial, porque la amaba, aunque el Señor la había hecho estéril.
6 And her rival used to provoke her sorely, to irritate her, because the LORD had closed her womb.	6 Su rival la afligía constantemente para humillarla, por el Señor la había hecho estéril.
7 So it went on year by year; as often as she went up to the house of the LORD, she used to provoke her. Therefore Hannah wept and would not eat.	7 Así sucedía año tras año cada vez que ella subía a la Casa del Señor, la otra la afligía de la misma manera. Entonces Ana se ponía a llorar y no quería comer.
8 And Elkanah, her husband, said to her, "Hannah, why do you weep? And why do you not eat? And why is your heart sad? Am I not more to you than ten sons?"	8 Pero Elcaná, su marido, le dijo: «Ana, ¿por qué lloras y no quieres comer? ¿Por qué estas triste? ¿No valgo yo para ti más que diez hijos?».
9 After they had eaten and drunk in Shiloh, Hannah rose. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat beside the doorpost of the temple of the LORD.	9 Después que comieron y bebieron en Silo, Ana se levantó. Mientras tanto, el sacerdote Elí estaba sentado en su silla a la puerta del Templo del Señor.
10 She was deeply distressed and prayed to the LORD, and wept bitterly.	10 Entonces Ana, con el alma llena de amargura, oró al Señor y lloró desconsoladamente.
11 And she vowed a vow and said, "O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thy maidservant, and remember me, and not forget thy maidservant, but wilt give to thy maidservant a son, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall touch his head."	11 Luego hizo este voto: «Señor de los ejércitos, si miras la miseria de tu servidora y te acuerdas de mí, si no te olvidas de tu servidora y le das un hijo varón, yo lo entregaré al Señor para toda su vida, y la navaja no pasará por su cabeza».
12 As she continued praying before the LORD, Eli observed her mouth.	12 Mientras ella prolongaba su oración delante del Señor, Elí miraba atentamente su boca.
13 Hannah was speaking in her heart; only her lips moved, and her voice was not heard; therefore Eli took her to be a drunken woman.	13 Ana oraba en silencio; sólo se movían sus labios, pero no se oía su voz. Elí pensó que estaba ebria,
14 And Eli said to her, "How long will you be drunken? Put away your wine from you."	14 y le dijo: «¿Hasta cuándo te va a durar la borrachera? ¡Ve a que se te pase el efecto del vino!».
15 But Hannah answered, "No, my lord, I am a woman sorely troubled; I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I have been pouring out my soul before the LORD.	15 Ana respondió: «No, mi señor; yo soy una mujer que sufre mucho. No he bebido vino ni nada que pueda embriagar; sólo me estaba desahogando delante del Señor.
16 Do not regard your maidservant as a base woman, for all along I have been speaking out of my great anxiety and vexation."	16 No tomes a tu servidora por una mujer cualquiera; si he estado hablando hasta ahora, ha sido por el exceso de mi congoja y mi dolor».
17 Then Eli answered, "Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have made to him."	17 «Vete en paz, le respondió Elí, y que el Dios de Israel te conceda lo que tanto le has pedido».
18 And she said, "Let your maidservant find favor in your eyes." Then the woman went her way and ate, and her countenance was no longer sad.	18 Ana le dijo entonces: «¡Que tu servidora pueda gozar siempre de tu favor!». Luego la mujer se fue por su camino, comió algo y cambió de semblante.
19 They rose early in the morning and worshiped before the LORD; then they went back to their house at Ramah. And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and the LORD remembered her;	19 A la mañana siguiente, se levantaron bien temprano y se postraron delante del Señor; luego regresaron a su casa en Ramá, Elcaná se unió a su esposa Ana, y el Señor se acordó de ella.
20 and in due time Hannah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Samuel, for she said, "I have asked him of the LORD."	20 Ana concibió, y a su debido tiempo dio a luz un hijo, al que puso el nombre de Samuel, diciendo: «Se lo he pedido al Señor».
21 And the man Elkanah and all his house went up to offer to the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and to pay his vow.	21 El marido, Elcaná, subió con toda su familia para ofrecer al Señor el sacrificio anual y cumplir su voto.
22 But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, "As soon as the child is weaned, I will bring him, that he may appear in the presence of the LORD, and abide there for ever."	22 Pero Ana no subió, porque dijo a su marido: «No iré hasta que el niño deje de mamar. Entonces lo llevaré, y el se presentará delante del Señor y se quedará allí para siempre».
23 Elkanah her husband said to her, "Do what seems best to you, wait until you have weaned him; only, may the LORD establish his word." So the woman remained and nursed her son, until she weaned him.	23 Elcaná, su marido, le dijo: «Puedes hacer lo que mejor te parezca. Quédate hasta que lo hayas destetado, y ojalá que el Señor cumpla su palabra». La mujer se quedó, y crió a su hijo hasta que lo destetó.
24 And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, along with a three-year-old bull, an ephah of flour, and a skin of wine; and she brought him to the house of the LORD at Shiloh; and the child was young.	24 Cuando el niño dejó de mamar, lo subió con ella, llevando además un novillo de tres años, una medida de harina y un odre de vino, y lo condujo a la Casa del Señor en Silo. El niño era aún muy pequeño.
25 Then they slew the bull, and they brought the child to Eli.	25 Y después de inmolar el novillo, se lo llevaron a Elí.
26 And she said, "Oh, my lord! As you live, my lord, I am the woman who was standing here in your presence, praying to the LORD.	26 Ella dijo: «Perdón, señor mío, ¡por tu vida, señor!, yo soy aquella mujer que estuvo aquí junto a ti, para orar al Señor.
27 For this child I prayed; and the LORD has granted me my petition which I made to him.	27 Era este niño lo que yo suplicaba al Señor, y él me concedió lo que le pedía.
28 Therefore I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he lives, he is lent to the LORD." And they worshipped the LORD there.	28 Ahora yo, a mi vez, se lo cedo a él; para toda su vida queda cedido al Señor». Después se postraron delante del Señor.
