1 Then Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, "My daughter, should I not seek a home for you, that it may be well with you?	1 Rut dopo che fu ritornata dalla sua suocera sentì dirsi da lei: « Figlia mia, io ti cercherò la pace e farò che tu sia felice:
2 Now is not Boaz our kinsman, with whose maidens you were? See, he is winnowing barley tonight at the threshing floor.	2 quel Booz, colle fanciulle del quale sei stata nel campo, è no­stro parente, e stanotte vaglia l'orzo nella sua aia.
3 Wash therefore and anoint yourself, and put on your best clothes and go down to the threshing floor; but do not make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking.	3 Su via lavati, ungiti, indossa le vesti mi­gliori, e va all'aia; ma non ti far vedere da quell'uomo, fin­ché non abbia finito di mangia­re e di bere.
4 But when he lies down, observe the place where he lies; then, go and uncover his feet and lie down; and he will tell you what to do."	4 Quando poi andrà a dormire, guarda dove dorme, accostati, alzagli il mantello dal­la parte dei piedi, e mettiti lì a dormire, chè poi lui ti dirà quel che tu abbia a fare ».
5 And she replied, "All that you say I will do."	5 Rut ri­spose: « Farò quanto mi dici ».
6 So she went down to the threshing floor and did just as her mother-in-law had told her.	6 Infatti andò all'aia e fece tutto ciò che la suocera le aveva or­dinato.
7 And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain. Then she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and lay down.	7 Or quando Booz dopo aver mangiato e bevuto, col cuore traboccante di gioia, andò a dor­mire presso il monte dei covoni, Rut vi andò di nascosto, e al­zatogli il mantello dalla parte dei piedi, vi si coricò.
8 At midnight the man was startled, and turned over, and behold, a woman lay at his feet!	8 Nel mez­zo della notte Booz fu preso dallo spavento e dal turbamento nel vedere una donna che gia­ceva ai suoi piedi,
9 He said, "Who are you?" And she answered, "I am Ruth, your maidservant; spread your skirt over your maidservant, for you are next of kin."	9 e le disse: « Chi sei tu? » Ed essa rispose: « Io sono Rut tua serva: stendi il tuo mantello sopra la tua ser­va, perchè tu sei mio parente ».
10 And he said, "May you be blessed by the LORD, my daughter; you have made this last kindness greater than the first, in that you have not gone after young men, whether poor or rich.	10 Ed egli rispose: « Figlia, tusei benedetta dal Signore, tu hai superato coll'ultima la prima misericordia, perchè non sei an­data dietro ai giovani, poveri o ricchi che siano.
11 And now, my daughter, do not fear, I will do for you all that you ask, for all my fellow townsmen know that you are a woman of worth.	11 Non temere adunque: io farò per te quanto mi dirai, perchè tutto il popolo che abita dentro le porte della mia città sa che sei una donna virtuosa.
12 And now it is true that I am a near kinsman, yet there is a kinsman nearer than I.	12 Io non nego di esse­re parente; ma ve n'è un altro più stretto di me.
13 Remain this night, and in the morning, if he will do the part of the next of kin for you, well; let him do it; but if he is not willing to do the part of the next of kin for you, then, as the LORD lives, I will do the part of the next of kin for you. Lie down until the morning."	13 Riposati qui stanotte, e domani, se egli vorrà prenderti pel diritto di parente­la, bene; ma se non vorrà pren­derti lui, senza dubbio alcuno, ti prenderò io. Viva il Signore! Dormi fino al mattino ».
14 So she lay at his feet until the morning, but arose before one could recognize another; and he said, "Let it not be known that the woman came to the threshing floor."	14 Rut dormì adunque ai piedi di Booz sino al finir della notte, e si alzò prima che gli uomini potessero conoscersi l'un l'altro. Allora Booz le disse: « Guarda che nes­suno sappia che sei venuta qui ».
15 And he said, "Bring the mantle you are wearing and hold it out." So she held it, and he measured out six measures of barley, and laid it upon her; then she went into the city.	15 Le disse ancora: « Stendi il mantello che hai addosso e tienlo colle mani ». Avendo essa teso e tenuto il mantello, Booz le diede sei moggia d'orzo e glielo pose sulle spalle. Rut lo portò via, ed entrata in città,
16 And when she came to her mother-in-law, she said, "How did you fare, my daughter?" Then she told her all that the man had done for her,	16 andò dalla sua suocera, la quale le disse: « Che hai dunque fatto, fi­glia mia? » Rut le raccontò tut­to ciò che le aveva detto quel­l'uomo,
17 saying, "These six measures of barley he gave to me, for he said, 'You must not go back empty-handed to your mother-in-law.'"	17 e aggiunse: « M'ha anche dato sei moggia d'orzo, dicendomi: Non voglio che tu ritorni dalla tua suocera a mani vuote ».
18 She replied, "Wait, my daughter, until you learn how the matter turns out, for the man will not rest, but will settle the matter today."	18 Noemi disse: « Aspetta, o figlia, finché non si sappia come va a finir la cosa; che quell'uomo non si darà pace finché non avrà eseguito quanto ha promesso ».
