1 The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.	1 Il presbitero al caro Gaio, che io amo nella verità.
2 Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in health; I know that it is well with your soul.	2 Carissimo, ti auguro che tutto vada bene e che tu goda buona salute, come va bene la tua anima.
3 For I greatly rejoiced when some of the brethren arrived and testified to the truth of your life, as indeed you do follow the truth.	3 Ho provato infatti gran gioia quando sono venuti alcuni fratelli e hanno reso testimonianza alla tua verità, come tu cammini nella verità.
4 No greater joy can I have than this, to hear that my children follow the truth.	4 Non ho gioia maggiore di questa: sentire che i miei figli camminano nella verità.
5 Beloved, it is a loyal thing you do when you render any service to the brethren, especially to strangers,	5 Carissimo, tu ti comporti fedelmente in ciò che fai verso i fratelli pur essendo forestieri.
6 who have testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their journey as befits God's service.	6 Essi hanno reso testimonianza alla tua carità davanti alla chiesa. Tu farai bene se li provvederai del necessario per il viaggio, in modo degno di Dio.
7 For they have set out for his sake and have accepted nothing from the heathen.	7 Infatti si sono messi in cammino per il nome di Gesù, senza ricevere nulla dai pagani.
8 So we ought to support such men, that we may be fellow workers in the truth.	8 Noi quindi dobbiamo sostenere tali uomini per mostrarci collaboratori della verità.
9 I have written something to the church; but Diotrephes, who likes to put himself first, does not acknowledge my authority.	9 Ho scritto qualcosa alla chiesa; ma Diotrefe, che ambisce il primo posto tra loro, non ci riconosce.
10 So if I come, I will bring up what he is doing, prating against me with evil words. And not content with that, he refuses himself to welcome the brethren, and also stops those who want to welcome them and puts them out of the church.	10 Per questo, quando verrò, gli rimprovererò le azioni che compie accusandoci ingiustamente con parole malvagie e, non contento di ciò, non vuole accogliere i fratelli e impedisce di farlo a quelli che vogliono accoglierli e li espelle dalla chiesa.
11 Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate good. He who does good is of God; he who does evil has not seen God.	11 Carissimo, non imitare il male, ma il bene. Chi fa il bene è da Dio, chi fa il male non ha veduto Dio.
12 Demetrius has testimony from every one, and from the truth itself; I testify to him too, and you know my testimony is true.	12 A Demetrio è data testimonianza da tutti, anche dalla stessa verità. Noi pure gli diamo testimonianza e tu sai che la nostra testimonianza è vera.
13 I had much to write to you, but I would rather not write with pen and ink	13 Avrei molte cose da scriverti, ma non voglio farlo per mezzo d'inchiostro e di penna.
14 I hope to see you soon, and we will talk together face to face.	14 Spero invece di vederti presto e ci parleremo a faccia a faccia.
