1 John 4

1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are of God; for many false prophets have gone out into the world.	1 - Carissimi, non vogliate credere a ogni spirito, ma provate gli spiriti [per accertarvi] se son da Dio; poichè molti falsi profeti si aggirano per il mondo.
2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit which confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God,	2 Lo spirito di Dio si riconosce da questo: ogni spirito che confessa che Gesù Cristo è venuto in carne, è da Dio;
3 and every spirit which does not confess Jesus is not of God. This is the spirit of antichrist, of which you heard that it was coming, and now it is in the world already.	3 ma ogni spirito che divide Gesù, non è da Dio; e questi è un anticristo, del quale avete udito che viene, e già fin d'adesso è nel mondo.
4 Little children, you are of God, and have overcome them; for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.	4 Voi, figliuolini, siete da Dio e avete vinto colui, perchè chi è in voi è più potente di colui, che sta nel mondo.
5 They are of the world, therefore what they say is of the world, and the world listens to them.	5 Essi sono nel mondo: per questo parlano cose del mondo e il mondo li ascolta.
6 We are of God. Whoever knows God listens to us, and he who is not of God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.	6 Noi siamo da Dio. Chi conosce Dio, ci ascolta; chi non è da Dio, non ci ascolta; da ciò distinguiamo lo spirito di verità dallo spirito di errore.
7 Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God, and he who loves is born of God and knows God.	7 Carissimi, amiamoci l'un l'altro; perchè la carità è da Dio. E chi ama è nato da Dio e conosce Dio.
8 He who does not love does not know God; for God is love.	8 Chi non ama, non ha conosciuto Dio, perchè Dio è carità.
9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.	9 In questo si è manifestata la carità di Dio verso di noi; che Dio mandò il suo Figlio Unigenito nel mondo, affinchè per mezzo di Lui abbiamo vita.
10 In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the expiation for our sins.	10 In questo è la carità; che senza aver noi amato Dio, Egli per primo ci ha amati, e ha mandato il suo Figliuolo come propiziazione per i nostri peccati.
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.	11 Carissimi, se Dio ci ha amato così, anche noi dobbiamo amarci l'un l'altro.
12 No man has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.	12 Nessuno ha mai veduto Dio. Se ci amiamo l'un l'altro, Dio abita in noi e la carità di Lui è perfetta.
13 By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his own Spirit.	13 Da questo conosciamo che noi siamo in Lui ed Egli in noi; perchè Egli ci ha dato del suo Spirito.
14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son as the Savior of the world.	14 E noi abbiam veduto e attestiamo che il Padre ha mandato il suo Figliuolo Salvatore del mondo.
15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.	15 Chiunque confesserà che Gesù è il Figliuol di Dio, Dio dimora in Lui ed egli in Dio.
16 So we know and believe the love God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.	16 E noi abbiamo conosciuto e creduto alla carità, che Dio ha per noi. Dio è carità: e chi sta nella carità, sta in Dio e Dio in lui.
17 In this is love perfected with us, that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so are we in this world.	17 In questo è perfetta la carità di Dio in noi, se abbiamo fiducia pel dì del giudizio: perchè quale Egli è, tali pure siamo noi in questo mondo.
18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and he who fears is not perfected in love.	18 Il timore non sta nella carità; ma la carità perfetta manda via il timore, perchè il timore ha in sè il tormento; e chi teme non è perfetto nella carità.
19 We love, because he first loved us.	19 Noi dunque amiamo Dio, poichè Egli per il primo ci ha amati.
20 If any one says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen.	20 Ma se uno dirà: «Io amo Dio»; e odierà il suo fratello, è mentitore. Infatti chi non ama il suo fratello, che vede, come può amare Dio che non vede?
21 And this commandment we have from him, that he who loves God should love his brother also.	21 E questo comandamento abbiamo da Dio: che chi ama Dio, ami anche il proprio fratello.
