1 Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest remains, let us fear lest any of you be judged to have failed to reach it.	1 Temamos pois que, desprezando a promessa (de Deus) de entrar no seu descanso, haja algum dentre vós que dele seja excluído.
2 For good news came to us just as to them; but the message which they heard did not benefit them, because it did not meet with faith in the hearers.	2 Da mesma forma que eles (Israelitas), também nós recebemos a boa nova; porém a palavra que eles ouviram, não lhes aproveitou, por não ser acompanhada da fé por parte daqueles que a tinham ouvido.
3 For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said, "As I swore in my wrath, 'They shall never enter my rest," although his works were finished from the foundation of the world.	3 Porém nós, que cremos, entraremos no descanso (do céu), segundo disse: Como jurei na minha ira , não entrarão no meu descanso (S. 95,11). Com certeza (Deus fala daquele descanso que teve lugar quando) estavam concluídas as suas obras depois da criação do mundo.
4 For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way, "And God rested on the seventh day from all his works."	4 Com efeito, em certo lugar falou assim do sétimo dia: E Deus descansou no sétimo dia de todos as suas obras (Gn. 2, 2).
5 And again in this place he said, "They shall never enter my rest."	5 E outra vez: Não entrarão no meu descanso (Ps. 94, 11).
6 Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news failed to enter because of disobedience,	6 Como, pois, alguns entram nele, e aqueles, a quem primeiro foi anunciada a boa nova, não entraram por causa da sua incredulidade,
7 again he sets a certain day, "Today," saying through David so long afterward, in the words already quoted, "Today, when you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts."	7 (Deus) fixa de novo um certo dia (que ele chama). Hoje, dizendo, por meio de David, muito tempo depois, o que acima foi citado: Hoje, se ouvirdes a sua voz, não endureçais os vossos corações.
8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not speak later of another day.	8 De fato, se Josué lhes tivesse dado o descanso, Deus não teria falado, depois disso, de um outro dia.
9 So then, there remains a sabbath rest for the people of God;	9 Resta portanto um repouso sabático ( no céu) para o povo de Deus.
10 for whoever enters God's rest also ceases from his labors as God did from his.	10 Realmente aquele que entrou no descanso de Deus, também repousa das suas obras, como Deus das dele.
11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, that no one fall by the same sort of disobedience.	11 Apressemos-nos, pois, a entrar naquele descanso, para que ninguém caia, dando tal exemplo de desobediência.
12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.	12 Porque a palavra de Deus é viva, eficaz e mais penetrante do que toda a espada de dois gumes; chega até à separação da alma e do espírito, das junturas e das medulas, e discerne os pensamentos e intenções do coração.
13 And before him no creature is hidden, but all are open and laid bare to the eyes of him with whom we have to do.	13 Não há nenhuma criatura invisível na sua presença, mas todas as coisas estão a nu e a descoberto, aos olhos daquele de quem falamos.
14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.	14 Tendo nós, pois, um grande pontífice, que penetrou os céus, Jesus, Filho de Deus, sejamos firmes na profissão da nossa fé.
15 For we have not a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.	15 Não temos um pontífice que não possa compadecer-se das nossas enfermidades, mas que foi tentado em tudo á nossa semelhança, excepto no pecado.
16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.	16 Aproximemo-nos, pois, confiadamente do trono da graça, a fim de alcançar misericórdia e de encontrar graça, para sermos socorridos em tempo oportuno.
