1 Paul, a prisoner for Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, To Philemon our beloved fellow worker	1 - Paolo, prigioniero di Cristo Gesù e il fratello Timoteo al caro Filemone nostro cooperatore,
2 and Apphia our sister and Archippus our fellow soldier, and the church in your house:	2 e alla sorella Appia, e ad Archippo nostro compagno d'armi e alla chiesa di casa tua,
3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.	3 grazia a voi e pace da Dio nostro Padre e dal Signor Gesù Cristo.
4 I thank my God always when I remember you in my prayers,	4 Ringrazio il mio Dio ogni volta, e fo menzione di te nelle mie preghiere,
5 because I hear of your love and of the faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and all the saints,	5 udendo l'amor tuo e la fede che hai nel Signor Gesù e in tutti i santi;
6 and I pray that the sharing of your faith may promote the knowledge of all the good that is ours in Christ.	6 prego che la comunanza della fede tua diventi efficace nel far riconoscere tutto il bene che è fra noi in Cristo.
7 For I have derived much joy and comfort from your love, my brother, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you.	7 Davvero una gran gioia io ebbi e consolazione per l'amor tuo; perchè le viscere dei santi per l'opera tua ebbero un grande sollievo, o fratello.
8 Accordingly, though I am bold enough in Christ to command you to do what is required,	8 Per la qual cosa, pur avendo in Cristo molta libertà di ordinarti quel che convenga,
9 yet for love's sake I prefer to appeal to you--I, Paul, an ambassador and now a prisoner also for Christ Jesus--	9 preferisco pregarti a titolo di carità, così come sono, Paolo, vecchio e ora anche prigioniero di Cristo Gesù.
10 I appeal to you for my child, Onesimus, whose father I have become in my imprisonment.	10 Ti prego per il figlio mio, che ho generato tra le catene, Onesimo,
11 (Formerly he was useless to you, but now he is indeed useful to you and to me.)	11 quello che una volta fu disutile a te, e ora sarà a te e a me utilissimo;

13 I would have been glad to keep him with me, in order that he might serve me on your behalf during my imprisonment for the gospel;	13 Lo volevo tenere presso di me, affinchè in vece tua mi servisse nelle catene del Vangelo;
14 but I preferred to do nothing without your consent in order that your goodness might not be by compulsion but of your own free will.	14 ma non ho voluto far nulla senza il tuo parere, affinchè il benefizio tuo non fosse forzato ma volontario.
15 Perhaps this is why he was parted from you for a while, that you might have him back for ever,	15 Giacchè forse per questo fu separato da te per un po' di tempo, affinchè tu lo ricuperassi in eterno,
16 no longer as a slave but more than a slave, as a beloved brother, especially to me but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord.	16 non più come schiavo, ma più che schiavo fratello carissimo, massime per me quanto più per te, e nella carne e nel Signore.
17 So if you consider me your partner, receive him as you would receive me.	17 Dunque se tu tieni me per intrinseco, accoglilo come me stesso.
18 If he has wronged you at all, or owes you anything, charge that to my account.	18 E se ti ha fatto torto o ti deve ancor qualcosa, questo mettilo a mio conto.
19 I, Paul, write this with my own hand, I will repay it--to say nothing of your owing me even your own self.	19 Io Paolo ho scritto di mio pugno il «pagherò», per non dirti che tu sei debitore a me di te stesso.
20 Yes, brother, I want some benefit from you in the Lord. Refresh my heart in Christ.	20 Sì, fratello, possa io ricavare un utile da te nel Signore, dà questo sollievo al mio cuore in Cristo.
21 Confident of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I say.	21 Ti ho scritto fiducioso nella tua obbedienza, sapendo che tu farai anche di più di quel che dico.
22 At the same time, prepare a guest room for me, for I am hoping through your prayers to be granted to you.	22 E al tempo stesso preparami l'ospitalità, perchè spero che per le vostre preghiere vi sarò ridonato.
