1 Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to further the faith of God's elect and their knowledge of the truth which accords with godliness,	1 Carta de Pablo, servidor de Dios y Apóstol de Jesucristo para conducir a los elegidos de Dios a la fe y al conocimiento de la verdadera piedad,
2 in hope of eternal life which God, who never lies, promised ages ago	2 con la esperanza de la Vida eterna. Esta Vida ha sido prometida antes de todos los siglos por el Dios que no miente,
3 and at the proper time manifested in his word through the preaching with which I have been entrusted by command of God our Savior; To Titus, my true child in a common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.	3 y a su debido tiempo, él manifestó su Palabra, mediante la proclamación de un mensaje que me fue confiado por mandato de Dios, nuestro Salvador.
4 .	4 A Tito, mi verdadero hijo en nuestra fe común, le deseo la gracia y la paz que proceden de Dios, el Padre, y de Cristo Jesús, nuestro Salvador.
5 This is why I left you in Crete, that you might amend what was defective, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you,	5 Te he dejado en Creta, para que terminaras de organizarlo todo y establecieras presbíteros en cada ciudad de acuerdo con mis instrucciones.
6 if any man is blameless, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of being profligate or insubordinate.	6 Todos ellos deben ser irreprochables, no haberse casado sino una sola vez y tener hijos creyentes, a los que no se pueda acusar de mala conducta o rebeldía.
7 For a bishop, as God's steward, must be blameless; he must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain,	7 Porque el que preside la comunidad, en su calidad de administrador de Dios, tiene que ser irreprochable. No debe ser arrogante, ni colérico, ni bebedor, ni pendenciero, ni ávido de ganancias deshonestas,
8 but hospitable, a lover of goodness, master of himself, upright, holy, and self-controlled;	8 sino hospitalario, amigo de hacer el bien, moderado, justo, piadoso, dueño de sí.
9 he must hold firm to the sure word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to confute those who contradict it.	9 También debe estar firmemente adherido a la enseñanza cierta, la que está conforme a la norma de la fe, para ser capaz de exhortar en la sana doctrina y refutar a los que la contradicen.
10 For there are many insubordinate men, empty talkers and deceivers, especially the circumcision party;	10 Son muchos, en efecto, los espíritus rebeldes, los charlatanes y seductores, sobre todo, entre los circuncisos.
11 they must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for base gain what they have no right to teach.	11 A esos es necesario taparles la boca, porque trastornan a familias enteras, enseñando lo que no se debe por una vil ganancia.
12 One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, "Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons."	12 Uno de ellos, su propio profeta, ha dicho: «Cretenses, eternos mentirosos, animales perversos, glotones y perezosos».
13 This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith,	13 Y esta afirmación es verdadera. Por eso, repréndelos severamente para que permanezcan íntegros en la fe,
14 instead of giving heed to Jewish myths or to commands of men who reject the truth.	14 en lugar de dar crédito a las fábulas judías y a los preceptos de personas que dan la espalda a la verdad.
15 To the pure all things are pure, but to the corrupt and unbelieving nothing is pure; their very minds and consciences are corrupted.	15 Todo es puro para los puros. En cambio, para los que están contaminados y para los incrédulos, nada es puro. Su espíritu y su conciencia están manchados.
16 They profess to know God, but they deny him by their deeds; they are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good deed.	16 Ellos hacen profesión de conocer a Dios, pero con sus actos, lo niegan: son personas abominables, rebeldes, incapaces de cualquier obra buena.
