Joshua 23

1 A long time afterward, when the LORD had given rest to Israel from all their enemies round about, and Joshua was old and well advanced in years,	1 E passato molto grande tempo, poi che Iddio avea dato pace ad Israel, sottomesse loro tutto intorno tutte le nazioni, e Iosuè essendo d' antico tempo e di lunga vecchiezza (e di lunga etade, poi che ebbe divisa la terra ai figliuoli d' Israel secondo che egli avea comandato);
2 Joshua summoned all Israel, their elders and heads, their judges and officers, and said to them, "I am now old and well advanced in years;	2 chiamò Iosuè tutto quanto il popolo d' Israel (e' più nobili) e' maggiori e' principi e' duchi e' maestri, e sì disse loro; io son invecchiato, e sì sono di grande e di lunga etade.
3 and you have seen all that the LORD your God has done to all these nations for your sake, for it is the LORD your God who has fought for you.	3 Voi vedete tutte le cose le quali ha fatte Iddio Signore vostro a tutte le nazioni dintorno, e sì come combatteo per voi;
4 Behold, I have allotted to you as an inheritance for your tribes those nations that remain, along with all the nations that I have already cut off, from the Jordan to the Great Sea in the west.	4 e ora come ancora divise per sorte tutta la terra, della parte dell' oriente del (fiume) Giordano insino al mare maggiore, e molte genti ancora ci sono rimase e nazioni;
5 The LORD your God will push them back before you, and drive them out of your sight; and you shall possess their land, as the LORD your God promised you.	5 le quali Iddio vostro Signore atterrerà (e ucciderà), e sì le caccerà dinanzi dalla faccia vostra; e sì possederete la terra loro, siccome promise.
6 Therefore be very steadfast to keep and do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, turning aside from it neither to the right hand nor to the left,	6 Pur tanto istate forti, che vi confortiate; e siate solleciti che voi guardiate tutte quelle cose le quali sono scritte nel volume e nella legge di Moisè, e non vi partiate da loro, nè dalla mano ritta nè dalla manca;
7 that you may not be mixed with these nations left here among you, or make mention of the names of their gods, or swear by them, or serve them, or bow down yourselves to them,	7 acciò che quando sarete entrati a quelle genti, che debbono essere (e istare) tra voi, [non] giuriate nel nome de' loro Iddii e serviate loro e sì li adoriate.
8 but cleave to the LORD your God as you have done to this day.	8 Ma fate che vi accostiate a Dio vostro Signore, si come avete fatto insino al dì d'oggi.
9 For the LORD has driven out before you great and strong nations; and as for you, no man has been able to withstand you to this day.	9 E allora vi leverà, dinanzi da voi, molte genti e grandi e fortissime; e non vi potrà contrastare persona veruna.
10 One man of you puts to flight a thousand, since it is the LORD your God who fights for you, as he promised you.	10 Uno di voi perseguiterà (e caccerà) mille dei vostri nemici; imperò che Iddio vostro Signore sì combatterà per voi, come promise;
11 Take good heed to yourselves, therefore, to love the LORD your God.	11 pur che guardiate diligentemente, che voi amiate Dio vostro Signore.
12 For if you turn back, and join the remnant of these nations left here among you, and make marriages with them, so that you marry their women and they yours,	12 Ma se voi pure vorrete accostarvi agli errori di queste genti le quali abitano tra voi, e mescolare con loro i vostri costumi, e fare parentado, e pigliare amistadi (istrette);
13 know assuredly that the LORD your God will not continue to drive out these nations before you; but they shall be a snare and a trap for you, a scourge on your sides, and thorns in your eyes, till you perish from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you.	13 insino ad ora sappiate che Iddio vostro Signore non le ispegnerà dinanzi dalla vostra faccia, ma sonvi e saranno iscandalo e pericolo di morte ed in lacciuolo e in offesa del vostro costato, e uno palo ne' vostri occhi, insino a tanto che vi tolga e caccivi di questa terra ottima la quale vi diede.
14 "And now I am about to go the way of all the earth, and you know in your hearts and souls, all of you, that not one thing has failed of all the good things which the LORD your God promised concerning you; all have come to pass for you, not one of them has failed.	14 Ecco che io anderò per quella via per la quale vanno tutti gli uomini del mondo (cioè della morte); e voi conoscerete con tutto l'animo vostro, che di tutte le parole, le quali ci promise Iddio Signore, una parola non è stata in fallo.
15 But just as all the good things which the LORD your God promised concerning you have been fulfilled for you, so the LORD will bring upon you all the evil things, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you,	15 Adunque com' egli hae adempiuto con l'opere (e con fatti) tutto quello che vi promise, e tutte le cose vi sono venute prospere e bene, così vi farà venire addosso tutte quelle cose delle quali v'ha minacciato (di fare), insino che vi tragga e ispenga di questa terra ottima la quale vi diede;
16 if you transgress the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them. Then the anger of the LORD will be kindled against you, and you shall perish quickly from off the good land which he has given to you."	16 perchè voi avrete trapassato il patto (e il legamento) di Dio vostro Signore, il quale fece e compuose con voi, [e per] che avrete servito agli dii altrui e avretegli adorati: tosto e subitamente verrà sopra voi (l'ira ed) il furore di Dio Signore, e sarete cacciati fuori di questa terra ottima la quale vi diede egli.
