Joshua 23

1 A long time afterward, when the LORD had given rest to Israel from all their enemies round about, and Joshua was old and well advanced in years,	1 ORA, lungo tempo appresso che il Signore ebbe dato riposo a Israele da tutti i suoi nemici d’ogn’intorno, Giosuè, essendo vecchio ed attempato,
2 Joshua summoned all Israel, their elders and heads, their judges and officers, and said to them, "I am now old and well advanced in years;	2 chiamò tutto Israele, gli Anziani, e i Capi, e i Giudici, e gli Ufficiali di esso, e disse loro: Io sono omai vecchio ed attempato;
3 and you have seen all that the LORD your God has done to all these nations for your sake, for it is the LORD your God who has fought for you.	3 e voi avete veduto tutto ciò che il Signore Iddio vostro ha fatto a tutte queste genti per cagion vostra; conciossiachè il Signore Iddio vostro sia quel che ha combattuto per voi.
4 Behold, I have allotted to you as an inheritance for your tribes those nations that remain, along with all the nations that I have already cut off, from the Jordan to the Great Sea in the west.	4 Ecco, io vi ho spartito a sorte, per eredità, secondo le vostre tribù, il paese di queste genti che restano, insieme col paese di tutte quelle che io ho sterminate, cioè dal Giordano, infino al mar grande, verso il Ponente.
5 The LORD your God will push them back before you, and drive them out of your sight; and you shall possess their land, as the LORD your God promised you.	5 E il Signore Iddio vostro disperderà quelle dal vostro cospetto, e le scaccerà d’innanzi a voi; e voi possederete il lor paese, come il Signore Iddio vostro ve ne ha parlato.
6 Therefore be very steadfast to keep and do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, turning aside from it neither to the right hand nor to the left,	6 Perciò, fortificatevi vie più, per osservare, e per fare tutto quello che è scritto nel Libro della Legge di Mosè; acciocchè non ve ne rivolgiate nè a destra nè a sinistra;
7 that you may not be mixed with these nations left here among you, or make mention of the names of their gods, or swear by them, or serve them, or bow down yourselves to them,	7 e non entriate da queste genti che restano appresso di voi, e non ricordiate il nome de’ loro dii, e non li usiate in giuramenti, e non serviate loro, e non li adoriate.
8 but cleave to the LORD your God as you have done to this day.	8 Anzi vi atteniate al Signore Iddio vostro, come avete fatto infino ad oggi.
9 For the LORD has driven out before you great and strong nations; and as for you, no man has been able to withstand you to this day.	9 Onde il Signore ha cacciate dal cospetto vostro delle nazioni grandi e potenti; e niuno è potuto starvi a fronte fino ad oggi.
10 One man of you puts to flight a thousand, since it is the LORD your God who fights for you, as he promised you.	10 Un solo uomo d’infra voi ne perseguiterà mille; perciocchè il Signore Iddio vostro è quel che combatte per voi; come egli ve ne ha parlato
11 Take good heed to yourselves, therefore, to love the LORD your God.	11 Prendetevi adunque diligentemente guardia, sopra le anime vostre, di amare il Signore Iddio vostro.
12 For if you turn back, and join the remnant of these nations left here among you, and make marriages with them, so that you marry their women and they yours,	12 Perciocchè, se pur voi vi rivoltate, e vi congiungete col rimanente di queste genti, che son rimaste appresso di voi, e v’imparentate con loro, ed entrate da loro, ed esse entrano da voi,
13 know assuredly that the LORD your God will not continue to drive out these nations before you; but they shall be a snare and a trap for you, a scourge on your sides, and thorns in your eyes, till you perish from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you.	13 sappiate di certo che il Signore Iddio vostro non continuerà di scacciar queste genti d’innanzi a voi; anzi esse vi saranno per laccio, ed intoppo, e flagello a’ fianchi, e spine agli occhi, finchè periate d’in su questa buona terra, che il Signore Iddio vostro vi ha data.
14 "And now I am about to go the way of all the earth, and you know in your hearts and souls, all of you, that not one thing has failed of all the good things which the LORD your God promised concerning you; all have come to pass for you, not one of them has failed.	14 Or ecco, io me ne vo oggi per la via di tutta la terra; riconoscete adunque con tutto il cuor vostro, e con tutta l’anima vostra, che non pure una di tutte le buone parole che il Signore Iddio vostro vi avea dette, è caduta in terra; ogni cosa vi è avvenuta; non ne è caduta in terra una sola parola.
15 But just as all the good things which the LORD your God promised concerning you have been fulfilled for you, so the LORD will bring upon you all the evil things, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you,	15 Ma egli avverrà che, come ogni buona parola che il Signore Iddio vostro vi avea detta, vi è avvenuta, così il Signore farà venir sopra voi ogni malvagia parola, finchè vi abbia sterminati d’in su questa buona terra, la quale il Signore Iddio vostro vi ha data;
16 if you transgress the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them. Then the anger of the LORD will be kindled against you, and you shall perish quickly from off the good land which he has given to you."	16 se voi trasgredite il patto del Signore Iddio vostro, il quale egli vi ha comandato, e andate a servire ad altri dii, e li adorate. E l’ira del Signore si accenderà contro a voi, e perirete subitamente d’in su questa buona terra, la quale egli vi ha data
