Joshua 11

1 When Jabin king of Hazor heard of this, he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph,	1 Le quali cose avendo udito Jabin re di Asor, mandò ambasciatori a Jobab re di Madon, e al re di Semeron, e al re di Achsaph:
2 and to the kings who were in the northern hill country, and in the Arabah south of Chinneroth, and in the lowland, and in Naphoth-dor on the west,	2 E anche a' re di tramontana, che abitavano su' monti, e nel piano verso il lato meridionale di Ceneroth, e a quelli delle campagne, e delle regioni di Dor presso al mare:
3 to the Canaanites in the east and the west, the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, and the Jebusites in the hill country, and the Hivites under Hermon in the land of Mizpah.	3 E a' Chananei di oriente, e di occidente, e agli Amorrhei, e agli Hethei, e a' Ferezei e alli Jebusei delle montagne; e parimente agli Hevei abitanti alle falde dell'Hermon nella terra di Maspha.
4 And they came out, with all their troops, a great host, in number like the sand that is upon the seashore, with very many horses and chariots.	4 E si mossero tutti colle loro schiere in numero grande oltre modo, come l’arena che è sul lido del mare: i cavalli ancora, e i cocchi erano in moltitudine immensa:
5 And all these kings joined their forces, and came and encamped together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel.	5 E si raunarono tutti insieme questi re alle acque di Merom per combattere con Israele.
6 And the LORD said to Joshua, "Do not be afraid of them, for tomorrow at this time I will give over all of them, slain, to Israel; you shall hamstring their horses, and burn their chariots with fire."	6 E il Signore disse a Giosuè: Non li temere: imperocché domane in questa stessa ora io darò tutti costoro ad essere trafitti sugli occhi d'Israele: tu taglierai i garetti a' loro cavalli e darai alle fiamme i loro cocchi.
7 So Joshua came suddenly upon them with all his people of war, by the waters of Merom, and fell upon them.	7 E Giosuè con tutto l'esercito andò subitamente contro di essi alle acque di Merom, e gli assalirono:
8 And the LORD gave them into the hand of Israel, who smote them and chased them as far as Great Sidon and Misrephoth-maim, and eastward as far as the valley of Mizpeh; and they smote them, until they left none remaining.	8 E il Signore gli abbandonò nelle mani d'Israele; e furono sconfitti, e inseguiti fino a Sidone la grande, e fino alle acque di Maserephoth, e al campo di Masphe che è verso oriente. In tal guisa gli sconfisse, che non lasciò anima viva:
9 And Joshua did to them as the LORD bade him; he hamstrung their horses, and burned their chariots with fire.	9 E fece come gli aveva ordinato il Signore: tagliò i garetti a' loro cavalli, e diede i cocchi alle fiamme.
10 And Joshua turned back at that time, and took Hazor, and smote its king with the sword; for Hazor formerly was the head of all those kingdoms.	10 E data subito volta indietro prese Asor, e uccise il suo re: imperocché anticamente Asor avea il principato sopra tutti que' regni.
11 And they put to the sword all who were in it, utterly destroying them; there was none left that breathed, and he burned Hazor with fire.	11 E uccise tutta la gente, che vi era dentro: non vi lasciò anima viva: ma devastò ogni cosa fino all'ultimo sterminio, e incendiò la stessa città.
12 And all the cities of those kings, and all their kings, Joshua took, and smote them with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them, as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded.	12 E prese tutte le vicine città, e i loro re, e gli uccise, e distrusse, come aveva ordinato a lui Mosè servo del Signore.
13 But none of the cities that stood on mounds did Israel burn, except Hazor only; that Joshua burned.	13 Eccettuate le città poste sulle colline, e in luoghi elevati, tutte le altre Israele le abbruciò. Sola Asor città fortissima fu incendiata.
14 And all the spoil of these cities and the cattle, the people of Israel took for their booty; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them, and they did not leave any that breathed.	14 E tutta la preda di queste città, e i bestiami se gli spartirono tra di loro i figliuoli d'Israele, dopo averne uccisa la gente.
15 As the LORD had commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua, and so Joshua did; he left nothing undone of all that the LORD had commanded Moses.	15 Come il Signore aveva ordinato a Mosè suo servo, cosi Mosè ordinò a Giosuè, e questi eseguì il tutto: non trascurò nè pur un jota di tutti quanti gli ordini intimati dal Signore a Mosè.
16 So Joshua took all that land, the hill country and all the Negeb and all the land of Goshen and the lowland and the Arabah and the hill country of Israel and its lowland	16 Giosuè adunque si fece padrone di tutto il paese della montagna e del mezzodì, e della terra di Gosen, e della pianura, e della parte occidentale, e del monte d'Israele, e delle sue pianure:
17 from Mount Halak, that rises toward Seir, as far as Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon below Mount Hermon. And he took all their kings, and smote them, and put them to death.	17 E della parte del monte che s'innalza verso Seir fino a Baalgad lungo la pianura del Libano sotto il monte Hermon. Prese tutti que' re, gli sconfisse, e gli uccise.
18 Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.	18 Molto tempo durò la guerra che ebbe Giosuè con questi regi.
19 There was not a city that made peace with the people of Israel, except the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon; they took all in battle.	19 Non vi fu città che si arrendesse a’ figliuoli d'Israele, eccettuati gli Hevei abitatori di Gabaon: tutte le preser per forza.
20 For it was the LORD's doing to harden their hearts that they should come against Israel in battle, in order that they should be utterly destroyed, and should receive no mercy but be exterminated, as the LORD commanded Moses.	20 Imperocché sentenza del Signore era stata che s'indurassero i cuori di coloro, e facesser guerra contro Israele, e andassero in rovina, e non meritassero alcuna pietà, e perissero, come aveva ordinato il Signore a Mosè.
21 And Joshua came at that time, and wiped out the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel; Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities.	21 In quel tempo Giosuè si mosse, e mise a fil di spada gli Enacimi delle montagne, e gli sterminò da Ebron, e da Dabir, e da Anab, e da tutta la montagna di Giuda, e d'Israele, e ruinò le loro città.
22 There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the people of Israel; only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, did some remain.	22 Non lasciò anima della stirpe degli Enacimi nella terra de' figliuoli d'Israele, eccettuate le città di Gaza, e di Geth, e di Azoto, nelle quali sole ve ne rimase.
23 So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD had spoken to Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal allotments. And the land had rest from war.	23 Giosuè adunque s'impadronì di tutto quel paese, come il Signore avea detto a Mosè, e ne diede il possesso ai figliuoli d'Israele parte per parte, e tribù per tribù: e la terra ebbe riposo dalle guerre.
