1 Thessalonians 2

1 For you yourselves know, brethren, that our visit to you was not in vain;	1 - Voi ben sapete, o fratelli, che la nostra venuta non è stata vana,
2 but though we had already suffered and been shamefully treated at Philippi, as you know, we had courage in our God to declare to you the gospel of God in the face of great opposition.	2 ma avendo patito e ricevuto oltraggi, (come sapete) a Filippi, pure abbiamo preso coraggio nel nostro Dio di parlare il Vangelo di Dio pur con tanta preoccupazione.
3 For our appeal does not spring from error or uncleanness, nor is it made with guile;	3 Poichè l'esortazione nostra, non da errore procede, nè da idee men pure, nè si aggira in inganni,
4 but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please men, but to please God who tests our hearts.	4 ma siccome fummo approvati da Dio perchè a noi si affidasse il Vangelo, così ne parliamo, non per piacere agli uomini ma a Dio che scruta i nostri cuori.
5 For we never used either words of flattery, as you know, or a cloak for greed, as God is witness;	5 Poichè, come sapete, non mai fu il nostro discorso di adulazione, nè pretesto di guadagno, Dio ci è testimone,
6 nor did we seek glory from men, whether from you or from others, though we might have made demands as apostles of Christ.	6 nè cercavamo gloria fra gli uomini nè da voi, nè da altri,
7 But we were gentle among you, like a nurse taking care of her children.	7 pur potendo essere di un qualche peso come apostoli di Cristo, ma ci siamo fatti piccoli in mezzo a voi, come una nutrice, che carezzi le proprie creature;
8 So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us.	8 così dunque nel nostro tenero amore per voi eravamo disposti a darvi non solo il Vangelo di Dio, ma anche la nostra stessa vita perchè eravate diventati per noi oggetto di grande amore.
9 For you remember our labor and toil, brethren; we worked night and day, that we might not burden any of you, while we preached to you the gospel of God.	9 Voi ricordate, o fratelli, le nostre fatiche e angustie; notte e giorno lavorando per non esser di peso a nessuno di voi, abbiamo annunziato tra voi il Vangelo di Dio.
10 You are witnesses, and God also, how holy and righteous and blameless was our behavior to you believers;	10 Siete voi testimoni, e lo è pure Iddio, come santamente e giustamente e irreprensibilmente ci siam diportati con voi credenti;
11 for you know how, like a father with his children, we exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and charged you	11 e sapete altresì che, (come un padre fa' co' suoi figliuoli),
12 to lead a life worthy of God, who calls you into his own kingdom and glory.	12 noi esortavamo ciascuno di voi, confortando e anche scongiurando, a tenere una condotta degna di Dio, che vi chiamò al suo regno e alla sua gloria.
13 And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers.	13 Ed è per questo che noi ringraziamo continuamente Iddio, che voi accogliendo la parola di Dio da noi udita, l'avete accettata, non come parola di uomini, ma (com'è davvero), parola di Dio, la quale mostra la sua efficacia in voi che credete.
14 For you, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God in Christ Jesus which are in Judea; for you suffered the same things from your own countrymen as they did from the Jews,	14 Giacchè voi, o fratelli, siete diventati imitatori delle chiese di Dio che sono nella Giudea, in Cristo Gesù; e difatti avete sofferto anche voi le stesse cose da parte dei vostri connazionali, come quelli dai Giudei,
15 who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drove us out, and displease God and oppose all men	15 cioè da coloro che anche hanno ucciso il Signore Gesù e i profeti, e hanno perseguitato noi, e che non piacciono a Dio, e sono contrari a tutti gli uomini,
16 by hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles that they may be saved--so as always to fill up the measure of their sins. But God's wrath has come upon them at last!	16 in quanto impediscono noi di parlare alle Genti onde siano salvate, talmente, che essi colmano continuamente [la misura dei] loro peccati. Ma è giunta su loro l'ira [di Dio] sino in fondo.
17 But since we were bereft of you, brethren, for a short time, in person not in heart, we endeavored the more eagerly and with great desire to see you face to face;	17 E noi, o fratelli, strappati da voi per un po' di tempo, separati d'aspetto ma non di cuore, tanto maggiormente, pel gran desiderio, ci siam proposti di rivedervi;
18 because we wanted to come to you--I, Paul, again and again--but Satan hindered us.	18 per ciò avevamo disposto di venir da voi, almeno io Paolo, e una e due volte; ma Satana c'impedì.
19 For what is our hope or joy or crown of boasting before our Lord Jesus at his coming? Is it not you?	19 Giacchè qual sarà la nostra speranza o gioia o corona di gloria davanti al Signor nostro Gesù nel momento della sua venuta, se non sarete anche voi?
20 For you are our glory and joy.	20 Sì, voi siete la gloria nostra e la nostra gioia.
