1 Thessalonians 2

1 For you yourselves know, brethren, that our visit to you was not in vain;	1 Imperocchè voi stessi sapete, fratelli, come non senza frutto fa il nostro venir tra di voi:
2 but though we had already suffered and been shamefully treated at Philippi, as you know, we had courage in our God to declare to you the gospel of God in the face of great opposition.	2 Ma avendo prima sofferti patimenti, e strapazzi (come sapete) in Filippi, avemmo fidanza nel nostro Dio di parlare a voi del vangelo di Dio tra molti contrasti.
3 For our appeal does not spring from error or uncleanness, nor is it made with guile;	3 Conciossiachè la nostra esortazione non (fu) a favor dell'errore, né della malizia, né della frode,
4 but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please men, but to please God who tests our hearts.	4 Ma nello stesso modo, che fummo da Dio approvati, perché confidato a noi fosse il vangelo: così parliamo, non come per piacere agli uomini, ma a Dio, che disamina i nostri cuori.
5 For we never used either words of flattery, as you know, or a cloak for greed, as God is witness;	5 Imperocché il nostro linguaggio non fu giammai di adulazione, come sapete: né pretesto all'avarizia: Dio è testimone:
6 nor did we seek glory from men, whether from you or from others, though we might have made demands as apostles of Christ.	6 Né cercammo gloria dagli uomini, né da voi, né da altri.
7 But we were gentle among you, like a nurse taking care of her children.	7 Potendo noi essere a voi di peso come Apostoli di Cristo: ci facemmo piccolini tra di voi come nutrice, che al sen si stringa i suoi figli.
8 So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us.	8 Così noi amandovi teneramente, bramavamo di dare a voi non solo il vangelo di Dio, ma le stesse anime nostre: perché siete divenuti carissimi a noi.
9 For you remember our labor and toil, brethren; we worked night and day, that we might not burden any of you, while we preached to you the gospel of God.	9 Imperocché voi vi ricordate, o fratelli, delle nostre fatiche, e stanchezze: lavorando dì, e notte, per non dar in comodo a veruno di voi, abbiam predicato tra voi il vangelo di Dio.
10 You are witnesses, and God also, how holy and righteous and blameless was our behavior to you believers;	10 Testimoni siete voi, e Dio, quanto santamente, e giustamente, e senza doglianza ci diportammo con voi, che avete creduto:
11 for you know how, like a father with his children, we exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and charged you	11 Siccome sapete, in qual modo ciascheduno di voi (come fa un padre co' suoi figliuoli)
12 to lead a life worthy of God, who calls you into his own kingdom and glory.	12 Vi andavano pregando, e confortando, e scongiurando a camminare in maniera degna di Dio, il quale vi ha chiamati al suo regno, e alla gloria.
13 And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers.	13 Per questo ancora noi rendiamo incessantemente grazie al Signore, perché avendo voi ricevuto la parola di Dio, che udiste da noi, l'abbracciaste, non come parola umana, ma (qual ella è veramente) parola di Dio, la quale eziandio agisce in voi, che avete creduto:
14 For you, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God in Christ Jesus which are in Judea; for you suffered the same things from your own countrymen as they did from the Jews,	14 Imperocché voi, fratelli, siete stati imitatori delle Chiese di Dio, che sono per la Giudea in Cristo Gesù: perché le medesime cose avete sofferte anche voi da' vostri nazionali come anche quegli dai Giudei:
15 who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drove us out, and displease God and oppose all men	15 I quali ed uccisero il Signore Gesù, e i profeti, e noi hanno perseguitato, e non piacciono a Dio, e sono avversi a tutti gli uomini:
16 by hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles that they may be saved--so as always to fill up the measure of their sins. But God's wrath has come upon them at last!	16 I quali proibiscono a noi il parlare alle genti, perché si salvino, per andar sempre compiendo la misura de' loro peccati; imperocché è venuta sopra di essi l'ira di Dio sino alla fine.
17 But since we were bereft of you, brethren, for a short time, in person not in heart, we endeavored the more eagerly and with great desire to see you face to face;	17 Ma noi, o fratelli, rimasi senza di voi per breve tempo, quanto alla vista, non quanto al cuore, tanto maggiormente ci davamo fretta di vedere la faccia vostra pel gran desiderio:
18 because we wanted to come to you--I, Paul, again and again--but Satan hindered us.	18 Imperocché volemmo venir da voi (almen io Paolo) e una, e due volte, ma Satana ci frappose impedimento.
19 For what is our hope or joy or crown of boasting before our Lord Jesus at his coming? Is it not you?	19 Imperocché qual è la nostra speranza, o il gaudio, o la corona di gloria? Non lo siete voi forse dinanzi al Signor nostro Gesù Cristo, per quando egli verrà?
20 For you are our glory and joy.	20 Certamente voi siete nostra gloria, e (nostro) gaudio.
