2 Corinthians 8

1 We want you to know, brethren, about the grace of God which has been shown in the churches of Macedonia,	1 Os damos a conocer, hermanos, la gracia que Dios ha otorgado a las Iglesias de Macedonia.
2 for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of liberality on their part.	2 Pues, aunque probados por muchas tribulaciones, su rebosante alegría y su extrema pobreza han desbordado en tesoros de generosidad.
3 For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own free will,	3 Porque atestiguo que según sus posibilidades, y aun sobre sus posibilidades, espontáneamente
4 begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints--	4 nos pedían con mucha insistencia la gracia de participar en el servicio en bien de los santos.
5 and this, not as we expected, but first they gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God.	5 Y superando nuestras esperanzas, se entregaron a sí mismos, primero al Señor, y luego a nosotros, por voluntad de Dios,
6 Accordingly we have urged Titus that as he had already made a beginning, he should also complete among you this gracious work.	6 de forma que rogamos a Tito llevara a buen término entre vosotros esta generosidad, tal como la había comenzado.
7 Now as you excel in everything--in faith, in utterance, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in your love for us--see that you excel in this gracious work also.	7 Y del mismo modo que sobresalís en todo: en fe, en palabra, en ciencia, en todo interés y en la caridad que os hemos comunicado, sobresalid también en esta generosidad.
8 I say this not as a command, but to prove by the earnestness of others that your love also is genuine.	8 No es una orden; sólo quiero, mediante el interés por los demás, probar la sinceridad de vuestra caridad.
9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich.	9 Pues conocéis la generosidad de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, el cual, siendo rico, por vosotros se hizo pobre a fin de que os enriquecierais con su pobreza.
10 And in this matter I give my advice: it is best for you now to complete what a year ago you began not only to do but to desire,	10 Os doy un consejo sobre el particular: que es lo que os conviene a vosotros, ya que desde el año pasado habéis sido los primeros no sólo en hacer la colecta, sino también en tomar la iniciativa.
11 so that your readiness in desiring it may be matched by your completing it out of what you have.	11 Ahora llevadla también a cabo, de forma que a vuestra prontitud en la iniciativa corresponda la realización conforme a vuestras posibilidades.
12 For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a man has, not according to what he has not.	12 Pues si hay prontitud de voluntad es bien acogida con lo que se tenga, y no importa si nada se tiene.
13 I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened,	13 No que paséis apuros para que otros tengan abundancia, sino con igualdad.
14 but that as a matter of equality your abundance at the present time should supply their want, so that their abundance may supply your want, that there may be equality.	14 Al presente, vuestra abundancia remedia su necesidad, para que la abundancia de ellos pueda remediar también vuestra necesidad y reine la igualdad,
15 As it is written, "He who gathered much had nothing over, and he who gathered little had no lack."	15 como dice la Escritura: El que mucho recogió, no tuvo de más; y el que poco, no tuvo de menos.
16 But thanks be to God who puts the same earnest care for you into the heart of Titus.	16 ¡Gracias sean dadas a Dios, que pone en el corazón de Tito el mismo interés por vosotros!,
17 For he not only accepted our appeal, but being himself very earnest he is going to you of his own accord.	17 pues aceptó mi ruego y, más solícito que nunca, por propia iniciativa fue donde vosotros.
18 With him we are sending the brother who is famous among all the churches for his preaching of the gospel;	18 Con él enviamos al hermano, cuyo renombre a causa del Evangelio se ha extendido por todas las Iglesias.
19 and not only that, but he has been appointed by the churches to travel with us in this gracious work which we are carrying on, for the glory of the Lord and to show our good will.	19 Y no sólo eso, sino que fue designado por elección de todas las Iglesias como compañero nuestro de viaje en esta generosidad, en que servimos nosotros para la gloria del mismo Señor, por iniciativa nuestra.
20 We intend that no one should blame us about this liberal gift which we are administering,	20 Así evitaremos todo motivo de reproche por esta abundante suma que administramos;
21 for we aim at what is honorable not only in the Lord's sight but also in the sight of men.	21 pues procuramos el bien no sólo ante el Señor sino también ante los hombres.
22 And with them we are sending our brother whom we have often tested and found earnest in many matters, but who is now more earnest than ever because of his great confidence in you.	22 Con ellos os enviamos también al hermano nuestro, cuya solicitud tenemos ya comprobada muchas veces y de muchas maneras; solicitud aún mayor ahora por la gran confianza que tiene en vosotros.
23 As for Titus, he is my partner and fellow worker in your service; and as for our brethren, they are messengers of the churches, the glory of Christ.	23 En cuanto a Tito, es compañero y colaborador mío cerca de vosotros; en cuanto a los demás hermanos, son los delegados de las Iglesias: la gloria de Cristo.
24 So give proof, before the churches, of your love and of our boasting about you to these men.	24 Mostrad, pues, ante la faz de las Iglesias, vuestra caridad y la razón de nuestro orgullo respecto de vosotros.
