1 Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Mana-en a member of the court of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.	1 Az antióchiai egyházban több próféta és tanító is volt, köztük Barnabás és Simon, akit Nigernek neveztek, a cirenei Lúciusz, továbbá Manaén, Heródes negyedes fejedelem tejtestvére és Saul.

5 When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. And they had John to assist them.	5 Eljutottak Szalamiszba, és hirdették Isten igéjét a zsidók zsinagógáiban. János is a szolgálatukban volt.
6 When they had gone through the whole island as far as Paphos, they came upon a certain magician, a Jewish false prophet, named Bar-Jesus.	6 Amikor bejárták Páfoszig az egész szigetet, találtak egy Barjézus nevű zsidó férfit, aki varázsló és hamis próféta volt.
7 He was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence, who summoned Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God.	7 Szergiusz Paulusz prokonzullal, egy bölcs férfival volt, aki magához hívatta Barnabást és Sault, mert hallani kívánta Isten igéjét.
8 But Elymas the magician (for that is the meaning of his name) withstood them, seeking to turn away the proconsul from the faith.	8 Elimász azonban, a varázsló – a neve ugyanis ezt jelenti –, akadékoskodott, s igyekezett eltéríteni a helytartót a hittől.
9 But Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him	9 De Saul, akit Pálnak is neveznek, Szentlélekkel eltelve ránézett,
10 and said, "You son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, full of all deceit and villainy, will you not stop making crooked the straight paths of the Lord?	10 és így szólt: »Te minden csalárdsággal és álnoksággal teljes ördögfia, minden igazságosságnak ellensége, nem szűnsz meg az Úr egyenes útjait megrontani?
11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind and unable to see the sun for a time." Immediately mist and darkness fell upon him and he went about seeking people to lead him by the hand.	11 Íme, ezért az Úr keze most rajtad van, megvakulsz, s egy ideig nem látod a napvilágot.« Rögtön homály és sötétség szakadt rá, és körbe járva kereste, hogy valaki kezét nyújtsa neki.
12 Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had occurred, for he was astonished at the teaching of the Lord.	12 Erre a prokonzul hitt, mivel látta, hogy mi történt, és csodálkozott az Úr tanításán.
13 Now Paul and his company set sail from Paphos, and came to Perga in Pamphylia. And John left them and returned to Jerusalem;	13 Azután Pál, és akik vele voltak, elhajóztak Páfoszból, és a pamfíliai Pergébe jutottak. János azonban elvált tőlük és visszatért Jeruzsálembe.
14 but they passed on from Perga and came to Antioch of Pisidia. And on the sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down.	14 Ők pedig átmentek Pergén, s a pizídiai Antióchiába érkeztek. Szombaton bementek a zsinagógába és leültek.
15 After the reading of the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, "Brethren, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, say it."	15 A törvényből és a prófétákból való felolvasás után a zsinagóga elöljárói hozzájuk küldtek ezzel az üzenettel: »Férfiak, testvérek, ha van valami intelmetek a nép számára, mondjátok el!«
16 So Paul stood up, and motioning with his hand said: "Men of Israel, and you that fear God, listen.	16 Pál felemelkedett tehát, s a kezével csendet intve megszólalt: »Izraelita férfiak, és ti istenfélők, halljátok!
17 The God of this people Israel chose our fathers and made the people great during their stay in the land of Egypt, and with uplifted arm he led them out of it.	17 Izrael népének Istene kiválasztotta atyáinkat és naggyá tette a népet, amikor Egyiptom földjén jövevények voltak. Azután hatalmas karral kivezette őket onnan,
18 And for about forty years he bore with them in the wilderness.	18 és negyven esztendeig tűrte viselkedésüket a pusztában,
19 And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land as an inheritance, for about four hundred and fifty years.	19 majd Kánaán földjén hét népet elpusztított, és sorsolással felosztotta nekik azoknak a földjét ,
20 And after that he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet.	20 mintegy négyszázötven évre. Azután bírákat adott nekik Sámuel prófétáig.

24 Before his coming John had preached a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.	24 akinek eljövetele előtt János a bűnbánat keresztségét hirdette Izrael egész népének .
25 And as John was finishing his course, he said, 'What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. No, but after me one is coming, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.'	25 Mikor pedig János bevégezte pályafutását, azt mondta: ‘Nem az vagyok, akinek tartotok engem; íme, utánam jön, akinek a lábáról a saruit sem vagyok méltó megoldani.’
26 "Brethren, sons of the family of Abraham, and those among you that fear God, to us has been sent the message of this salvation.	26 Férfiak, testvérek! Ábrahám nemzetének fiai és a köztetek lévő istenfélők! Ennek az üdvösségnek az igéje hozzánk küldetett.
27 For those who live in Jerusalem and their rulers, because they did not recognize him nor understand the utterances of the prophets which are read every sabbath, fulfilled these by condemning him.	27 Mert Jeruzsálem lakói és a vezetőik nem ismerték el őt, hanem ítélkezésükkel beteljesítették a próféták szavait is, amelyeket minden szombaton felolvasnak.
28 Though they could charge him with nothing deserving death, yet they asked Pilate to have him killed.	28 Mert bár nem találtak benne semmi okot sem a halálra, a kivégzését kívánták Pilátustól.
29 And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a tomb.	29 Miután mindent végrehajtottak, ami meg volt írva róla, levették őt a fáról, és sírba helyezték.
30 But God raised him from the dead;	30 De Isten feltámasztotta őt a halálból,
31 and for many days he appeared to those who came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are now his witnesses to the people.	31 és több napon át megjelent azoknak, akik vele együtt jöttek fel Galileából Jeruzsálembe. Ezek tanúságot tesznek róla a mai napig a nép előtt.
32 And we bring you the good news that what God promised to the fathers,	32 Mi is az atyáknak tett ígéretet hirdetjük nektek,

35 Therefore he says also in another psalm, 'Thou wilt not let thy Holy One see corruption.'	35 Éppen ezért mondja másutt is: ‘Nem engeded, hogy Szented romlást lásson’.
36 For David, after he had served the counsel of God in his own generation, fell asleep, and was laid with his fathers, and saw corruption;	36 Dávid ugyanis, miután a maga idejében Isten akaratát szolgálta, elszenderült, atyái mellé tették, s meglátta a romlást.
37 but he whom God raised up saw no corruption.	37 De az, akit Isten a halálból feltámasztott, nem látott romlást.
38 Let it be known to you therefore, brethren, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you,	38 Vegyétek tehát tudomásul férfiak, testvérek, hogy őáltala hirdetjük nektek a bűnök bocsánatát, és hogy mindattól, amitől Mózes törvénye által meg nem igazulhattatok,
39 and by him every one that believes is freed from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses.	39 őáltala mindenki megigazul, aki hisz.
40 Beware, therefore, lest there come upon you what is said in the prophets:	40 Ügyeljetek azért, hogy be ne teljesedjen rajtatok, amit a próféta mondott:
41 'Behold, you scoffers, and wonder, and perish; for I do a deed in your days, a deed you will never believe, if one declares it to you.'"	41 ‘Lássátok, ti önteltek, csodálkozzatok és semmisüljetek meg, mert napjaitokban egy művet valósítok meg, olyan művet, amelyet el sem hinnétek, ha valaki mondaná nektek’«.
42 As they went out, the people begged that these things might be told them the next sabbath.	42 Amikor azután kimentek, kérlelték őket, hogy a következő szombaton is magyarázzák nekik ezeket a dolgokat.
43 And when the meeting of the synagogue broke up, many Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who spoke to them and urged them to continue in the grace of God.	43 Sőt, amikor a zsinagóga szétoszlott, a zsidók és az istenfélő jövevények közül sokan követték Pált és Barnabást, ők pedig biztatták és bátorították őket, hogy maradjanak meg Isten kegyelmében.
44 The next sabbath almost the whole city gathered together to hear the word of God.	44 A következő szombaton azután majdnem az egész város összegyűlt, hogy hallja Isten igéjét.
45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted what was spoken by Paul, and reviled him.	45 Mikor azonban a zsidók a sokaságot látták, elfogta őket a féltékenység, s káromlások között ellentmondtak annak, amit Pál mondott.
46 And Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, saying, "It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken first to you. Since you thrust it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.	46 Erre Pál és Barnabás egész bátran kijelentették: »Először nektek kellett hirdetnünk Isten igéjét, mivel azonban ti visszautasítjátok azt, s nem tartjátok magatokat méltóknak az örök életre, íme, a pogányokhoz fordulunk,
47 For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, 'I have set you to be a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the uttermost parts of the earth.'"	47 mert így parancsolta nekünk az Úr: ‘A pogányok világosságává tettelek téged, hogy szolgáld az üdvösséget a föld végső határáig’«.
48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of God; and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.	48 Mikor a pogányok meghallották ezt, megörültek, és magasztalták az Úr igéjét. Hittek is mindnyájan, akik az örök életre voltak rendelve.
49 And the word of the Lord spread throughout all the region.	49 Az Úr igéje pedig elterjedt az egész tartományban.
50 But the Jews incited the devout women of high standing and the leading men of the city, and stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their district.	50 A zsidók azonban felizgatták a vallásos és előkelő asszonyokat, s a város első embereit. Üldözést szítottak Pál és Barnabás ellen, és kiűzték őket határukból.
51 But they shook off the dust from their feet against them, and went to Iconium.	51 Ezek lerázták ellenük lábuk porát, és elmentek Ikóniumba.
52 And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.	52 A tanítványok pedig elteltek örömmel és a Szentlélekkel.
