Deuteronomy 25

Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition Biblia Sagrada
"If there is a dispute between men, and they come into court, and the judges decide between them, acquitting the innocent and condemning the guilty,1 Cuando dos hombres tengan un pleito, vayan a juicio y los juzguen, absolviendo al inocente y condenando al culpable,
then if the guilty man deserves to be beaten, the judge shall cause him to lie down and be beaten in his presence with a number of stripes in proportion to his offense.2 si el culpable merece una paliza, el juez lo hará tenderse en tierra, y en su presencia le darán los azotes que merece su delito.
Forty stripes may be given him, but not more; lest, if one should go on to beat him with more stripes than these, your brother be degraded in your sight.3 Pero solo le podrán dar hasta cuarenta y no más, no sea que, si se exceden en el número y la paliza resulte excesiva, tu hermano quede infamado a tus ojos.
"You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain.4 No le pondrás bozal al buey que trilla.
"If brothers dwell together, and one of them dies and has no son, the wife of the dead shall not be married outside the family to a stranger; her husband's brother shall go in to her, and take her as his wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother to her.5 Si dos hermanos viven juntos y uno de ellos muere sin tener hijos, la mujer del difunto no se casará con un extraño; su cuñado se casará con ella y cumplirá con ella su deber legal de cuñado:
And the first son whom she bears shall succeed to the name of his brother who is dead, that his name may not be blotted out of Israel.6 el primogénito que ella dé a luz, llevará el nombre del hermano difunto y así no se borrará su nombre de Israel.
And if the man does not wish to take his brother's wife, then his brother's wife shall go up to the gate to the elders, and say, 'My husband's brother refuses to perpetuate his brother's name in Israel; he will not perform the duty of a husband's brother to me.'7 Pero si el cuñado no quiere casarse con ella, la cuñada acudirá a la puerta, a los ancianos, y dirá: “Mi cuñado se niega a perpetuar el nombre de su hermano en Israel; no quiere cumplir su deber de cuñado”.
Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak to him: and if he persists, saying, 'I do not wish to take her,'8 Entonces los ancianos de aquella ciudad lo citarán y le hablarán. Pero si insiste diciendo: “No quiero desposarla”,
then his brother's wife shall go up to him in the presence of the elders, and pull his sandal off his foot, and spit in his face; and she shall answer and say, 'So shall it be done to the man who does not build up his brother's house.'9 su cuñada se acercará a él en presencia de los ancianos, le quitará la sandalia de su pie, le escupirá a la cara y le dirá: “Así se trata al hombre que no quiere edificar la casa de su hermano”.
And the name of his house shall be called in Israel, The house of him that had his sandal pulled off.10 Y en Israel se le llamará “La casa del descalzado”.
"When men fight with one another, and the wife of the one draws near to rescue her husband from the hand of him who is beating him, and puts out her hand and seizes him by the private parts,11 Si un hombre está riñendo con su hermano y se acerca la mujer de uno de ellos para librar a su marido de la mano del que lo golpea, y mete ella la mano y agarra al otro por sus partes,
then you shall cut off her hand; your eye shall have no pity.12 le cortarás la mano sin compasión.
"You shall not have in your bag two kinds of weights, a large and a small.13 No tendrás en tu bolsa pesas diferentes: más pesada y más ligera.
You shall not have in your house two kinds of measures, a large and a small.14 No tendrás en tu casa medidas diferentes: más grande y más pequeña.
A full and just weight you shall have, a full and just measure you shall have; that your days may be prolonged in the land which the LORD your God gives you.15 Tendrás pesas cabales y justas, tendrás medidas cabales y justas, para que vivas mucho tiempo en la tierra que el Señor, tu Dios, te da.
For all who do such things, all who act dishonestly, are an abomination to the LORD your God.16 Porque quien hace esto, quien comete injusticia, es una abominación para el Señor, tu Dios.
"Remember what Amalek did to you on the way as you came out of Egypt,17 Recuerda lo que te hizo Amalec en el camino, a tu salida de Egipto;
how he attacked you on the way, when you were faint and weary, and cut off at your rear all who lagged behind you; and he did not fear God.18 cómo te salió al paso en el camino cuando ibas agotado y extenuado y atacó por la espalda a todos los rezagados, sin temor de Dios.
Therefore when the LORD your God has given you rest from all your enemies round about, in the land which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance to possess, you shall blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; you shall not forget.19 Por eso, cuando el Señor, tu Dios, te conceda descanso de tus enemigos de alrededor, en la tierra que el Señor, tu Dios, te da en herencia para que la poseas, borrarás la memoria de Amalec bajo el cielo. No lo olvides.
