1 "At that time the LORD said to me, 'Hew two tables of stone like the first, and come up to me on the mountain, and make an ark of wood.	1 En ce temps-là Yahvé me dit: “Taille-toi deux tables de pierre comme les premières, et remonte vers moi sur la montagne. Puis tu te feras une arche de bois.
2 And I will write on the tables the words that were on the first tables which you broke, and you shall put them in the ark.'	2 J’écrirai sur ces tables les paroles qui étaient inscrites sur les premières tables que tu as brisées, et tu les mettras dans l’Arche.”
3 So I made an ark of acacia wood, and hewed two tables of stone like the first, and went up the mountain with the two tables in my hand.	3 J’ai donc fabriqué une arche en bois d’acacia et j’ai taillé deux tables de pierre comme les premières. Après quoi j’ai gravi la montagne, ayant en mains les deux tables.
4 And he wrote on the tables, as at the first writing, the ten commandments which the LORD had spoken to you on the mountain out of the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly; and the LORD gave them to me.	4 Yahvé écrivit alors sur les tables le même texte que sur les premières, c’est-à-dire les Dix Paroles que Yahvé vous avait dites sur la montagne, du milieu du feu, au jour de l’assemblée. Et il me les donna.
5 Then I turned and came down from the mountain, and put the tables in the ark which I had made; and there they are, as the LORD commanded me.	5 C’est ainsi que je suis redescendu de la montagne; j’ai placé les tables dans l’Arche que j’avais fabriquée, comme Yahvé l’avait ordonné, et elles y sont encore.
6 (The people of Israel journeyed from Be-eroth Bene-jaakan to Moserah. There Aaron died, and there he was buried; and his son Eleazar ministered as priest in his stead.	6 (Les Israélites partirent des puits des Béné-Yaakan pour Moséra. C’est là que mourut Aaron et qu’il fut enterré; Éléazar, son fils, lui succéda comme prêtre.
7 From there they journeyed to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land with brooks of water.	7 Ils partirent de là pour Goudgoda, et de Goudgoda ils allèrent à Yotbata, terre riche en eau.
8 At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister to him and to bless in his name, to this day.	8 Là Yahvé mit à part la tribu de Lévi pour porter l’Arche de l’Alliance et se tenir en sa présence: jusqu’à ce jour ils le servent et bénissent en son Nom.
9 Therefore Levi has no portion or inheritance with his brothers; the LORD is his inheritance, as the LORD your God said to him.)	9 C’est pourquoi Lévi n’a pas eu de part ni d’héritage avec ses frères, car Yahvé est son héritage comme Yahvé ton Dieu le lui a dit.)
10 "I stayed on the mountain, as at the first time, forty days and forty nights, and the LORD hearkened to me that time also; the LORD was unwilling to destroy you.	10 Je m’étais donc tenu sur la montagne durant 40 jours et 40 nuits et, cette fois encore, Yahvé m’avait écouté, il avait renoncé à te détruire.
11 And the LORD said to me, 'Arise, go on your journey at the head of the people, that they may go in and possess the land, which I swore to their fathers to give them.'	11 Alors Yahvé m’a dit: “Passe à la tête de ce peuple! qu’il entre et qu’il prenne possession du pays que j’ai juré à leurs pères de leur donner.”
12 "And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,	12 Et maintenant Israël, que te demande Yahvé ton Dieu? Tout simplement de craindre Yahvé ton Dieu, de marcher dans toutes ses voies, de l’aimer et de le servir de tout ton cœur et de toute ton âme.
13 and to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD, which I command you this day for your good?	13 Observe les commandements de Yahvé et les ordonnances que je te donne aujourd’hui, et tout ira bien pour toi.
14 Behold, to the LORD your God belong heaven and the heaven of heavens, the earth with all that is in it;	14 Les cieux, les cieux des cieux, la terre et tout ce qu’elle contient, appartiennent à Yahvé ton Dieu.
15 yet the LORD set his heart in love upon your fathers and chose their descendants after them, you above all peoples, as at this day.	15 Pourtant, ce n’est qu’à tes pères que Yahvé s’est attaché pour les aimer. Et après eux il vous a choisis, vous, leur descendance, de préférence à tous les peuples, comme vous le voyez aujourd’hui.
16 Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no longer stubborn.	16 Il vous faut donc une autre circoncision, la purification du cœur, et ne plus faire la forte tête.
17 For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the terrible God, who is not partial and takes no bribe.	17 Car Yahvé, votre Dieu, est le Dieu des dieux et le Seigneur des Seigneurs. Il est le Dieu grand, puissant et redoutable, qui ne fait pas de faveur et n’accepte pas de cadeau.
18 He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the sojourner, giving him food and clothing.	18 Il fait droit à l’orphelin et à la veuve, il aime l’étranger et lui donne le pain et le vêtement.
19 Love the sojourner therefore; for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.	19 Vous aimerez donc l’étranger, car vous-mêmes avez été des étrangers en Égypte.
20 You shall fear the LORD your God; you shall serve him and cleave to him, and by his name you shall swear.	20 Tu craindras Yahvé ton Dieu, tu le serviras, tu t’attacheras à lui et c’est par son Nom que tu jureras.
21 He is your praise; he is your God, who has done for you these great and terrible things which your eyes have seen.	21 C’est à lui qu’ira ta louange, car il est ton Dieu, qui a fait pour toi les choses grandes et redoutables que tes yeux ont vues.
22 Your fathers went down to Egypt seventy persons; and now the LORD your God has made you as the stars of heaven for multitude.	22 Quand tes pères sont descendus en Égypte, ils étaient 70, et maintenant Yahvé ton Dieu t’a rendu aussi nombreux que les étoiles des cieux.
