1 On a sabbath, while he was going through the grainfields, his disciples plucked and ate some heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands.1 Factum est autem in sabbato, cum transiret per sata, et velle bantdiscipuli eius spicas et manducabant confricantes manibus.
2 But some of the Pharisees said, "Why are you doing what is not lawful to do on the sabbath?"2 Quidam autempharisaeorum dixerunt: “ Quid facitis, quod non licet in sabbatis? ”.
3 And Jesus answered, "Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him:3 Etrespondens Iesus ad eos dixit: “ Nec hoc legistis, quod fecit David, cumesurisset ipse et qui cum eo erant?
4 how he entered the house of God, and took and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those with him?"4 Quomodo intravit in domum Dei et panespropositionis sumpsit et manducavit et dedit his, qui cum ipso erant, quos nonlicet manducare nisi tantum sacerdotibus? ”.
5 And he said to them, "The Son of man is lord of the sabbath."5 Et dicebat illis: “ Dominusest sabbati Filius hominis ”.
6 On another sabbath, when he entered the synagogue and taught, a man was there whose right hand was withered.6 Factum est autem in alio sabbato, ut intraret in synagogam et doceret; et eratibi homo, et manus eius dextra erat arida.
7 And the scribes and the Pharisees watched him, to see whether he would heal on the sabbath, so that they might find an accusation against him.7 Observabant autem illum scribae etpharisaei, si sabbato curaret, ut invenirent accusare illum.
8 But he knew their thoughts, and he said to the man who had the withered hand, "Come and stand here." And he rose and stood there.8 Ipse vero sciebatcogitationes eorum et ait homini, qui habebat manum aridam: “ Surge et sta inmedium ”. Et surgens stetit.
9 And Jesus said to them, "I ask you, is it lawful on the sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to destroy it?"9 Ait autem ad illos Iesus: “ Interrogo vos, silicet sabbato bene facere an male; animam salvam facere an perdere? ”.
10 And he looked around on them all, and said to him, "Stretch out your hand." And he did so, and his hand was restored.10 Etcircumspectis omnibus illis, dixit illi: “ Extende manum tuam ”. Et fecit;et restituta est manus eius.
11 But they were filled with fury and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.11 Ipsi autem repleti sunt insipientia etcolloquebantur ad invicem quidnam facerent Iesu.
12 In these days he went out to the mountain to pray; and all night he continued in prayer to God.12 Factum est autem in illis diebus, exiit in montem orare et erat pernoctans inoratione Dei.
13 And when it was day, he called his disciples, and chose from them twelve, whom he named apostles;13 Et cum dies factus esset, vocavit discipulos suos et elegitDuodecim ex ipsis, quos et apostolos nominavit:
14 Simon, whom he named Peter, and Andrew his brother, and James and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew,14 Simonem, quem et cognominavitPetrum, et Andream fratrem eius et Iacobum et Ioannem et Philippum etBartholomaeum
15 and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon who was called the Zealot,15 et Matthaeum et Thomam et Iacobum Alphaei et Simonem, quivocatur Zelotes,
16 and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.16 et Iudam Iacobi et Iudam Iscarioth, qui fuit proditor.
17 And he came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases;17 Et descendens cum illis stetit in loco campestri, et turba multa discipulorumeius, et multitudo copiosa plebis ab omni Iudaea et Ierusalem et maritima Tyriet Sidonis,
18 and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured.18 qui venerunt, ut audirent eum et sanarentur a languoribus suis;et, qui vexabantur a spiritibus immundis, curabantur.
19 And all the crowd sought to touch him, for power came forth from him and healed them all.19 Et omnis turbaquaerebant eum tangere, quia virtus de illo exibat et sanabat omnes.
20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said: "Blessed are you poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.20 Et ipse, elevatis oculis suis in discipulos suos, dicebat:
“ Beati pauperes, quia vestrum est regnum Dei.
21 "Blessed are you that hunger now, for you shall be satisfied. "Blessed are you that weep now, for you shall laugh.21 Beati, qui nunc esuritis, quia saturabimini.
Beati, qui nunc fletis, quia ridebitis.
22 "Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, on account of the Son of man!22 Beati eritis, cum vos oderint homines et cum separaverint vos etexprobraverint et eiecerint nomen vestrum tamquam malum propter Filium hominis.
23 Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets.23 Gaudete in illa die et exsultate, ecce enim merces vestra multa in caelo;secundum haec enim faciebant prophetis patres eorum.
24 "But woe to you that are rich, for you have received your consolation.24 Verumtamen vae vobis divitibus, quia habetis consolationem vestram!
25 "Woe to you that are full now, for you shall hunger. "Woe to you that laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep.25 Vae vobis, qui saturati estis nunc, quia esurietis!
Vae vobis, qui ridetis nunc, quia lugebitis et flebitis!
26 "Woe to you, when all men speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets.26 Vae, cum bene vobis dixerint omnes homines! Secundum haec enim faciebantpseudoprophetis patres eorum.
27 "But I say to you that hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,27 Sed vobis dico, qui auditis: Diligite inimicos vestros, bene facite his, quivos oderunt;
28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.28 benedicite male dicentibus vobis, orate pro calumniantibus vos.
29 To him who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from him who takes away your coat do not withhold even your shirt.29 Ei, qui te percutit in maxillam, praebe et alteram; et ab eo, qui aufert tibivestimentum, etiam tunicam noli prohibere.
30 Give to every one who begs from you; and of him who takes away your goods do not ask them again.30 Omni petenti te tribue; et ab eo,qui aufert, quae tua sunt, ne repetas.
31 And as you wish that men would do to you, do so to them.31 Et prout vultis, ut faciant vobishomines, facite illis similiter.
32 "If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.32 Et si diligitis eos, qui vos diligunt, quaevobis est gratia? Nam et peccatores diligentes se diligunt.
33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.33 Et si benefeceritis his, qui vobis bene faciunt, quae vobis est gratia? Si quidem etpeccatores idem faciunt.
34 And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive as much again.34 Et si mutuum dederitis his, a quibus speratisrecipere, quae vobis gratia est? Nam et peccatores peccatoribus fenerantur, utrecipiant aequalia.
35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the selfish.35 Verumtamen diligite inimicos vestros et bene facite et mutuum date nihildesperantes; et erit merces vestra multa, et eritis filii Altissimi, quia ipsebenignus est super ingratos et malos.
36 Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.36 Estote misericordes, sicut et Patervester misericors est.
37 "Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;37 Et nolite iudicare et non iudicabimini; et nolitecondemnare et non condemnabimini. Dimittite et dimittemini;
38 give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For the measure you give will be the measure you get back."38 date, et dabiturvobis: mensuram bonam, confertam, coagitatam, supereffluentem dabunt in sinumvestrum; eadem quippe mensura, qua mensi fueritis, remetietur vobis ”.
39 He also told them a parable: "Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit?39 Dixit autem illis et similitudinem: “ Numquid potest caecus caecum ducere?Nonne ambo in foveam cadent?
40 A disciple is not above his teacher, but every one when he is fully taught will be like his teacher.40 Non est discipulus super magistrum; perfectus autem omnis erit sicut magistereius.
41 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?41 Quid autem vides festucam in oculo fratris tui, trabem autem, quae in oculotuo est, non consideras?
42 Or how can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,' when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother's eye.42 Quomodo potes dicere fratri tuo: “Frater, sineeiciam festucam, quae est in oculo tuo”, ipse in oculo tuo trabem non videns?Hypocrita, eice primum trabem de oculo tuo et tunc perspicies, ut educasfestucam, quae est in oculo fratris tui.
43 "For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit;43 Non est enim arbor bona faciens fructum malum, neque iterum arbor malafaciens fructum bonum.
44 for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thorns, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush.44 Unaquaeque enim arbor de fructu suo cognoscitur; nequeenim de spinis colligunt ficus, neque de rubo vindemiant uvam.
45 The good man out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil man out of his evil treasure produces evil; for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.45 Bonus homo debono thesauro cordis profert bonum, et malus homo de malo profert malum: exabundantia enim cordis os eius loquitur.
46 "Why do you call me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do what I tell you?46 Quid autem vocatis me: “Domine, Domine”, et non facitis, quae dico?
47 Every one who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like:47 Omnis, qui venit ad me et audit sermones meos et facit eos, ostendam vobis cuisimilis sit:
48 he is like a man building a house, who dug deep, and laid the foundation upon rock; and when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house, and could not shake it, because it had been well built.48 similis est homini aedificanti domum, qui fodit in altum etposuit fundamentum supra petram; inundatione autem facta, illisum est flumendomui illi et non potuit eam movere; bene enim aedificata erat.
49 But he who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation; against which the stream broke, and immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great."49 Qui autemaudivit et non fecit, similis est homini aedificanti domum suam supra terramsine fundamento; in quam illisus est fluvius, et continuo cecidit, et facta estruina domus illius magna ”.
