Luke 12

1 In the meantime, when so many thousands of the multitude had gathered together that they trod upon one another, he began to say to his disciples first, "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.	1 Concorrenti molte turbe, per modo che si conculcavano insieme, incominciò a dire alli discepoli suoi guardatevi dal levamento de' Farisei, il quale è ipocrisia.
2 Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.	2 Onde niuna cosa fassi in ascosto, che non si reveli; nè è si occulta, che non si sappia.
3 Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.	3 Imperò che quelle cose che avete dette in tenebre, diransi in luce; e quelle che nelle orecchie e nelle camere avete parlato, sopra li tetti predicarannosi.
4 "I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.	4 E imperò io dico a voi, amici miei: non abbiate paura di quelli che uccidono lo corpo, imperò che dopo questo non hanno potestà di potere più fare a voi.
5 But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear him!	5 Ma io vi mostrarò cui voi dovete temere; temete colui che vi può uccidere, e ha potestà di deponervi nel fuoco eternale (l'anima e il corpo). E però dico a voi: questo temete.
6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God.	6 Or non vedete voi, che cinque passere si danno per uno denaro, e una di quelle non è in dimenticanza a Dio?
7 Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.	7 E anche li vostri capelli del capo sono annumerati tutti. Adunque non vogliate temere; imperò che voi siete da più che non sono le passere.
8 "And I tell you, every one who acknowledges me before men, the Son of man also will acknowledge before the angels of God;	8 E anche vi dico che qualunque mi confessarà dinanzi dagli uomini, il Figliuolo dell' uomo confessarà quello dinanzi agli angioli di Dio.
9 but he who denies me before men will be denied before the angels of God.	9 E chi mi negarà dinanzi alli uomini, egli sarà negato dinanzi alli angioli di Dio.
10 And every one who speaks a word against the Son of man will be forgiven; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.	10 E ogni uomo, che dirà alcuna parola contra il Figliuolo di Dio, sara'li perdonato; ma non sarà perdonato a colui che blasfemerà nel Spirito Santo.
11 And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious how or what you are to answer or what you are to say;	11 Ma quando vi induceranno nelle sinagoghe, e dinanzi alli principi e potestati, non vogliate essere solleciti, ovvero che rispondiate, ovvero che diciate.
12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say."	12 Imperò che in quell' ora il Spirito Santo v' insegnerà quel che bisogna dicere.
13 One of the multitude said to him, "Teacher, bid my brother divide the inheritance with me."	13 E uno della turba gli disse: maestro, di al fratello mio, che meco egli divida la eredità.
14 But he said to him, "Man, who made me a judge or divider over you?"	14 Ed egli li disse: o uomo, cui mi ha constituito sopra di voi giudice, ovvero divisore?
15 And he said to them, "Take heed, and beware of all covetousness; for a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."	15 E a loro disse: guardatevi e fuggite da ogni avarizia; imperò che la vita non è abbondante di qualunque di quelle cose ch' egli possiede.
16 And he told them a parable, saying, "The land of a rich man brought forth plentifully;	16 Alli quali disse la similitudine: uno campo di uno ricco uomo produsse ubertissimi frutti (e in abbondanza).
17 and he thought to himself, 'What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?'	17 E fra sè pensava, dicendo: che farò io, che non ho dove riporre li miei frutti?
18 And he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns, and build larger ones; and there I will store all my grain and my goods.	18 E disse farò questo; distruggerò li miei granari, e farolli maggiori; e in quel luogo raunerò tutte le cose che mi son nasciute, e tutti li miei beni.
19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.'	19 E dirò all' anima mia: anima, tu hai molti beni, reposti per molti anni; ripòsati, manduca e bevi, e godi ne' conviti.
20 But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul is required of you; and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?'	20 E a lui disse Iddio: o pazzo, in questa notte da te toglieranno l'anima tua; e quel che hai apparecchiato, di cui sarà?
21 So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."	21 [Così] è a cui si accumula tesauri, ed elli non è ricco in Iddio.
22 And he said to his disciples, "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat, nor about your body, what you shall put on.	22 E poscia disse alli discepoli suoi: e però io vi dico: all' anima vostra non vogliate esser solleciti del vostro manucare, e al vostro corpo del vestire.
23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.	23 L'anima è più che il cibo, e il corpo è più che il vestimento.
24 Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds!	24 Considerate li corvi, imperò che non sèminano e non mietono, alli quali non è granaro nè cellaro, e Iddio gli pasce; quanto maggiormente voi, che siete da più di quelli?
25 And which of you by being anxious can add a cubit to his span of life?	25 E chi è di voi, che pensando possi aggiungere uno cubito alla sua statura?
26 If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest?	26 Se adunque non potete fare quel ch' è minima cosa, il perchè siete solleciti delle altre cose?
27 Consider the lilies, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.	27 Considerate gli gigli come crescono; non s' affaticano, nè filano; certo io vi dico: etiam Salomone non si vestiva, in ogni sua gloria, a modo di uno di questi.
28 But if God so clothes the grass which is alive in the field today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O men of little faith!	28 E se il fieno, che oggi è nel campo e domani sì è posto nella fornace, Iddio così veste; quanto maggiormente voi, di piccola fede?
29 And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be of anxious mind.	29 E voi non vogliate cercare quel che manucate, ovvero che bevete; e non vi vogliate esaltare nelle cose sublimi.
30 For all the nations of the world seek these things; and your Father knows that you need them.	30 Onde le genti del mondo chiedono tutte queste cose. Di che il Padre vostro sa come avete bisogno di queste cose.
31 Instead, seek his kingdom, and these things shall be yours as well.	31 Ma pur cercate prima il regno di Dio, e la sua giustizia; e a voi saranno aggiunte tutte queste cose.
32 "Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.	32 Non vogliate temere, piccolino gregge; imperò che al Padre vostro ha compiaciuto a darvi il regno.
33 Sell your possessions, and give alms; provide yourselves with purses that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.	33 Vendete quel che possedete, e date la elemosina; fatevi sacculi che non s'invecchiano, il tesauro che non viene a meno in cielo, dove non ruba il ladro, ed etiam non corrumpe la tarma.
34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.	34 Imperò che certo, dove egli è il vostro tesauro, quivi etiam sarà il vostro cuore.
35 "Let your loins be girded and your lamps burning,	35 Siano precinti li vostri fianchi, e siate lucerne ardenti.
36 and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the marriage feast, so that they may open to him at once when he comes and knocks.	36 E voi siate simili alli uomini aspettanti il signore suo, quando si ritorni dalle nozze, che quando egli verrà e picchiarà all' uscio, incontanente egli aprino a lui.
37 Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes; truly, I say to you, he will gird himself and have them sit at table, and he will come and serve them.	37 Beati sono quelli servi li quali, venendo il suo signore, troveralli vigilanti; in verità vi dico, ch' egli cingerassi, e faragli ponere a manucare, e serviralli.
38 If he comes in the second watch, or in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those servants!	38 E se egli verrà nella seconda vigilia e nella terza, e così troverà, beati sono quelli servi.
39 But know this, that if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would have been awake and would not have left his house to be broken into.	39 Ma questo sappiate, che se il padre della famiglia sapesse in qual ora venisse il ladro, certamente egli vigilarebbe, e non permetteria che fosse scavata la sua casa.
40 You also must be ready; for the Son of man is coming at an unexpected hour."	40 E voi siate apparecchiati; imperò che in qual ora non pensate, il Figliuolo dell' uomo verrà.
41 Peter said, "Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for all?"	41 Di che dissegli Pietro: Signore, a noi di' questa parabola, ovvero a tutti?
42 And the Lord said, "Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his master will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the proper time?	42 E dissegli il Signore: chi pensi sia fedele dispensatore e prudente, il quale il signore constituisce sopra la famiglia, acciò gli doni nel tempo la misura del frumento?
43 Blessed is that servant whom his master when he comes will find so doing.	43 Egli è beato quel servo, il quale quando verrà il signore, troverallo fare a tal modo.
44 Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions.	44 Veramente io vi dico, ch' egli il constituirà sopra tutte le cose ch' egli possiede.
45 But if that servant says to himself, 'My master is delayed in coming,' and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink and get drunk,	45 E se quel servo dirà nel suo cuore: il mio signore indugia a venire, e incomincerà a percuotere li servi e le ancille, e a manucare e a bere e inebriarsi,
46 the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will punish him, and put him with the unfaithful.	46 verrà il signore di quel servo nel giorno ch' egli non spera, e nell' ora ch' egli non sa, e dividerallo, e ponerà la sua parte con gl' infedeli.
47 And that servant who knew his master's will, but did not make ready or act according to his will, shall receive a severe beating.	47 E quel servo il quale ha conosciuto la volontà del suo signore, e non fece secondo la sua volontà, sarà battuto di molte battiture.
48 But he who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, shall receive a light beating. Every one to whom much is given, of him will much be required; and of him to whom men commit much they will demand the more.	48 Ma colui che non arà conosciuto, e ha fatto [in]degnamente, sarà battuto con poche ferite. Di che a ogni uomo, a cui è dato molto, addimanderassi molto da quello; e a cui aranno arricomandato molto, da quello più addimanderanno
49 "I came to cast fire upon the earth; and would that it were already kindled!	49 Io sono venuto a mandare il fuoco in terra; e che vogl' io, salvo che sia acceso?
50 I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how I am constrained until it is accomplished!	50 Io ho [da] essere battezzato col battesimo; e a qual modo sono constretto insino che si adempia?
51 Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division;	51 Pensate voi ch' io sia venuto a ponere pace in terra? Non, dico a voi, ma (sono venuto a ponere) separazione.
52 for henceforth in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three;	52 Imperò che saranno cinque in una casa, per questo divisi; tre divideransi in duoi, e duoi in tre;
53 they will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against her mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law."	53 il padre contra il figliuolo, e il figliuolo contra il padre; la madre contra la figliuola, e la figliuola contra la madre; la socera contra la sua nuora, e la nuora contra la socera.
54 He also said to the multitudes, "When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once, 'A shower is coming'; and so it happens.	54 Ed etiam diceva alle turbe: quando vedete venire le nuvole dal tramontare del sole, incontanente dicete viene il nembo; e così è.
55 And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, 'There will be scorching heat'; and it happens.	55 E quando vedete soffiare il vento austro, dicete che sarà caldo; e così è.
56 You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky; but why do you not know how to interpret the present time?	56 Ipocriti, voi sapete provare la faccia del cielo e della terra; ma questo tempo come non provate?
57 "And why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?	57 Ma il perchè non giudicate da voi stessi quel ch' è giusto?
58 As you go with your accuser before the magistrate, make an effort to settle with him on the way, lest he drag you to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, and the officer put you in prison.	58 E quando tu vai col tuo avversario per la via dinanzi al principe, dà cagione di essere liberato da quello, acciò forse non ti tiri al giudice, e il giudice ti dia all' esattore, e l'esattore ti ponga in prigione.
59 I tell you, you will never get out till you have paid the very last copper."	59 Dicoti, che non uscirai di indi, insino che non restituisci l' ultimo minuto denaro.
