1 And when he returned to Caperna-um after some days, it was reported that he was at home.	1 Après quelque temps il revint à Capharnaüm. Quand on apprit qu’il était à la maison,
2 And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room for them, not even about the door; and he was preaching the word to them.	2 beaucoup de gens s’y retrouvèrent, au point qu’il n’y avait plus de place devant la porte. Et lui, il leur annonçait la Parole.
3 And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men.	3 Voici des gens qui arrivent et lui amènent un paralysé: ils sont quatre à le porter.
4 And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him; and when they had made an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic lay.	4 Comme ils ne peuvent le lui présenter à cause de la foule, ils défont le toit là où il se trouve et, après avoir fait un trou, ils font descendre le brancard sur lequel le paralysé est étendu.
5 And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "My son, your sins are forgiven."	5 Voyant leur foi, Jésus dit au paralysé: "Mon fils, tes péchés te sont pardonnés.”
6 Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts,	6 Quelques maîtres de la Loi sont là assis, et ils font intérieurement cette remarque:
7 "Why does this man speak thus? It is blasphemy! Who can forgive sins but God alone?"	7 "Comment peut-il parler ainsi? C’est un blasphème! Qui peut pardonner les péchés sinon Dieu?”
8 And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, "Why do you question thus in your hearts?	8 Mais Jésus sait déjà dans son esprit qu’ils se font en eux-mêmes ces réflexions. Aussi leur dit-il: "Pourquoi ruminez-vous cela dans vos cœurs?
9 Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say,' Rise, take up your pallet and walk?	9 Quel est le plus facile: de dire au paralysé: ‘Tes péchés te sont pardonnés’, ou de dire: ‘Lève-toi, prends ton brancard et marche’?
10 But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins"--he said to the paralytic--	10 “Eh bien, vous saurez que sur la terre le Fils de l’Homme a autorité pour remettre les péchés.”
11 "I say to you, rise, take up your pallet and go home."	11 Jésus dit alors au paralysé: "Lève-toi, tu m’entends! prends ton brancard et va-t’en chez toi.”
12 And he rose, and immediately took up the pallet and went out before them all; so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, "We never saw anything like this!"	12 L’homme se leva aussitôt, prit son brancard et sortit devant tout le monde; tous en étaient stupéfaits et glorifiaient Dieu en disant: "Jamais nous n’avons vu chose pareille!”
13 He went out again beside the sea; and all the crowd gathered about him, and he taught them.	13 De nouveau Jésus sortit sur le bord de mer; toute la foule venait à lui et il les enseignait.
14 And as he passed on, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office, and he said to him, "Follow me." And he rose and followed him.	14 En passant il vit Lévi, fils d’Alphée, installé au poste de douane. Il lui dit: "Suis-moi!” L’autre se leva et commença à le suivre.
15 And as he sat at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners were sitting with Jesus and his disciples; for there were many who followed him.	15 Comme il était à table dans la maison de Lévi, quelques collecteurs de l’impôt et autres pécheurs prirent place avec Jésus et ses disciples: il y en avait un certain nombre. Mais parmi ceux qui suivaient Jésus
16 And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, "Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?"	16 il y avait aussi des maîtres de la Loi du groupe des Pharisiens. En le voyant manger avec des pécheurs et des collecteurs de l’impôt, ils dirent à ses disciples: "Comment! Il mange avec les collecteurs de l’impôt et les pécheurs?”
17 And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."	17 Mais Jésus avait entendu; il leur dit: "Ce ne sont pas les bien portants qui ont besoin d’un médecin, mais les malades. Je ne suis pas venu, moi, pour appeler des justes mais des pécheurs.”
18 Now John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting; and people came and said to him, "Why do John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?"	18 Les disciples de Jean et les Pharisiens étaient en train de jeûner, et voici qu’on vient demander à Jésus: "Les disciples de Jean et ceux des Pharisiens jeûnent: pourquoi tes disciples ne jeûnent-ils pas?”
19 And Jesus said to them, "Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.	19 Jésus leur répond: "Les compagnons du nouvel époux peuvent-ils jeûner pendant que l’époux est avec eux? Aussi longtemps qu’ils ont l’époux avec eux, ils ne peuvent pas jeûner.
20 The days will come, when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day.	20 Le jour viendra où l’époux leur sera enlevé, alors ils jeûneront.
21 No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; if he does, the patch tears away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear is made.	21 “On ne rapièce pas un vieux vêtement avec une pièce de tissu qui n’a jamais été lavé; autrement la pièce tire sur lui, le neuf emporte le vieux et la déchirure devient pire.
22 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; if he does, the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost, and so are the skins; but new wine is for fresh skins."	22 Personne ne met du vin nouveau dans de vieilles outres; autrement le vin fait craquer les outres, et le vin comme les outres sont perdus. On met le vin nouveau dans des outres neuves!”
23 One sabbath he was going through the grainfields; and as they made their way his disciples began to pluck heads of grain.	23 Or, un jour de sabbat, Jésus traversait des blés mûrs; chemin faisant ses disciples commencèrent à cueillir des épis.
24 And the Pharisees said to him, "Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the sabbath?"	24 Les Pharisiens lui dirent: "Regarde, pourquoi font-ils le jour du sabbat ce qui n’est pas permis?”
25 And he said to them, "Have you never read what David did, when he was in need and was hungry, he and those who were with him:	25 Jésus répondit: "Vous n’avez donc jamais lu ce qu’a fait David un jour où c’était urgent, car il avait faim, lui et ses hommes.
26 how he entered the house of God, when Abiathar was high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those who were with him?"	26 Il est entré dans la Maison de Dieu, au temps du prêtre Abiathar, et il a mangé les pains de la présence que nul n’a le droit de manger, sauf les prêtres; il en a donné de même à ses compagnons.”
27 And he said to them, "The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath;	27 Jésus leur disait: "Le sabbat a été fait pour l’homme, et non l’homme pour le sabbat.
28 so the Son of man is lord even of the sabbath."	28 Sachez que le Fils de l’Homme est Seigneur, même du sabbat.”
