1 When Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said to his disciples,	1 Quando Jesus acabou todos esses discursos, disse a seus discípulos:
2 "You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of man will be delivered up to be crucified."	2 “Sabeis que daqui a dois dias será a Páscoa, e o Filho do Homem será traído para ser crucificado”.
3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,	3 Então, os príncipes dos sacer­dotes e os anciãos do povo reuniram-se no pátio do sumo sacerdote, chamado Caifás,
4 and took counsel together in order to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him.	4 e deliberaram sobre os meios de prender Jesus por astúcia e de o matar.
5 But they said, "Not during the feast, lest there be a tumult among the people."	5 E dizi­am: “Sobretudo, não seja durante a festa. Poderá haver um tumulto entre o povo”.
6 Now when Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,	6 Encontrava-se Jesus em Betânia, na casa de Simão, o leproso.
7 a woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head, as he sat at table.	7 Estando à mesa, aproximou-se dele uma mulher com um vaso de alabastro, cheio de perfume muito caro, e derramou-o na sua cabeça.
8 But when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, "Why this waste?	8 Vendo isso, os discípulos disseram indignados: “Para que este desperdício?
9 For this ointment might have been sold for a large sum, and given to the poor."	9 Poderia vender este perfume por um bom preço e dar o dinheiro aos pobres”.
10 But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, "Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me.	10 Jesus ouviu-os e disse-lhes: “Por que molestais esta mulher? É uma ação boa o que ela me fez.
11 For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me.	11 Pobres vós tereis sempre convosco. A mim, porém, nem sempre me tereis.
12 In pouring this ointment on my body she has done it to prepare me for burial.	12 Derramando esse perfume em meu corpo, ela o fez em vista da minha sepultura.
13 Truly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her."	13 Em verdade eu vos digo: em toda parte onde for pregado este Evangelho pelo mundo inteiro, será contado em sua memória o que ela fez”.
14 Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests	14 Então, um dos Doze, chamado Judas Iscariotes, foi ter com os príncipes dos sacerdotes e perguntou-lhes:
15 and said, "What will you give me if I deliver him to you?" And they paid him thirty pieces of silver.	15 “Que quereis dar-me e eu vo-lo entregarei”. Ajustaram com ele trinta moedas de prata.
16 And from that moment he sought an opportunity to betray him.	16 E desde aquele instante, procurava uma ocasião favorável para entregar Jesus.
17 Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Where will you have us prepare for you to eat the passover?"	17 No primeiro dia dos ázimos, os discípulos aproximaram-se de Jesus e perguntaram-lhe: “Onde queres que preparemos a ceia pascal?”.
18 He said, "Go into the city to a certain one, and say to him, 'The Teacher says, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at your house with my disciples.'"	18 Respondeu-lhes Jesus: “Ide à cidade, à casa de um tal, e dizei-lhe: O Mestre manda dizer-te: Meu tempo está próximo. É em tua casa que celebrarei a Páscoa com meus discípulos”.
19 And the disciples did as Jesus had directed them, and they prepared the passover.	19 Os discípulos fizeram o que Jesus tinha ordenado e prepararam a Páscoa.
20 When it was evening, he sat at table with the twelve disciples;	20 Ao declinar da tarde, pôs-se Jesus à mesa com os doze discípulos.
21 and as they were eating, he said, "Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me."	21 Durante a ceia, disse: “Em verdade vos digo: um de vós me há de trair”.
22 And they were very sorrowful, and began to say to him one after another, "Is it I, Lord?"	22 Com profunda aflição, cada um começou a perguntar: “Sou eu, Senhor?”.
23 He answered, "He who has dipped his hand in the dish with me, will betray me.	23 Respondeu ele: “Aquele que pôs comigo a mão no prato, esse me trairá.
24 The Son of man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born."	24 O Filho do Homem vai, como dele está escrito. Mas ai daquele homem por quem o Filho do Homem é traído! Seria melhor para esse homem que jamais tivesse nascido!”.
25 Judas, who betrayed him, said, "Is it I, Master?" He said to him, "You have said so."	25 Judas, o traidor, tomou a palavra e perguntou: “Mestre, serei eu?”. “Sim” – disse Jesus.
26 Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, "Take, eat; this is my body."	26 Durante a refeição, Jesus tomou o pão, benzeu-o, partiu-o e o deu aos discípulos, dizendo: “Tomai e comei, isto é meu corpo”.
27 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, "Drink of it, all of you;	27 Tomou depois o cálice, rendeu graças e deu-lho, dizendo: “Bebei dele todos,
28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.	28 porque isto é meu sangue, o sangue da Nova Aliança, derramado por muitos homens em remissão dos pecados.
29 I tell you I shall not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom."	29 Digo-vos: doravante não beberei mais desse fruto da vinha até o dia em que o beberei de novo convosco no Reino de meu Pai”.
30 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.	30 Depois do canto dos Salmos, dirigiram-se eles para o monte das Oliveiras.
31 Then Jesus said to them, "You will all fall away because of me this night; for it is written, 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.'	31 Disse-lhes então Jesus: “Esta noite serei para todos vós uma ocasião de queda; porque está escrito: Ferirei o pastor, e as ovelhas do rebanho serão dispersadas ( Zc 13,7 ).
32 But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee."	32 Mas, depois da minha Ressurreição, eu vos precederei na Galileia”.
33 Peter declared to him, "Though they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away."	33 Pedro interveio: “Mesmo que sejas para todos uma ocasião de queda, para mim jamais o serás”.
34 Jesus said to him, "Truly, I say to you, this very night, before the cock crows, you will deny me three times."	34 Disse-lhe Jesus: “Em verdade te digo: nesta noite mesma, antes que o galo cante, três vezes me negarás”.
35 Peter said to him, "Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you." And so said all the disciples.	35 Respondeu-lhe Pedro: “Mesmo que seja necessário morrer contigo, jamais te negarei!”. E todos os outros discípulos diziam-lhe o mesmo.
36 Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, "Sit here, while I go yonder and pray."	36 Retirou-se Jesus com eles para um lugar chamado Getsêmani e disse-lhes: “Assentai-vos aqui, enquanto eu vou ali orar...
37 And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled.	37 E, tomando consigo Pedro e os dois filhos de Zebedeu, começou a entristecer-se e a angustiar-se.
38 Then he said to them, "My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me."	38 Disse-lhes, então: “Minha alma está triste até a morte. Ficai aqui e vigiai comigo”.
39 And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, "My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt."	39 Adiantou-se um pouco e, prostrando-se com a face por terra, assim rezou: “Meu Pai, se é possível, afasta de mim este cálice! Todavia, não se faça o que eu quero, mas sim o que tu queres”.
40 And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping; and he said to Peter, "So, could you not watch with me one hour?	40 Foi ter então com os discípulos e os encontrou dormindo. E disse a Pedro: “Então, não pudestes vigiar uma hora comigo...
41 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."	41 Vigiai e orai para que não entreis em tentação. O espírito está pronto, mas a carne é fraca”.
42 Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, "My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, thy will be done."	42 Afastou-se pela segunda vez e orou, dizendo: “Meu Pai, se não é possível que este cálice passe sem que eu o beba, faça-se a tua vontade!”
43 And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.	43 Voltou ainda e os encontrou novamente dormindo, porque seus olhos estavam pesados.
44 So, leaving them again, he went away and prayed for the third time, saying the same words.	44 Deixou-os e foi orar pela terceira vez, dizendo as mesmas palavras.
45 Then he came to the disciples and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.	45 Voltou, então, para os seus discípulos e disse-lhes: “Dormi agora e repousai! Chegou a hora: o Filho do Homem vai ser entregue nas mãos dos pecadores...
46 Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand."	46 Levantai-vos, vamos! Aquele que me trai está perto daqui”.
47 While he was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a great crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the elders of the people.	47 Jesus ainda falava, quando veio Judas, um dos Doze, e com ele uma multidão de gente armada de espadas e cacetes, enviada pelos príncipes dos sacerdotes e pelos anciãos do povo.
48 Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, "The one I shall kiss is the man; seize him."	48 O traidor combinara com eles este sinal: “Aquele que eu beijar, é ele. Prendei-o!”.
49 And he came up to Jesus at once and said, "Hail, Master!" And he kissed him.	49 Aproximou-se imediatamente de Jesus e disse: “Salve, Mestre”. E beijou-o.
50 Jesus said to him, "Friend, why are you here?" Then they came up and laid hands on Jesus and seized him.	50 Disse-lhe Jesus: “É, então, para isso que vens aqui?”. Em seguida, adiantaram-se eles e lançaram mão em Jesus para prendê-lo.
51 And behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest, and cut off his ear.	51 Mas um dos companheiros de Jesus desembainhou a espada e feriu um servo do sumo sacerdote, decepando-lhe a orelha.
52 Then Jesus said to him, "Put your sword back into its place; for all who take the sword will perish by the sword.	52 Jesus, no entanto, lhe dis­se: “Embainha tua espada, porque todos aqueles que usarem da espada, pela espada morrerão.
53 Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels?	53 Crês tu que não posso invocar meu Pai e ele não me enviaria imediatamente mais de doze legiões de anjos?
54 But how then should the scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?"	54 Mas como se cumpririam então as Escrituras, segundo as quais é preciso que seja assim?”.
55 At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Day after day I sat in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me.	55 Depois, voltando-se para a turba, falou: “Saístes armados de espadas e porretes para prender-me, como se eu fosse um malfeitor. Entretanto, todos os dias estava eu sentado entre vós ensinando no templo e não me prendestes.
56 But all this has taken place, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all the disciples forsook him and fled.	56 Mas tudo isto aconteceu porque era necessário que se cumprissem os oráculos dos profetas”. Então, os discípulos o abandonaram e fugiram.
57 Then those who had seized Jesus led him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had gathered.	57 Os que haviam prendido Jesus levaram-no à casa do sumo sacerdote Caifás, onde estavam reu­nidos os escribas e os anciãos do povo.
58 But Peter followed him at a distance, as far as the courtyard of the high priest, and going inside he sat with the guards to see the end.	58 Pedro seguia-o de longe, até o pátio do sumo sacerdote. Entrou e sentou-se junto aos criados para ver como terminaria aquilo.
59 Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false testimony against Jesus that they might put him to death,	59 Enquanto isso, os príncipes dos sacerdotes e todo o conselho procuravam um falso testemunho contra Jesus, a fim de o levarem à morte.
60 but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came forward	60 Mas não o conseguiram, embora se apresentassem muitas falsas testemunhas.
61 and said, "This fellow said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.'"	61 Por fim, apresentaram-se duas testemunhas, que disseram: “Este homem disse: Posso destruir o Templo de Deus e reedificá-lo em três dias”.
62 And the high priest stood up and said, "Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?"	62 Levantou-se o sumo sacerdote e lhe perguntou: “Nada tens a responder ao que essa gente depõe contra ti?”.
63 But Jesus was silent. And the high priest said to him, "I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God."	63 Jesus, no entanto, permanecia calado. Disse-lhe o sumo sacerdote: “Por Deus vivo, conjuro-te que nos digas se és o Cristo, o Filho de Deus?”.
64 Jesus said to him, "You have said so. But I tell you, hereafter you will see the Son of man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven."	64 Jesus respondeu: “Sim. Além disso, eu vos declaro que vereis doravante o Filho do Homem sentar-se à direita do Todo-poderoso, e voltar sobre as nuvens do céu”.
65 Then the high priest tore his robes, and said, "He has uttered blasphemy. Why do we still need witnesses? You have now heard his blasphemy.	65 A essas palavras, o sumo sacerdote rasgou suas vestes, exclamando: “Que necessidade temos ainda de testemunhas? Acabastes de ouvir a blasfêmia!
66 What is your judgment?" They answered, "He deserves death."	66 Qual o vosso parecer?”. Eles responderam: “Merece a morte!”.
67 Then they spat in his face, and struck him; and some slapped him,	67 Cuspiram-lhe então na face, bateram-lhe com os punhos e deram-lhe tapas,
68 saying, "Prophesy to us, you Christ! Who is it that struck you?"	68 dizendo: “Adi­vinha, ó Cristo: quem te bateu?”. (= Mc 14,66-72 = Lc 22,55-62 = Jo 18,15-27 )
69 Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. And a maid came up to him, and said, "You also were with Jesus the Galilean."	69 Enquanto isso, Pedro estava sentado no pátio. Aproximou-se dele uma das servas, dizendo: “Também tu estavas com Jesus, o Galileu”.
70 But he denied it before them all, saying, "I do not know what you mean."	70 Mas ele negou publicamente, nestes termos: “Não sei o que dizes”.
71 And when he went out to the porch, another maid saw him, and she said to the bystanders, "This man was with Jesus of Nazareth."	71 Dirigia-se ele para a porta, a fim de sair, quando outra criada o viu e disse aos que lá estavam: “Este homem também estava com Jesus de Nazaré”.
72 And again he denied it with an oath, "I do not know the man."	72 Pedro, pela segunda vez, negou com juramento: “Eu nem conheço tal homem”.
73 After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter, "Certainly you are also one of them, for your accent betrays you."	73 Pouco depois, os que ali estavam aproximaram-se de Pedro e disseram: “Sim, tu és daqueles; teu modo de falar te dá a conhecer”.
74 Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, "I do not know the man." And immediately the cock crowed.	74 Pedro, então, começou a fazer imprecações, jurando que nem sequer conhecia tal homem. E, neste momento, cantou o galo.
75 And Peter remembered the saying of Jesus, "Before the cock crows, you will deny me three times." And he went out and wept bitterly.	75 Pedro recordou-se do que Jesus lhe dissera: “Antes que o galo cante, tu me negarás três vezes”. E saindo, chorou amargamente.
