Matthew 20

1 "For the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.	1 "Car il en va du Royaume des Cieux comme d'un propriétaire qui sortit au point du jour afind'embaucher des ouvriers pour sa vigne.
2 After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.	2 Il convint avec les ouvriers d'un denier pour la journée et les envoya à sa vigne.
3 And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the market place;	3 Sorti vers la troisième heure, il en vit d'autres qui se tenaient, désoeuvrés, sur la place,
4 and to them he said, 'You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will give you.' So they went.	4 et à ceux-là il dit: Allez, vous aussi, à la vigne, et je vous donnerai un salaire équitable.
5 Going out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour, he did the same.	5 Et ils y allèrent. Sorti de nouveau vers la sixième heure, puis vers la neuvième heure, il fit demême.
6 And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing; and he said to them, 'Why do you stand here idle all day?'	6 Vers la onzième heure, il sortit encore, en trouva d'autres qui se tenaient là et leur dit: Pourquoirestez-vous ici tout le jour sans travailler? --
7 They said to him, 'Because no one has hired us.' He said to them, 'You go into the vineyard too.'	7 C'est que, lui disent-ils, personne ne nous a embauchés; Il leur dit: Allez, vous aussi, à la vigne.
8 And when evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, 'Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last, up to the first.'	8 Le soir venu, le maître de la vigne dit à son intendant: Appelle les ouvriers et remets à chacun sonsalaire, en remontant des derniers aux premiers.
9 And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius.	9 Ceux de la onzième heure vinrent donc et touchèrent un denier chacun.
10 Now when the first came, they thought they would receive more; but each of them also received a denarius.	10 Les premiers, venant à leur tour, pensèrent qu'ils allaient toucher davantage; mais c'est un denierchacun qu'ils touchèrent, eux aussi.
11 And on receiving it they grumbled at the householder,	11 Tout en le recevant, ils murmuraient contre le propriétaire:
12 saying, 'These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.'	12 Ces derniers venus n'ont fait qu'une heure, et tu les as traités comme nous, qui avons porté lefardeau de la journée, avec sa chaleur.
13 But he replied to one of them, 'Friend, I am doing you no wrong; did you not agree with me for a denarius?	13 Alors il répliqua en disant à l'un d'eux: Mon ami, je ne te lèse en rien: n'est-ce pas d'un denierque nous sommes convenus?
14 Take what belongs to you, and go; I choose to give to this last as I give to you.	14 Prends ce qui te revient et va-t'en. Il me plaît de donner à ce dernier venu autant qu'à toi:
15 Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?'	15 n'ai-je pas le droit de disposer de mes biens comme il me plaît? Ou faut-il que tu sois jalouxparce que je suis bon?
16 So the last will be first, and the first last."	16 Voilà comment les derniers seront premiers, et les premiers seront derniers."
17 And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them,	17 Devant monter à Jérusalem, Jésus prit avec lui les Douze en particulier et leur dit pendant laroute:
18 "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death,	18 "Voici que nous montons à Jérusalem, et le Fils de l'homme sera livré aux grands prêtres et auxscribes; ils le condamneront à mort
19 and deliver him to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day."	19 et le livreront aux païens pour être bafoué, flagellé et mis en croix; et le troisième jour, ilressuscitera."
20 Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him, with her sons, and kneeling before him she asked him for something.	20 Alors la mère des fils de Zébédée s'approcha de lui, avec ses fils, et se prosterna pour luidemander quelque chose.
21 And he said to her, "What do you want?" She said to him, "Command that these two sons of mine may sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your kingdom."	21 "Que veux-tu?" Lui dit-il. Elle lui dit: "Ordonne que mes deux fils que voici siègent, l'un à tadroite et l'autre à ta gauche, dans ton Royaume."
22 But Jesus answered, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am to drink?" They said to him, "We are able."	22 Jésus répondit: "Vous ne savez pas ce que vous demandez. Pouvez-vous boire la coupe que jevais boire?" Ils lui disent: "Nous le pouvons" --
23 He said to them, "You will drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father."	23 "Soit, leur dit-il, vous boirez ma coupe; quant à siéger à ma droite et à ma gauche, il nem'appartient pas d'accorder cela, mais c'est pour ceux à qui mon Père l'a destiné."
24 And when the ten heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers.	24 Les dix autres, qui avaient entendu, s'indignèrent contre les deux frères.
25 But Jesus called them to him and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them.	25 Les ayant appelés près de lui, Jésus dit: "Vous savez que les chefs des nations dominent sur ellesen maîtres et que les grands leur font sentir leur pouvoir.
26 It shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant,	26 Il n'en doit pas être ainsi parmi vous: au contraire, celui qui voudra devenir grand parmi vous,sera votre serviteur,
27 and whoever would be first among you must be your slave;	27 et celui qui voudra être le premier d'entre vous, sera votre esclave.
28 even as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."	28 C'est ainsi que le Fils de l'homme n'est pas venu pour être servi, mais pour servir et donner savie en rançon pour une multitude."
29 And as they went out of Jericho, a great crowd followed him.	29 Comme ils sortaient de Jéricho, une foule nombreuse le suivit.
30 And behold, two blind men sitting by the roadside, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, "Have mercy on us, Son of David!"	30 Et voici que deux aveugles étaient assis au bord du chemin; quand ils apprirent que Jésuspassait, ils s'écrièrent: "Seigneur! aie pitié de nous, fils de David!"
31 The crowd rebuked them, telling them to be silent; but they cried out the more, "Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!"	31 La foule les rabroua pour leur imposer silence; mais ils redoublèrent leurs cris: "Seigneur! aiepitié de nous, fils de David!"
32 And Jesus stopped and called them, saying, "What do you want me to do for you?"	32 Jésus, s'arrêtant, les appela et dit: "Que voulez-vous que je fasse pour vous?" Ils lui disent:
33 They said to him, "Lord, let our eyes be opened."	33 "Seigneur, que nos yeux s'ouvrent!"
34 And Jesus in pity touched their eyes, and immediately they received their sight and followed him.	34 Pris de pitié, Jésus leur toucha les yeux et aussitôt ils recouvrèrent la vue. Et ils se mirent à sasuite.
