1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of She-alti-el, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest,	1 L'anno secondo del re Dario, il sesto mese, il dì primo del mese, il Signore parlò per mezzo di Aggeo profeta a Zorobabele figliuolo di Salathiel principe di Giuda, e a Gesù Figliuolo di Josedec sommo sacerdote, ed egli disse:
2 "Thus says the LORD of hosts: This people say the time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the LORD."	2 Queste cose dice il Signore degli eserciti: Questo popolo dice: Non è ancor venuto il tempo di rifabbricare la casa del Signore.
3 Then the word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet,	3 Ma il Signore ha parlato ad Aggeo profeta, ed ha detto:
4 "Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins?	4 E' egli adunque tempo per voi di abitare in case di belle soffitte, e questa casa è deserta?
5 Now therefore thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider how you have fared.	5 Ora adunque così dite il Signore degli eserciti: Applicatevi col vostro cuore a riflettere sopra i vostri andamenti.
6 You have sown much, and harvested little; you eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages earns wages to put them into a bag with holes.	6 Voi avete seminato molto, e fatta tenue raccolta: avete mangiato, e non vi siete saziati: avete bevuto, e non vi siete esilarati: vi siete coperti, e non vi siete riscaldati: e colui, che ragunava i suoi salari gli ha messi in una tasca rotta.
7 "Thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider how you have fared.	7 Così dice il Signore degli eserciti: Applicatevi col vostro cuore a riflettere sopra ì vostri andamenti.
8 Go up to the hills and bring wood and build the house, that I may take pleasure in it and that I may appear in my glory, says the LORD.	8 Salite al monte, preparate i legnami, e rifabbricate la casa, e in essa io mi compiacerò, e sarò glorificato, dice il Signore.
9 You have looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why? says the LORD of hosts. Because of my house that lies in ruins, while you busy yourselves each with his own house.	9 Voi speravate il più, ed evvi toccato il meno; e lo portaste a casa, e io lo feci sparir con un soffio: e per qual ragione, dice il Signor degli eserciti? Perchè la mia casa è deserta, e ciascuno i voi ha avuto gran fretta per la casa propria.
10 Therefore the heavens above you have withheld the dew, and the earth has withheld its produce.	10 Per questo fu proibito a' cieli di darvi ruggiada, e fu proibito alla terra di produrre i suoi frutti.
11 And I have called for a drought upon the land and the hills, upon the grain, the new wine, the oil, upon what the ground brings forth, upon men and cattle, and upon all their labors."	11 E mandai l'asciuttore sopra la terra, e sui monti, e a' danni del grano, e del vino, e dell'olio, e di tutti i prodotti delle campagne, e degli uomini, e de' bestiami, e di tutti i lavori manuali.
12 Then Zerubbabel the son of She-alti-el, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him; and the people feared before the LORD.	12 E Zorobabel figliuolo di Salathiel, e Gesù figliuolo di Josedec sommo sacerdote, e tutte le reliquie del popolo udiron la voce del Signore Dio loro, e le parole di Aggeo profeta mandato ad essi dal Signore Dio loro: e il popolo temè il Signore.
13 Then Haggai, the messenger of the LORD, spoke to the people with the LORD's message, "I am with you, says the LORD."	13 E Aggeo, uno dei nunzi del Signore, disse al popolo: Il Signore ha detto: Io sono con voi.
14 And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of She-alti-el, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked on the house of the LORD of hosts, their God,	14 E il Signore avvivò lo spirito di Zorobabel figliuolo di Salathiel principe di Giuda, e lo spirito di Gesù figliuolo di Josedec sommo sacerdote, e lo spirito di tutto il rimanente del popolo, e andarono, e lavoravano attorno alla casa del Signor degli eserciti Dio loro.
15 on the twenty-fourth day of the month, in the sixth month.
