Zephaniah 1

1 The word of the LORD which came to Zephaniah the son of Cushi, son of Gedaliah, son of Amariah, son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah.	1 Verbum Domini, quod factum est ad Sophoniam filium Chusi filii Godoliaefilii Amariae filii Ezechiae, in diebus Iosiae filii Amon regis Iudae.
2 "I will utterly sweep away everything from the face of the earth," says the LORD.	2 “ Auferens auferam omnia a facie terrae, dicit Dominus,
3 "I will sweep away man and beast; I will sweep away the birds of the air and the fish of the sea. I will overthrow the wicked; I will cut off mankind from the face of the earth," says the LORD.	3 auferam hominem et pecus, auferam volatile caeli et pisces maris. Et ruinae impiorum erunt; et disperdam homines a facie terrae, dicit Dominus.
4 "I will stretch out my hand against Judah, and against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off from this place the remnant of Baal and the name of the idolatrous priests;	4 Et extendam manum meam super Iudam et super omnes habitantes Ierusalem; et disperdam de loco hoc reliquias Baal et nomina aedituorum cum sacerdotibus
5 those who bow down on the roofs to the host of the heavens; those who bow down and swear to the LORD and yet swear by Milcom;	5 et eos, qui adorant super tecta militiam caeli et adorant et iurant in Domino et iurant in Melchom,
6 those who have turned back from following the LORD, who do not seek the LORD or inquire of him."	6 et qui avertuntur de post tergum Domini, et qui non quaerunt Dominum nec investigant eum ”.
7 Be silent before the Lord GOD! For the day of the LORD is at hand; the LORD has prepared a sacrifice and consecrated his guests.	7 Silete a facie Domini Dei, quia iuxta est dies Domini; quia praeparavit Dominus hostiam, sanctificavit vocatos suos.
8 And on the day of the LORD's sacrifice--"I will punish the officials and the king's sons and all who array themselves in foreign attire.	8 “ Et erit in die hostiae Domini: visitabo super principes et super filios regis et super omnes, qui induti sunt veste peregrina;
9 On that day I will punish every one who leaps over the threshold, and those who fill their master's house with violence and fraud."	9 et visitabo super omnem, qui arroganter ingreditur super limen in die illa, qui complent domum domini sui iniquitate et dolo.
10 "On that day," says the LORD, "a cry will be heard from the Fish Gate, a wail from the Second Quarter, a loud crash from the hills.	10 Et erit in die illa, dicit Dominus, vox clamoris a porta Piscium, et ululatus ab urbe Nova, et contritio magna a collibus.
11 Wail, O inhabitants of the Mortar! For all the traders are no more; all who weigh out silver are cut off.	11 Ululate, habitatores Pilae, quia interiit omnis populus Chanaan, disperierunt omnes involuti argento.
12 At that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and I will punish the men who are thickening upon their lees, those who say in their hearts, 'The LORD will not do good, nor will he do ill.'	12 Et erit in tempore illo: scrutabor Ierusalem in lucernis et visitabo super viros defixos in faecibus suis, qui dicunt in cordibus suis: “Non faciet bene Dominus et non faciet male”.
13 Their goods shall be plundered, and their houses laid waste. Though they build houses, they shall not inhabit them; though they plant vineyards, they shall not drink wine from them."	13 Et erunt opes eorum in direptionem, et domus eorum in desertum; et aedificabunt domos et non habitabunt, et plantabunt vineas et non bibent vinum earum ”.
14 The great day of the LORD is near, near and hastening fast; the sound of the day of the LORD is bitter, the mighty man cries aloud there.	14 Iuxta est dies Domini magnus, iuxta et velox nimis; vox diei Domini amara, tribulabitur ibi fortis.
15 A day of wrath is that day, a day of distress and anguish, a day of ruin and devastation, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness,	15 Dies irae dies illa, dies tribulationis et angustiae, dies vastitatis et desolationis, dies tenebrarum et caliginis, dies nebulae et turbinis,
16 a day of trumpet blast and battle cry against the fortified cities and against the lofty battlements.	16 dies tubae et clangoris super civitates munitas et super angulos excelsos.
17 I will bring distress on men, so that they shall walk like the blind, because they have sinned against the LORD; their blood shall be poured out like dust, and their flesh like dung.	17 Et tribulabo homines, et ambulabunt ut caeci, quia Domino peccaverunt; et effundetur sanguis eorum sicut humus, et viscera eorum sicut stercora.
18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them on the day of the wrath of the LORD. In the fire of his jealous wrath, all the earth shall be consumed; for a full, yea, sudden end he will make of all the inhabitants of the earth.	18 Sed et argentum eorum et aurum eorum non poterit liberare eos in die irae Domini; in igne zeli eius devorabitur omnis terra, quia consummationem cum festinatione faciet cunctis habitantibus terram.
