1 And the people of Israel, the whole congregation, came into the wilderness of Zin in the first month, and the people stayed in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.	1 Vennero i figliuoli d'Israel, e tutta la moltitudine, nel deserto di Sin lo primo mese; e istettero il popolo in Cades; e ivi morio Maria (cioè sorella di Moisè), e ivi la sotterrarono.
2 Now there was no water for the congregation; and they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.	2 E abbisognando al popolo dell' acqua, vennero contro a Moisè ed Aaron.
3 And the people contended with Moses, and said, "Would that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD!	3 E convertiti in sedizione, dissero: Iddio l'avesse voluto, che noi fossimo morti coi nostri fratelli in presenza di Dio!
4 Why have you brought the assembly of the LORD into this wilderness, that we should die here, both we and our cattle?	4 Perchè ci avete menati in questa solitudine, acciò che muoiamo noi e le bestie nostre?
5 And why have you made us come up out of Egypt, to bring us to this evil place? It is no place for grain, or figs, or vines, or pomegranates; and there is no water to drink."	5 Perchè ci avete menati d'Egitto in questo luogo pessimo, dove non si puote seminare, non si ricoglie (nè azime) nè fiche nè uve nè melegrane, e acqua ancora non avemo da bevere?
6 Then Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the door of the tent of meeting, and fell on their faces. And the glory of the LORD appeared to them,	6 Andarono Moisè e Aaron, lasciata la moltitudine, allo tabernacolo santo; e inginocchiaronsi a Dio, e dissero; o Signore Iddio, esaudisci la voce di questo popolo, e apri loro le fonti dell' acqua viva, sicchè saziati cessino di mormorare. E (fatta la loro orazione a Dio, incontanente) apparve la gloria di Dio sopra loro.
7 and the LORD said to Moses,	7 E parlò Iddio a Moisè, e dissegli:
8 "Take the rod, and assemble the congregation, you and Aaron your brother, and tell the rock before their eyes to yield its water; so you shall bring water out of the rock for them; so you shall give drink to the congregation and their cattle."	8 Tuogli questa virga, tu e Aaron tuo fratello; e ragunate tutto il popolo, e parlate alla pietra in loro presenza, e ella vi darà dell' acqua; e quando voi averete avuto dell' acqua, sì ne berae tutta la moltitudine e le loro bestie.
9 And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.	9 Tolse Moisè la virga, la quale era nel cospetto di Dio, come Iddio gli avea comandato.
10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, "Hear now, you rebels; shall we bring forth water for you out of this rock?"	10 E congregata tutta la moltitudine innanzi alla pietra, sì disse loro: udite, ribelli e incredibili; non vi potremo noi dare di questa pietra, (secca e arida,) l'acqua viva?
11 And Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock with his rod twice; and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their cattle.	11 E alzando Moisè la virga due volte sopra la pietra, si ne uscì acqua in grande abbondanza, sì che tutto lo popolo ne bevè (in sazietà), e tutte le loro bestie.
12 And the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you did not believe in me, to sanctify me in the eyes of the people of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them."	12 Disse Iddio a Moisè e Aaron: perciò che non m' avete creduto, (e non m' avete obbedito) nè santificato dinanzi ai figliuoli d'Israel, non mette rete questo popolo nella terra, nella quale io gli debbo menare, e a loro dare.
13 These are the waters of Meribah, where the people of Israel contended with the LORD, and he showed himself holy among them.	13 Questa si è l'acqua della contraddizione dove i figliuoli d'Israel mormorarono contra Dio, e fu fra loro santificato.
14 Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, "Thus says your brother Israel: You know all the adversity that has befallen us:	14 E in questo tempo mandò Moisè i messi al re di Edom, i quali dicessero: questo vuole da te il tuo fratello Israel; tu sai quanta fatica abbiamo avuta,
15 how our fathers went down to Egypt, and we dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians dealt harshly with us and our fathers;	15 e come i nostri antichi andarono in Egitto, e abbiamo abitato ivi molto tempo, e quelli d'Egitto aftlissero noi e li padri nostri,
16 and when we cried to the LORD, he heard our voice, and sent an angel and brought us forth out of Egypt; and here we are in Kadesh, a city on the edge of your territory.	16 e come li nostri antichi chiamarono a Dio, ed egli esaudì, e mandò l'angelo suo il quale ci trasse d'Egitto; tu sai la città di Cades, la quale è nelle estreme parti del tuo regno.
17 Now let us pass through your land. We will not pass through field or vineyard, neither will we drink water from a well; we will go along the King's Highway, we will not turn aside to the right hand or to the left, until we have passed through your territory."	17 Preghianti che ci lassi passare per la terra tua. Noi non anderemo per le vigne nè per li campi; noi non bereremo acqua delli pozzi tuoi; ma anderemo per la via pubblica, non declinando nè alla parte ritta nè alla manca, per sino che noi passiamo i tuoi confini.
18 But Edom said to him, "You shall not pass through, lest I come out with the sword against you."	18 Ai quali respuose Edom: non passerete per lo mio; e se voi vorrete pur passare, io m’armerò (con tutta la gente mia), e farommivi incontro.
19 And the people of Israel said to him, "We will go up by the highway; and if we drink of your water, I and my cattle, then I will pay for it; let me only pass through on foot, nothing more."	19 E dissero i figliuoli d'Israel: noi ti promettiamo di non uscire della via battuta; e se bevessimo tua acqua, noi o nostre bestie, volemo pagare quello che vale, si che del prezzo non sarà discordia; e passeremo il più tosto che potremo.
20 But he said, "You shall not pass through." And Edom came out against them with many men, and with a strong force.	20 Ed egli rispuose: non voglio che passiate. E immantanente venne incontro con molta gente armata.
21 Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his territory; so Israel turned away from him.	21 E non volsero istare cheti a quelli che gli pregavano acciò che passassero per lo suo, per alcuno modo. Per la quale cosa Israel declino da lui.
22 And they journeyed from Kadesh, and the people of Israel, the whole congregation, came to Mount Hor.	22 E avendo mosso li loro abitacoli, si partirono di Cades; e vennero nel monte di Or, il quale è nella fine delle terre di Edom.
23 And the LORD said to Moses and Aaron at Mount Hor, on the border of the land of Edom,	23 Dove parlò Iddio a Moisè.
24 "Aaron shall be gathered to his people; for he shall not enter the land which I have given to the people of Israel, because you rebelled against my command at the waters of Meribah.	24 Vada, disse, Aaron al popolo suo; però che non entrerà nella terra, la quale io ho data ai figliuoli d'Israel; perciò che è stato incredibile al mio comandamento all'acque della contraddizione.
25 Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor;	25 Tolli Aaron, e i suoi figliuoli con lui, e menagli nel monte di Or.
26 and strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron shall be gathered to his people, and shall die there."	26 E quando tu averai tratte le vestimenta ad Aaron, mettile ad Eleazaro suo figliuolo; e Aaron si ricoglierà, e morrà ivi.
27 Moses did as the LORD commanded; and they went up Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.	27 E fece Moisè come comando Iddio; e andarono nel monte di Or in presenza di ogni moltitudine.
28 And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there on the top of the mountain. Then Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.	28 E ispogliossi Aaron le sue vestimenta, e vestille ad Eleazaro suo figliuolo.
29 And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, all the house of Israel wept for Aaron thirty days.	29 E come egli fue morto nella sommità del monte, discese Moisè con Eleazaro (di suso il monte).
	30 Tutto l'altro popolo, vedendo che Aaron fosse morto, piansero sopra il suo corpo trenta die, con tutte le loro famiglie.
