1 Now Korah the son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab, and On the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben,	1 En ce même temps, Corée, fils d'Isaar, qui était fils de Caath, comme Caath était fils de Lévi, Dathan et Abiron, fils d'Eliab, et Hon, fils de Phéleth, qui était l'un des fils de Ruben,
2 took men; and they rose up before Moses, with a number of the people of Israel, two hundred and fifty leaders of the congregation, chosen from the assembly, well-known men;	2 se soulevèrent contre Moïse, avec deux cent cinquante hommes des enfants d'Israël, qui étaient des principaux (princes) de la synagogue, et qui au temps des assemblées étaient appelés et distingués d'entre les autres par leur nom.
3 and they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said to them, "You have gone too far! For all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them; why then do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the LORD?"	3 S'étant donc soulevés contre Moïse et contre Aaron, ils leur dirent : Que cela vous suffise ! car tout le peuple est un peuple de saints, et le Seigneur est avec eux. Pourquoi vous élevez-vous au-dessus du peuple du Seigneur ?
4 When Moses heard it, he fell on his face;	4 Ce que Moïse ayant entendu, il se jeta le visage contre terre (tomba incliné sur sa face),
5 and he said to Korah and all his company, "In the morning the LORD will show who is his, and who is holy, and will cause him to come near to him; him whom he will choose he will cause to come near to him.	5 et dit à Coré et à toute sa troupe : Demain matin, le Seigneur fera connaître quels sont ceux qui lui appartiennent. Il joindra à lui ceux qui sont saints, et ceux qu'il a élus s'approcheront de lui.
6 Do this: take censers, Korah and all his company;	6 Faites donc ceci : Que chacun prenne son encensoir, toi, Coré, et toute ta troupe (ton conseil) ;
7 put fire in them and put incense upon them before the LORD tomorrow, and the man whom the LORD chooses shall be the holy one. You have gone too far, sons of Levi!"	7 et demain, ayant pris du feu, vous offrirez de l'encens devant le Seigneur ; et celui-là sera saint que le Seigneur aura lui-même choisi. Vous vous élevez beaucoup, enfants (fils) de Lévi.
8 And Moses said to Korah, "Hear now, you sons of Levi:	8 Il dit encore à Coré : Ecoutez, enfants (fils) de Lévi.
9 is it too small a thing for you that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself, to do service in the tabernacle of the LORD, and to stand before the congregation to minister to them;	9 Est-ce peu de chose pour vous, que le Dieu d'Israël vous ait séparés de tout le peuple, et vous ait joints à lui pour le servir dans le culte du tabernacle, et pour que vous vous teniez devant tout le peuple, en faisant les fonctions de votre ministère (pour le Seigneur) ?
10 and that he has brought you near him, and all your brethren the sons of Levi with you? And would you seek the priesthood also?	10 Est-ce pour cela qu'il t'a fait approcher de lui, toi et tous tes frères les enfants de Lévi, afin que vous usurpiez même le sacerdoce,
11 Therefore it is against the LORD that you and all your company have gathered together; what is Aaron that you murmur against him?"	11 et que toute ta troupe se soulève contre le Seigneur ? Car qui est Aaron pour être l'objet de vos murmures ?
12 And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab; and they said, "We will not come up.	12 Moïse envoya donc appeler Dathan et Abiron, fils d'Eliab, qui répondirent : Nous n'irons point.
13 Is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, that you must also make yourself a prince over us?	13 Ne vous doit-il pas suffire que vous nous ayez fait sortir d'une terre où coulaient le lait et le miel, pour nous faire périr dans ce désert, sans vouloir encore nous commander avec empire ?
14 Moreover you have not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards. Will you put out the eyes of these men? We will not come up."	14 En vérité, vous nous avez tenu parole, en nous faisant entrer dans une terre où coulent le lait et le miel, en nous donnant des champs et des vignes pour les posséder ? (.) Voudriez-vous encore nous arracher les yeux ? Nous n'irons point.
15 And Moses was very angry, and said to the LORD, "Do not respect their offering. I have not taken one ass from them, and I have not harmed one of them."	15 Moïse, entrant donc dans une grande colère, dit au Seigneur : Ne regardez point leurs sacrifices. Vous savez que je n'ai jamais rien reçu d'eux, pas même un ânon, et que je n'ai jamais fait tort à aucun d'eux.
16 And Moses said to Korah, "Be present, you and all your company, before the LORD, you and they, and Aaron, tomorrow;	16 Et il dit à Coré : Présentez-vous demain, toi et toute ta troupe, d'un côté, devant le Seigneur, et Aaron s'y présentera de l'autre.
17 and let every one of you take his censer, and put incense upon it, and every one of you bring before the LORD his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; you also, and Aaron, each his censer."	17 Prenez chacun vos encensoirs, et mettez-y de l'encens, offrant au Seigneur deux cent cinquante encensoirs ; et qu'Aaron tienne aussi son encensoir.
18 So every man took his censer, and they put fire in them and laid incense upon them, and they stood at the entrance of the tent of meeting with Moses and Aaron.	18 Ce que Coré et sa troupe ayant fait, le lendemain, en présence de Moïse et d'Aaron,
19 Then Korah assembled all the congregation against them at the entrance of the tent of meeting. And the glory of the LORD appeared to all the congregation.	19 et ayant assemblé tout le peuple contre eux à l'entrée du tabernacle, la gloire du Seigneur apparut à tous.
20 And the LORD said to Moses and to Aaron,	20 (Et) Le Seigneur parla à Moïse et à Aaron, et leur dit :
21 "Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment."	21 Séparez-vous du milieu de cette assemblée, afin que je les perde tout d'un coup.
22 And they fell on their faces, and said, "O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be angry with all the congregation?"	22 Moïse et Aaron se jetèrent le visage contre terre (tombèrent inclinés sur leur face), et ils dirent : O (Tout-Puissant, ô) Dieu (très fort) des esprits qui animent toute chair (de toute chair, note), votre colère éclatera-t-elle contre tous pour le péché d'un seul homme ?
23 And the LORD said to Moses,	23 Le Seigneur dit à Moïse :
24 "Say to the congregation, Get away from about the dwelling of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram."	24 Commande à tout le peuple de se séparer des tentes de Coré, de Dathan et d'Abiron.
25 Then Moses rose and went to Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him.	25 Moïse se leva donc, et s'en alla donc aux tentes de Dathan et d'Abiron, suivi des anciens d'Israël ;
26 And he said to the congregation, "Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest you be swept away with all their sins."	26 et il dit au peuple : Retirez-vous des tentes des (de ces) hommes impies, et prenez garde de ne pas toucher à aucune chose qui leur appartienne, de peur que vous ne soyez enveloppés dans leurs péchés.
27 So they got away from about the dwelling of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram; and Dathan and Abiram came out and stood at the door of their tents, together with their wives, their sons, and their little ones.	27 (Or) Lorsqu'ils se furent retirés de tous les environs de leurs tentes, Dathan et Abiron, sortant dehors, se tenaient à l'entrée de leurs pavillons avec leurs femmes et leurs enfants, et toute leur troupe (les leurs).
28 And Moses said, "Hereby you shall know that the LORD has sent me to do all these works, and that it has not been of my own accord.	28 Alors Moïse dit au peuple : Vous reconnaîtrez à ceci que c'est le Seigneur qui m'a envoyé pour faire tout ce que vous voyez, et que ce n'est point moi qui l'ai tiré de mon propre cœur (esprit).
29 If these men die the common death of all men, or if they are visited by the fate of all men, then the LORD has not sent me.	29 Si ces gens meurent d'une mort ordinaire aux hommes, et s'ils sont frappés d'une plaie dont les autres ont coutume d'être aussi frappés, ce n'est point le Seigneur qui m'a envoyé ;
30 But if the LORD creates something new, and the ground opens its mouth, and swallows them up, with all that belongs to them, and they go down alive into Sheol, then you shall know that these men have despised the LORD."	30 mais si le Seigneur, par un prodige (chose) nouveau(elle), fait que la terre, s'entrouvrant, les engloutisse avec tout ce qui est à eux, et qu'ils descendent tout vivants en enfer, vous saurez alors qu'ils ont blasphémé contre le Seigneur.
31 And as he finished speaking all these words, the ground under them split asunder;	31 Aussitôt donc qu'il eut cessé de parler, la terre se fendit sous leurs pieds,
32 and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, with their households and all the men that belonged to Korah and all their goods.	32 et, s'entrouvrant, elle les dévora avec leurs tentes, et tout ce qui était à eux.
33 So they and all that belonged to them went down alive into Sheol; and the earth closed over them, and they perished from the midst of the assembly.	33 Ils descendirent tout vivants dans l'enfer, recouverts de (par la) terre, et ils périrent du milieu du peuple.
34 And all Israel that were round about them fled at their cry; for they said, "Lest the earth swallow us up!"	34 (Cependant) Tout Israël, qui était là autour, s'enfuit au cri des mourants, en disant : Craignons que la terre ne nous engloutisse aussi.
35 And fire came forth from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men offering the incense.	35 En même temps, le Seigneur fit sortir un feu qui tua les deux cent cinquante hommes qui offraient de l'encens.
36 Then the LORD said to Moses,	36 Et le Seigneur parla à Moïse, et lui dit :
37 "Tell Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest to take up the censers out of the blaze; then scatter the fire far and wide. For they are holy,	37 Ordonne au prêtre Eléazar, fils d'Aaron de prendre les encensoirs qui sont demeurés au milieu de l'embrasement, et d'en jeter le feu de côté et d'autre, parce qu'ils ont été sanctifiés
38 the censers of these men who have sinned at the cost of their lives; so let them be made into hammered plates as a covering for the altar, for they offered them before the LORD; therefore they are holy. Thus they shall be a sign to the people of Israel."	38 dans (par) la mort des pécheurs ; et après qu'il les aura réduits en lames, qu'il les attache à l'autel, parce qu'on y a offert de l'encens au Seigneur, et qu'ils ont été sanctifiés ; afin qu'ils soient comme un signe et un monument exposé (sans cesse) aux yeux des enfants d'Israël.
39 So Eleazar the priest took the bronze censers, which those who were burned had offered; and they were hammered out as a covering for the altar,	39 Le prêtre Eléazar prit donc les encensoirs d'airain dans lesquels ceux qui furent dévorés par l'embrasement avaient offert de l'encens, et, les ayant fait réduire en lames, il les attacha à l'autel,
40 to be a reminder to the people of Israel, so that no one who is not a priest, who is not of the descendants of Aaron, should draw near to burn incense before the LORD, lest he become as Korah and as his company--as the LORD said to Eleazar through Moses.	40 pour servir désormais d'avertissement aux enfants d'Israël ; afin que nul étranger ou tout autre n'appartenant pas à la race d'Aaron n'entreprenne de s'approcher du Seigneur pour lui offrir de l'encens, de peur qu'il ne souffre la même peine qu'a soufferte Coré et toute sa troupe, selon que le Seigneur l'avait prédit à Moïse.
41 But on the morrow all the congregation of the people of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, "You have killed the people of the LORD."	41 (Or) Le lendemain, toute la multitude des enfants d'Israël murmura contre Moïse et Aaron, en disant : C'est vous qui avez tué le peuple du Seigneur.
42 And when the congregation had assembled against Moses and against Aaron, they turned toward the tent of meeting; and behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared.	42 Et comme la sédition se formait, et que le tumulte s'augmentait,
43 And Moses and Aaron came to the front of the tent of meeting,	43 Moïse et Aaron s'enfuirent au tabernacle de l'alliance. Lorsqu'ils y furent entrés, la nuée les couvrit, et la gloire du Seigneur apparut.
44 and the LORD said to Moses,	44 Et le Seigneur dit à Moïse :
45 "Get away from the midst of this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment." And they fell on their faces.	45 Retirez-vous du milieu de cette multitude ; je vais les exterminer immédiatement. Et tandis qu'ils étaient prosternés contre terre,
46 And Moses said to Aaron, "Take your censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and lay incense on it, and carry it quickly to the congregation, and make atonement for them; for wrath has gone forth from the LORD, the plague has begun."	46 Moïse dit à Aaron : Prends ton encensoir, mets-y du feu de l'autel et l'encens par-dessus, et va vite vers le peuple, afin de prier pour lui ; car la colère est déjà sortie du trône de Dieu, et la plaie commence à éclater.
47 So Aaron took it as Moses said, and ran into the midst of the assembly; and behold, the plague had already begun among the people; and he put on the incense, and made atonement for the people.	47 Aaron fit ce que Moïse lui commandait ; il courut au milieu du peuple que le feu embrasait déjà, il offrit l'encens,
48 And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stopped.	48 et se tenant debout entre les morts et les vivants, il pria pour le peuple, et la plaie cessa.
49 Now those who died by the plague were fourteen thousand seven hundred, besides those who died in the affair of Korah.	49 (Or) Le nombre de ceux qui furent frappés de cette plaie fut de quatorze mille sept cents hommes, sans compter ceux qui avaient péri dans la sédition de Coré.
50 And Aaron returned to Moses at the entrance of the tent of meeting, when the plague was stopped.	50 Et Aaron revint trouver Moïse à l'entrée du tabernacle de l'alliance, après que la mort se fut arrêtée.
