Ezekiel 17

1 The word of the LORD came to me:	1 E il Signore mi parlò e mi disse:
2 "Son of man, propound a riddle, and speak an allegory to the house of Israel;	2 « Figlio dell'uomo, proponi un enimma e racconta una parabola alla casa d'Israele.
3 say, Thus says the Lord GOD: A great eagle with great wings and long pinions, rich in plumage of many colors, came to Lebanon and took the top of the cedar;	3 Dirai: Questo cose dice il Signore Dio: Un'aquila enorme, con ali grandi, membra smisurate, e piena di penne a varii colori, piombò sul Libano e portò via la midolla del cedro;
4 he broke off the topmost of its young twigs and carried it to a land of trade, and set it in a city of merchants.	4 strappò le punte dei suoi rami e le portò nella terra di Canaan, e le pose in una città di mercanti.
5 Then he took of the seed of the land and planted it in fertile soil; he placed it beside abundant waters. He set it like a willow twig,	5 E prese del seme di quella terra e lo seminò in terreno da seme, perchè stabilisse le sue radici sopra grandi acque; ma lo seminò sopra sopra.
6 and it sprouted and became a low spreading vine, and its branches turned toward him, and its roots remained where it stood. So it became a vine, and brought forth branches and put forth foliage.	6 Quando germogliò crebbe in estesa vite poco elevata: i suoi rami si volgevano all'aquila, e sotto di lei erano le sue radici. Così diventò una vigna, e produsse tralci, e gettò propagini.
7 "But there was another great eagle with great wings and much plumage; and behold, this vine bent its roots toward him, and shot forth its branches toward him that he might water it. From the bed where it was planted	7 E c'era un'altra aquila enorme, con ali grandi e molte penne, ed ecco che questa vigna rivolse verso di lei le sue radici, stese verso di lei i suoi tralci perchè la irrigasse (coll'acqua) dei suoi vivai.
8 he transplanted it to good soil by abundant waters, that it might bring forth branches, and bear fruit, and become a noble vine.	8 Era piantata in buon terreno, lungo molte acque da poter fare fronde e portar frutto e diventare una gran vigna.
9 Say, Thus says the Lord GOD: Will it thrive? Will he not pull up its roots and cut off its branches, so that all its fresh sprouting leaves wither? It will not take a strong arm or many people to pull it from its roots.	9 Di': Così parla il Signore Dio: Dunque prospererà? Non sbarberà le sue radici, non abbatterà i suoi frutti, non farà seccare tutti i tralci da lei gettati, ed essa non seccherà, senza che ci sia bisogno di gran braccio o di molta gente per schiantarla dalle radici?
10 Behold, when it is transplanted, will it thrive? Will it not utterly wither when the east wind strikes it--wither away on the bed where it grew?"	10 E cco è piantata; ma prospererà? Se la tocca il vento che brucia, non seccherà, non seccherà anche nelle aiole ove ha germogliato? ».
11 Then the word of the LORD came to me:	11 É il Signore mi parlò e mi disse:
12 "Say now to the rebellious house, Do you not know what these things mean? Tell them, Behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and took her king and her princes and brought them to him to Babylon.	12 « Di' alla casa ribelle: Non sapete il significato di queste cose? Di': Ecco che il re di Babilonia viene a Gerusalemme, e prenderà il re e i suoi principi e li menerà con sè a Babilonia;
13 And he took one of the seed royal and made a covenant with him, putting him under oath. (The chief men of the land he had taken away,	13 e prenderà uno della stirpe reale, e farà con lui alleanza, e riceverà da lui il giuramento; ma porterà via anche i forti del paese,
14 that the kingdom might be humble and not lift itself up, and that by keeping his covenant it might stand.)	14 perchè il regno resti umile, non s'innalzi, mantenga e osservi l'alleanza.
15 But he rebelled against him by sending ambassadors to Egypt, that they might give him horses and a large army. Will he succeed? Can a man escape who does such things? Can he break the covenant and yet escape?	15 Ma egli, ritirandosi da lui, ha mandato ambasciatori all'Egitto, per aver da lui cavalli e molta gente. Prospererà? Potrà salvarsi chi fece tali cose? Chi rompe l'alleanza potrà aver scampo?
16 As I live, says the Lord GOD, surely in the place where the king dwells who made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant with him he broke, in Babylon he shall die.	16 Io vivo — dice il Signore Dio: — è nel luogo del re che l'ha fatto re a cui non ha mantenuto il giuramento, e violato il patto fatto con lui, è nel mezzo di Babilonia che egli morrà.
17 Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company will not help him in war, when mounds are cast up and siege walls built to cut off many lives.	17 E il Faraone non verrà con grande esercito e con molta gente a guerreggiare contro di lui, quando saranno alzati i terrapieni e fatte le trincee per uccidere molta gente;
18 Because he despised the oath and broke the covenant, because he gave his hand and yet did all these things, he shall not escape.	18 perchè egli ha disprezzato il giuramento, ha rotta l'alleanza, ed ecco diede la sua mano. Avendo fatto tutto questo, non avrà scampo.
19 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: As I live, surely my oath which he despised, and my covenant which he broke, I will requite upon his head.	19 Per questo così dice il Signore Dio: Io vivo: il giuramento che ha disprezzato, e il patto che ha violato io lo farò ricadere sopra il suo capo;
20 I will spread my net over him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon and enter into judgment with him there for the treason he has committed against me.	20 e stenderò sopra di lui la mia rete, egli sarà preso al mio laccio, e lo condurrò a Babilonia, ed ivi lo giudicherò per la prevaricazione colla quale mi ha disprezzato.
21 And all the pick of his troops shall fall by the sword, and the survivors shall be scattered to every wind; and you shall know that I, the LORD, have spoken."	21 E tutti i suoi che fuggiranno, con tutto il suo esercito cadran sotto la spada, e quelli che resteranno saran dispersi a tutti i venti; e conoscerete che io, il Signore, ho parlato ».
22 Thus says the Lord GOD: "I myself will take a sprig from the lofty top of the cedar, and will set it out; I will break off from the topmost of its young twigs a tender one, and I myself will plant it upon a high and lofty mountain;	22 Queste cose dice il Signore Dio: « Io poi prenderò la midolla del cedro sublime e la sotterrerò, e taglierò dalla vetta dei suoi rami un tenero arboscello, e lo pianterò sopra un monte alto ed elevato.
23 on the mountain height of Israel will I plant it, that it may bring forth boughs and bear fruit, and become a noble cedar; and under it will dwell all kinds of beasts; in the shade of its branches birds of every sort will nest.	23 Lo pianterò sul monte sublime d'Israele, e getterà germogli, e porterà frutti, e diventerà un gran cedro, e sotto di lui staranno tutti gli uccelli, e tutti i volatili faranno il nido all'ombra delle sue frondi.
24 And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD bring low the high tree, and make high the low tree, dry up the green tree, and make the dry tree flourish. I the LORD have spoken, and I will do it."	24 E tutti gli alberi della regione conosceranno che io, il Signore, ho umiliato l'albero sublime ed ho esaltata l'umile pianta, ho fatto seccare il legno verde e il legno secco l'ho rivestito di fronde. Io, il Signore, ho parlato e ho fatto ».
