Jeremiah 51

1 Thus says the LORD: "Behold, I will stir up the spirit of a destroyer against Babylon, against the inhabitants of Chaldea;	1 Ainsi parle Yahvé: Je vais faire se lever contre Babylone et contre les habitants de Leb-Qamaï unvent destructeur.
2 and I will send to Babylon winnowers, and they shall winnow her, and they shall empty her land, when they come against her from every side on the day of trouble.	2 J'enverrai à Babylone des vanneurs pour la vanner et nettoyer son territoire, car on va l'assiéger detous côtés au jour du malheur. --
3 Let not the archer bend his bow, and let him not stand up in his coat of mail. Spare not her young men; utterly destroy all her host.	3 Qu'aucun archer ne bande son arc! Qu'on cesse de se pavaner dans sa cuirasse! -- Pas de quartierpour ses jeunes! Exterminez son armée entière!
4 They shall fall down slain in the land of the Chaldeans, and wounded in her streets.	4 Des victimes tomberont au pays des Chaldéens, des transpercés dans les rues de Babylone.
5 For Israel and Judah have not been forsaken by their God, the LORD of hosts; but the land of the Chaldeans is full of guilt against the Holy One of Israel.	5 Car Israël et Juda ne sont pas veuves de leur Dieu, Yahvé Sabaot, bien que leur pays soit plein depéché contre le Saint d'Israël.
6 "Flee from the midst of Babylon, let every man save his life! Be not cut off in her punishment, for this is the time of the LORD's vengeance, the requital he is rendering her.	6 Fuyez du milieu de Babylone (et sauvez chacun votre vie); ne périssez pas pour son crime car c'estle temps de la vengeance pour Yahvé: il va lui payer son dû!
7 Babylon was a golden cup in the LORD's hand, making all the earth drunken; the nations drank of her wine, therefore the nations went mad.	7 Babylone était une coupe d'or aux mains de Yahvé, elle enivrait la terre entière, les nationss'abreuvaient de son vin c'est pourquoi elles devenaient folles.
8 Suddenly Babylon has fallen and been broken; wail for her! Take balm for her pain; perhaps she may be healed.	8 Soudain Babylone est tombée, s'est brisée: hululez sur elle! Prenez du baume pour son mal: peut-être va-t-elle guérir! --
9 We would have healed Babylon, but she was not healed. Forsake her, and let us go each to his own country; for her judgment has reached up to heaven and has been lifted up even to the skies.	9 "Nous voulions guérir Babylone, elle n'a pas guéri; Laissez-la! Allons-nous en, chacun dans sonpays" -- Oui, le jugement qui la frappe atteint jusqu'au ciel, il s'élève jusqu'aux nues.
10 The LORD has brought forth our vindication; come, let us declare in Zion the work of the LORD our God.	10 Yahvé a fait éclater notre justice. Venez! Racontons dans Sion l'oeuvre de Yahvé notre Dieu.
11 "Sharpen the arrows! Take up the shields! The LORD has stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes, because his purpose concerning Babylon is to destroy it, for that is the vengeance of the LORD, the vengeance for his temple.	11 Affûtez les flèches, emplissez les carquois! Yahvé a excité l'esprit des rois des Mèdes, car il aformé contre Babylone le projet de la détruire: c'est la vengeance de Yahvé, la vengeance de son Temple.
12 Set up a standard against the walls of Babylon; make the watch strong; set up watchmen; prepare the ambushes; for the LORD has both planned and done what he spoke concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.	12 Contre les remparts de Babylone, levez l'étendard! Renforcez la garde! Postez des sentinelles!Dressez des embuscades! Car Yahvé a encore un projet, et il fait ce qu'il a dit contre les habitants de Babylone.
13 O you who dwell by many waters, rich in treasures, your end has come, the thread of your life is cut.	13 Toi qui sièges au bord des grandes eaux, toi, riche en trésors, ta fin est arrivée, le terme de tesrapines.
14 The LORD of hosts has sworn by himself: Surely I will fill you with men, as many as locusts, and they shall raise the shout of victory over you.	14 Yahvé Sabaot l'a juré par lui-même: Je te remplirai d'hommes comme de sauterelles, et contre toi,ils pousseront un cri de triomphe.
15 "It is he who made the earth by his power, who established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding stretched out the heavens.	15 Il a fait la terre par sa puissance, établi le monde par sa sagesse et par son intelligence étendu lescieux.
16 When he utters his voice there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and he makes the mist rise from the ends of the earth. He makes lightnings for the rain, and he brings forth the wind from his storehouses.	16 Quand il donne de la voix, c'est un mugissement d'eaux dans le ciel, il fait monter les nuages dubout de la terre; il produit les éclairs pour l'averse et tire le vent de ses réservoirs.
17 Every man is stupid and without knowledge; every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols; for his images are false, and there is no breath in them.	17 Alors tout homme se tient stupide, sans comprendre, chaque orfèvre rougit de ses idoles. Ce qu'ila coulé n'est que mensonge, en elles, pas de souffle!
18 They are worthless, a work of delusion; at the time of their punishment they shall perish.	18 Elles sont vanité, oeuvre ridicule, au temps de leur châtiment, elles disparaîtront.
19 Not like these is he who is the portion of Jacob, for he is the one who formed all things, and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance; the LORD of hosts is his name.	19 La "Part de Jacob" n'est pas comme elles, car il a façonné l'univers et Israël est la tribu de sonhéritage. Son nom est Yahvé Sabaot.
20 "You are my hammer and weapon of war: with you I break nations in pieces; with you I destroy kingdoms;	20 Tu fus un marteau à mon usage, une arme de guerre. Avec toi j'ai martelé des nations, avec toi j'aidétruit des royaumes,
21 with you I break in pieces the horse and his rider; with you I break in pieces the chariot and the charioteer;	21 avec toi j'ai martelé cheval et cavalier, avec toi j'ai martelé char et charrier,
22 with you I break in pieces man and woman; with you I break in pieces the old man and the youth; with you I break in pieces the young man and the maiden;	22 avec toi j'ai martelé homme et femme, avec toi j'ai martelé vieillard et enfant, avec toi j'ai marteléadolescent et vierge,
23 with you I break in pieces the shepherd and his flock; with you I break in pieces the farmer and his team; with you I break in pieces governors and commanders.	23 avec toi j'ai martelé berger et troupeau, avec toi j'ai martelé laboureur et attelage, avec toi j'aimartelé gouverneurs et magistrats,
24 "I will requite Babylon and all the inhabitants of Chaldea before your very eyes for all the evil that they have done in Zion, says the LORD.	24 mais je ferai payer à Babylone et à tous les habitants de la Chaldée tout le mal qu'ils ont fait àSion, sous vos yeux, oracle de Yahvé.
25 "Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain, says the LORD, which destroys the whole earth; I will stretch out my hand against you, and roll you down from the crags, and make you a burnt mountain.	25 C'est à toi que j'en ai, montagne de la destruction -- oracle de Yahvé -- la destructrice del'univers! Je vais étendre contre toi ma main, te faire rouler du haut des rochers, te changer en montagneembrasée.
26 No stone shall be taken from you for a corner and no stone for a foundation, but you shall be a perpetual waste, says the LORD.	26 On ne tirera plus de toi ni pierre d'angle ni pierre de fondation, car tu deviendras une désolationpour toujours, oracle de Yahvé.
27 "Set up a standard on the earth, blow the trumpet among the nations; prepare the nations for war against her, summon against her the kingdoms, Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz; appoint a marshal against her, bring up horses like bristling locusts.	27 Levez l'étendard sur la terre, sonnez du cor parmi les nations! Vouez les nations contre elle,convoquez contre elle des royaumes, -- Ararat, Minni et Ashkenaz -- instituez contre elle l'officier d'enrôlement.Faites donner la cavalerie, horde de sauterelles hérissées.
28 Prepare the nations for war against her, the kings of the Medes, with their governors and deputies, and every land under their dominion.	28 Vouez des nations contre elle: les rois de Médie, ses gouverneurs, tous ses magistrats et tout lepays en sa possession.
29 The land trembles and writhes in pain, for the LORD's purposes against Babylon stand, to make the land of Babylon a desolation, without inhabitant.	29 La terre trembla et frémit. C'est que s'exécutait contre Babylone le plan de Yahvé: changer leterritoire de Babylone en solitude sans habitants.
30 The warriors of Babylon have ceased fighting, they remain in their strongholds; their strength has failed, they have become women; her dwellings are on fire, her bars are broken.	30 Les vaillants de Babylone ont cessé le combat, ils se sont blottis dans les citadelles; leur vaillanceest à bout, ils sont devenus des femmes. On a mis le feu à ses habitations, ses verrous sont en pièces.
31 One runner runs to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to tell the king of Babylon that his city is taken on every side;	31 Le courrier court à la rencontre du courrier, le messager à la rencontre du messager, pourannoncer au roi de Babylone que sa ville est enlevée de tous côtés,
32 the fords have been seized, the bulwarks are burned with fire, and the soldiers are in panic.	32 les passages occupés, les redoutes incendiées et les hommes de guerre pris de panique.
33 For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor at the time when it is trodden; yet a little while and the time of her harvest will come."	33 Car ainsi parle Yahvé Sabaot, le Dieu d'Israël: La fille de Babylone est pareille à une aire autemps où on la foule: encore un peu, et ce sera pour elle le temps de la moisson.
34 "Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me, he has crushed me; he has made me an empty vessel, he has swallowed me like a monster; he has filled his belly with my delicacies, he has rinsed me out.	34 Il m'a dévorée, consommée, Nabuchodonosor, le roi de Babylone, il m'a laissée comme un platvide, il m'a engloutie tel le Dragon, il a empli son ventre de mes bons morceaux, il m'a chassée.
35 The violence done to me and to my kinsmen be upon Babylon," let the inhabitant of Zion say. "My blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea," let Jerusalem say.	35 "Sur Babylone la violence et les blessures que j'ai subies!" dit l'habitante de Sion. "Sur leshabitants de Chaldée mon sang!" dit Jérusalem.
36 Therefore thus says the LORD: "Behold, I will plead your cause and take vengeance for you. I will dry up her sea and make her fountain dry;	36 C'est pourquoi ainsi parle Yahvé: Voici, je prends en main ta cause et j'assure ta vengeance. Jevais assécher son fleuve et tarir ses sources.
37 and Babylon shall become a heap of ruins, the haunt of jackals, a horror and a hissing, without inhabitant.	37 Babylone deviendra un tas de pierres, un repaire de chacals, un objet d'épouvante et de dérision,sans plus d'habitants.
38 "They shall roar together like lions; they shall growl like lions' whelps.	38 Tels des lions, ils rugissent ensemble, ils grondent pareils à des lionceaux.
39 While they are inflamed I will prepare them a feast and make them drunk, till they swoon away and sleep a perpetual sleep and not wake, says the LORD.	39 Ils ont chaud? Je leur apprête un breuvage, je les ferai boire afin qu'ils soient en joie, qu'ilss'endorment d'un sommeil éternel et ne puissent plus s'éveiller -- oracle de Yahvé.
40 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams and he-goats.	40 Je les ferai descendre comme des agneaux à l'abattoir, comme des béliers et des boucs.
41 "How Babylon is taken, the praise of the whole earth seized! How Babylon has become a horror among the nations!	41 Comment Shéshak a-t-elle été prise, comment a-t-elle été conquise, la fierté du monde entier?Comment est-elle devenue une épouvante, Babylone parmi les nations?
42 The sea has come up on Babylon; she is covered with its tumultuous waves.	42 Contre Babylone la mer est montée, ses flots tumultueux l'ont submergée.
43 Her cities have become a horror, a land of drought and a desert, a land in which no one dwells, and through which no son of man passes.	43 Ses villes sont changées en désolation, en terre aride et en steppe, terre où personne n'habite et oùne passe plus un homme.
44 And I will punish Bel in Babylon, and take out of his mouth what he has swallowed. The nations shall no longer flow to him; the wall of Babylon has fallen.	44 Je visiterai Bel dans Babylone et lui retirerai de la bouche ce qu'il a englouti. Vers lui n'affluerontplus les nations, désormais. Et même le rempart de Babylone tombera.
45 "Go out of the midst of her, my people! Let every man save his life from the fierce anger of the LORD!	45 Sors de son enceinte, mon peuple! Que chacun de vous sauve sa vie devant l'ardente colère deYahvé!
46 Let not your heart faint, and be not fearful at the report heard in the land, when a report comes in one year and afterward a report in another year, and violence is in the land, and ruler is against ruler.	46 Mais que votre coeur ne défaille point! Ne vous effrayez pas de la nouvelle colportée dans lepays: une année, tel bruit se répand, et puis l'année d'après, tel autre; la violence triomphe sur la terre et un tyransuccède au tyran.
47 "Therefore, behold, the days are coming when I will punish the images of Babylon; her whole land shall be put to shame, and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.	47 En effet, voici venir des jours où je visiterai les idoles de Babylone. Son territoire entier sera dansla honte et tous ses tués gisant dans son sein.
48 Then the heavens and the earth, and all that is in them, shall sing for joy over Babylon; for the destroyers shall come against them out of the north, says the LORD.	48 Alors pousseront des cris contre Babylone le ciel et la terre et tout ce qu'ils renferment, car duNord arrivent contre elle les dévastateurs, oracle de Yahvé!
49 Babylon must fall for the slain of Israel, as for Babylon have fallen the slain of all the earth.	49 Babylone à son tour doit tomber, ô vous, tués d'Israël, de même que par Babylone tombèrent destués de la terre entière.
50 "You that have escaped from the sword, go, stand not still! Remember the LORD from afar, and let Jerusalem come into your mind:	50 Vous qui avez échappé à l'épée, partez! Ne vous arrêtez pas! Au loin, souvenez-vous de Yahvé etque Jérusalem soit présente à votre coeur! --
51 'We are put to shame, for we have heard reproach; dishonor has covered our face, for aliens have come into the holy places of the LORD's house.'	51 "Nous étions dans la honte, entendant l'insulte, nous étions couverts de confusion, car desétrangers étaient venus dans les sanctuaires du Temple de Yahvé" --
52 "Therefore, behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will execute judgment upon her images, and through all her land the wounded shall groan.	52 Eh bien! Voici venir des jours -- oracle de Yahvé -- où je visiterai ses idoles, et dans tout sonterritoire gémiront ceux qu'on tue.
53 Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify her strong height, yet destroyers would come from me upon her, says the LORD.	53 Babylone escaladerait-elle le ciel, renforcerait-elle sa citadelle inaccessible, sur mon ordre luiviendront des dévastateurs -- oracle de Yahvé.
54 "Hark! a cry from Babylon! The noise of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!	54 Bruit d'une clameur qui sort de Babylone, d'un grand désastre, du pays des Chaldéens!
55 For the LORD is laying Babylon waste, and stilling her mighty voice. Their waves roar like many waters, the noise of their voice is raised;	55 Car Yahvé dévaste Babylone, il fait cesser son grand bruit, celui des flots qui grondaient commeles grandes eaux quand le tumulte de leur voix retentissait.
56 for a destroyer has come upon her, upon Babylon; her warriors are taken, their bows are broken in pieces; for the LORD is a God of recompense, he will surely requite.	56 Car un dévastateur est venu contre elle, contre Babylone, ses héros sont faits captifs, leurs arcssont brisés. Oui, Yahvé est le Dieu des représailles: il paie sûrement!
57 I will make drunk her princes and her wise men, her governors, her commanders, and her warriors; they shall sleep a perpetual sleep and not wake, says the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.	57 Je ferai boire ses princes et ses sages, ses gouverneurs, ses magistrats et ses héros; ilss'endormiront d'un sommeil éternel et ne s'éveilleront plus, oracle du Roi dont le nom est Yahvé Sabaot...!
58 "Thus says the LORD of hosts: The broad wall of Babylon shall be leveled to the ground and her high gates shall be burned with fire. The peoples labor for nought, and the nations weary themselves only for fire."	58 Ainsi parle Yahvé Sabaot: Les remparts de Babylone la grande seront vraiment démantelés et seshautes portes brûlées. Ainsi les peuples ont-ils peiné pour le néant, les nations se sont épuisées pour du feu.
59 The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, son of Mahseiah, when he went with Zedekiah king of Judah to Babylon, in the fourth year of his reign. Seraiah was the quartermaster.	59 Voici l'ordre que donna le prophète Jérémie à Seraya, fils de Nériyya, fils de Mahséya, quandcelui-ci partit pour Babylone avec Sédécias, roi de Juda, en la quatrième année de son règne. Seraya était grandchambellan.
60 Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that should come upon Babylon, all these words that are written concerning Babylon.	60 Jérémie avait mis par écrit dans un seul livre tout le malheur qui devait survenir à Babylone,toutes ces paroles qui avaient été écrites contre Babylone.
61 And Jeremiah said to Seraiah: "When you come to Babylon, see that you read all these words,	61 Jérémie dit donc à Seraya: "Quand tu arriveras à Babylone, tu auras soin de lire toutes cesparoles-là.
62 and say, 'O LORD, thou hast said concerning this place that thou wilt cut it off, so that nothing shall dwell in it, neither man nor beast, and it shall be desolate for ever.'	62 Et tu diras: Yahvé, toi-même as déclaré à propos de ce lieu qu'il serait détruit, de sorte qu'il ne s'ytrouve plus d'habitant, homme ou bête, mais qu'il soit une désolation perpétuelle.
63 When you finish reading this book, bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of the Euphrates,	63 Une fois achevée la lecture de ce livre, tu y attacheras une pierre et le lancera au milieu del'Euphrate
64 and say, 'Thus shall Babylon sink, to rise no more, because of the evil that I am bringing upon her.'" Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.	64 en disant: Ainsi doit s'abîmer Babylone pour ne plus se relever du malheur que je fais venir surelle." Jusqu'ici les paroles de Jérémie.
