1 Thus says the LORD: "Behold, I will stir up the spirit of a destroyer against Babylon, against the inhabitants of Chaldea;	1 Assim fala o Senhor: Eis que levantarei um espírito destruidor contra Babilônia e contra os habitantes da Caldeia.
2 and I will send to Babylon winnowers, and they shall winnow her, and they shall empty her land, when they come against her from every side on the day of trouble.	2 Vou enviar contra Babilônia padejadores, que a padejarão, que esvaziarão o seu país, porque virão sobre ela de todas as partes, no dia da sua aflição.
3 Let not the archer bend his bow, and let him not stand up in his coat of mail. Spare not her young men; utterly destroy all her host.	3 Contra ela retese o arqueiro o seu arco, proteja-se com a sua couraça! Não poupeis os seus jovens, exterminai toda a sua gente de guerra.
4 They shall fall down slain in the land of the Chaldeans, and wounded in her streets.	4 Cairão mortos na terra dos Caldeus, trespassados nas ruas de Babilônia.
5 For Israel and Judah have not been forsaken by their God, the LORD of hosts; but the land of the Chaldeans is full of guilt against the Holy One of Israel.	5 Porque Israel e Judá não são viúvas do seu Deus, o Senhor dos exércitos, e o país dos Caldeus está cheio de delitos contra o Santo de Israel.
6 "Flee from the midst of Babylon, let every man save his life! Be not cut off in her punishment, for this is the time of the LORD's vengeance, the requital he is rendering her.	6 Fugi (ó Judeus) do meio de Babilônia, salve cada um a sua vida; não pereçais pela sua iniquidade, porque é o tempo da vingança do Senhor: ele mesmo lhe dará o pago.
7 Babylon was a golden cup in the LORD's hand, making all the earth drunken; the nations drank of her wine, therefore the nations went mad.	7 Babilônia era na mão do Senhor um copo de ouro que embriagava toda a terra; beberam as nações do seu vinho, e ficaram por isso enlouquecidas.
8 Suddenly Babylon has fallen and been broken; wail for her! Take balm for her pain; perhaps she may be healed.	8 Babilônia caiu num momento, e ficou arruinada; gemei sobre ela, tomai bálsamo para aplicardes à sua dor, a ver se porventura sara.
9 We would have healed Babylon, but she was not healed. Forsake her, and let us go each to his own country; for her judgment has reached up to heaven and has been lifted up even to the skies.	9 Medicámos Babilônia, e ela não sarou; deixemo-la, e vamos cada qual para a sua terra! Com efeito, o seu juízo chegou até aos céus, elevou-se até às nuvens.
10 The LORD has brought forth our vindication; come, let us declare in Zion the work of the LORD our God.	10 O Senhor manifestou a justiça da nossa causa; vinde e contemos em Sião a obra do Senhor nosso Deus.
11 "Sharpen the arrows! Take up the shields! The LORD has stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes, because his purpose concerning Babylon is to destroy it, for that is the vengeance of the LORD, the vengeance for his temple.	11 Aguçai as setas, enchei as aljavas! O Senhor despertou o espírito dos reis dos Medos, pois o seu desígnio é destruir Babilônia. É a vingança do Senhor, vingança do seu templo.
12 Set up a standard against the walls of Babylon; make the watch strong; set up watchmen; prepare the ambushes; for the LORD has both planned and done what he spoke concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.	12 Contra os muros de Babilônia levantai bandeiras, multiplicai sentinelas; colocai guardas, armai emboscadas, porque o Senhor decretou e vai executar tudo quanto disse contra os moradores de Babilônia.
13 O you who dwell by many waters, rich in treasures, your end has come, the thread of your life is cut.	13 Tu, que habitas à beira das grandes águas, que abundas em tesouros, está chegado o teu fim, o termo das tuas rapinas.
14 The LORD of hosts has sworn by himself: Surely I will fill you with men, as many as locusts, and they shall raise the shout of victory over you.	14 O Senhor dos exércitos jurou por si próprio (dizendo): Eu te encherei de homens como de gafanhotos, que soltarão sobre ti o grito de guerra.
15 "It is he who made the earth by his power, who established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding stretched out the heavens.	15 Foi ele que fez a terra com o seu poder, estabeleceu o mundo com a sua sabedoria e estendeu os céus com a sua inteligência.
16 When he utters his voice there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and he makes the mist rise from the ends of the earth. He makes lightnings for the rain, and he brings forth the wind from his storehouses.	16 A uma voz sua, amontoam-se as águas no céu; levanta as nuvens da extremidade da terra, forma relâmpagos para se produzir o aguaceiro e tira o vento dos seus tesouros.
17 Every man is stupid and without knowledge; every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols; for his images are false, and there is no breath in them.	17 Todo o homem então se tem por néscio, por ignorante, todo o fundidor se envergonha dos seus ídolos, porque é coisa enganosa a sua obra, não tem vida.
18 They are worthless, a work of delusion; at the time of their punishment they shall perish.	18 Vãs são essas obras, dignas de riso; elas perecerão no tempo do castigo.
19 Not like these is he who is the portion of Jacob, for he is the one who formed all things, and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance; the LORD of hosts is his name.	19 Não é assim a porção de Jacob, porque ele é que fez tudo, e Israel é a tribo da sua herança: Senhor dos exércitos é o seu nome.
20 "You are my hammer and weapon of war: with you I break nations in pieces; with you I destroy kingdoms;	20 Tu serves-me de martelo, de instrumento de guerra; por meio de ti arruino nações, por ti destruo reinos;
21 with you I break in pieces the horse and his rider; with you I break in pieces the chariot and the charioteer;	21 esmago por meio de ti o cavalo e o cavaleiro; esmago por meio de ti o carro e o que vai nele;
22 with you I break in pieces man and woman; with you I break in pieces the old man and the youth; with you I break in pieces the young man and the maiden;	22 esmago por meio de ti o homem e a mulher; esmago por meio de ti o velho e o jovem; esmago por meio de ti o mancebo e a virgem;
23 with you I break in pieces the shepherd and his flock; with you I break in pieces the farmer and his team; with you I break in pieces governors and commanders.	23 esmago por melo de ti o pastor e o rebanho; esmago por meio de ti o lavrador e as suas juntas; esmago por meio de ti os capitães e os magistrados.
24 "I will requite Babylon and all the inhabitants of Chaldea before your very eyes for all the evil that they have done in Zion, says the LORD.	24 Depois pagarei a Babilônia e a todos os habitantes da Caldeia todo o mal que fizeram em Sião, ante os vossos olhos, diz o Senhor.
25 "Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain, says the LORD, which destroys the whole earth; I will stretch out my hand against you, and roll you down from the crags, and make you a burnt mountain.	25 Eis-me aqui contra ti, diz o Senhor, ó (Babilônia) montanha de devastação, devastadora de toda a terra; estenderei a minha mão sobre ti, arrancar-te-ei do alto das rochas e te transformarei numa montanha abrasada.
26 No stone shall be taken from you for a corner and no stone for a foundation, but you shall be a perpetual waste, says the LORD.	26 E de ti não mais tomarão pedra angular, nem pedra para fundamentos, mas ficarás uma ruína para sempre, diz o Senhor.
27 "Set up a standard on the earth, blow the trumpet among the nations; prepare the nations for war against her, summon against her the kingdoms, Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz; appoint a marshal against her, bring up horses like bristling locusts.	27 Levantai o estandarte na terra; tocai a trombeta entre as nações; convocai contra ela as nações, convocai os reinos de Ararat, de Minni e Ascenez; alistai contra ela escribas de recrutamento, lançai cavalos como gafanhotos eriçados.
28 Prepare the nations for war against her, the kings of the Medes, with their governors and deputies, and every land under their dominion.	28 Preparai contra ela as nações, o rei da Média, os seus governadores e chefes, e toda a terra dos seus domínios.
29 The land trembles and writhes in pain, for the LORD's purposes against Babylon stand, to make the land of Babylon a desolation, without inhabitant.	29 E comover-se-á a terra e se turbará, porque se realizará contra Babilônia o plano do Senhor de deixar deserta e sem habitante a terra de Babilônia.
30 The warriors of Babylon have ceased fighting, they remain in their strongholds; their strength has failed, they have become women; her dwellings are on fire, her bars are broken.	30 Cessaram de pelejar os fortes de Babilônia, alojaram-se nas cidadelas; consumida foi a sua força, tornaram-se como mulheres. Foram incendiadas as suas habitações, quebrados os seus ferrolhos.
31 One runner runs to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to tell the king of Babylon that his city is taken on every side;	31 Os correios avançam, uns atrás dos outros, correm mensageiros após mensageiros, para anunciar ao rei de Babilônia que a sua cidade está tomada desde uma extremidade à outra,
32 the fords have been seized, the bulwarks are burned with fire, and the soldiers are in panic.	32 que os vaus estão tomados, os baluartes a arder, e que os homens de guerra estão amedrontados.
33 For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor at the time when it is trodden; yet a little while and the time of her harvest will come."	33 Porque assim fala o Senhor dos exércitos, o Deus de Israel; A filha de Babilônia é como uma eira, no tempo em que é calcada; ainda um pouco, e virá o tempo da ceifa.
34 "Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me, he has crushed me; he has made me an empty vessel, he has swallowed me like a monster; he has filled his belly with my delicacies, he has rinsed me out.	34 Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, tragou-me. devorou-me; deixou-me como um vaso desejado, engoliu-me como um dragão, encheu o seu ventre de tudo o que eu tinha de mais delicioso, e deitou-me fora.
35 The violence done to me and to my kinsmen be upon Babylon," let the inhabitant of Zion say. "My blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea," let Jerusalem say.	35 Que a minha despedaçada carne seja contra a Babilônia, diz o povo de Sião; que o meu sangue seja contra os moradores da Caldeia, diz Jerusalém.
36 Therefore thus says the LORD: "Behold, I will plead your cause and take vengeance for you. I will dry up her sea and make her fountain dry;	36 Portanto isto diz o Senhor: Vou tomar a meu cuidado a tua causa, vingar-te-ei, deixarei sem água o seu mar e secarei os seus mananciais.
37 and Babylon shall become a heap of ruins, the haunt of jackals, a horror and a hissing, without inhabitant.	37 Babilônia será reduzida a um montão de escombros, virá a ser a habitação de chacais, objecto de espanto e de escárnio, sem ter quem a habite.
38 "They shall roar together like lions; they shall growl like lions' whelps.	38 (Os Caldeus) rugirão como leões, bramirão como cachorros de leões.
39 While they are inflamed I will prepare them a feast and make them drunk, till they swoon away and sleep a perpetual sleep and not wake, says the LORD.	39 No seu calor lhes darei de beber, embriagá-los-ei, para que adormeçam e durmam um sono sem fim, e não se levantem, diz o Senhor.
40 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams and he-goats.	40 Conduzi-los-ei como cordeiros, que vão a degolar, como carneiros e bodes.
41 "How Babylon is taken, the praise of the whole earth seized! How Babylon has become a horror among the nations!	41 Como foi tomada, vencida a (cidade mais) ilustre de toda a terra? Como é que Babilônia se tornou um objecto de espanto entre as nações?
42 The sea has come up on Babylon; she is covered with its tumultuous waves.	42 Um mar (de inimigos) subiu sobre Babilônia, que foi coberta pela multidão das suas ondas.
43 Her cities have become a horror, a land of drought and a desert, a land in which no one dwells, and through which no son of man passes.	43 As suas cidades tornaram-se um objecto de espanto, terra árida e deserta, terra em que ninguém habita, por onde não passa nenhum filho de homem.
44 And I will punish Bel in Babylon, and take out of his mouth what he has swallowed. The nations shall no longer flow to him; the wall of Babylon has fallen.	44 Castigarei Bel em Babilônia, far-lhe-ei lançar da sua boca o que tinha absorvido. Não mais concorrerão a ele as nações. Até o muro de Babilônia foi a terra!
45 "Go out of the midst of her, my people! Let every man save his life from the fierce anger of the LORD!	45 Sai do meio dela, povo meu. Salve cada um a sua vida do ardente furor do Senhor.
46 Let not your heart faint, and be not fearful at the report heard in the land, when a report comes in one year and afterward a report in another year, and violence is in the land, and ruler is against ruler.	46 Não desfaleça o vosso coração; não temais os rumores que se hão-de espalhar na terra; virá num ano um boato, e depois deste ano outro boato: Violência na terra, tirano contra tirano!
47 "Therefore, behold, the days are coming when I will punish the images of Babylon; her whole land shall be put to shame, and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.	47 Por cuja causa eis que chegam os dias, em que visitarei (com a destruição) os ídolos de Babilônia; todo o seu país será confundido todos os seus mortos cairão no meio dela.
48 Then the heavens and the earth, and all that is in them, shall sing for joy over Babylon; for the destroyers shall come against them out of the north, says the LORD.	48 Então, os céus e a terra e todas as coisas que neles há, alegrar-se-ão pelo acontecido a Babilônia, porque do norte lhe virão os devastadores, diz o Senhor.
49 Babylon must fall for the slain of Israel, as for Babylon have fallen the slain of all the earth.	49 Cairá Babilônia pelos mortos de Israel, como caíram por Babilônia mortos de toda a terra.
50 "You that have escaped from the sword, go, stand not still! Remember the LORD from afar, and let Jerusalem come into your mind:	50 Vós, que fugistes da espada, parti, não fiqueis parados; de longe lembrai-vos do Senhor, suba (a lembrança, de) Jerusalém ao vosso coração.
51 'We are put to shame, for we have heard reproach; dishonor has covered our face, for aliens have come into the holy places of the LORD's house.'	51 Estávamos confundidos (ó Senhor), ouvindo a afronta; cobriam-se de vergonha os nossos rostos, porque tinham vindo estranhos contra o santuário da casa do Senhor.
52 "Therefore, behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will execute judgment upon her images, and through all her land the wounded shall groan.	52 Por cuja causa eis que vêm dias, diz o Senhor, em que destruirei os seus ídolos, em que os feridos de morte gemerão em todo o seu território.
53 Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify her strong height, yet destroyers would come from me upon her, says the LORD.	53 Ainda que Babilônia suba até ao céu e consolide a sua inacessível fortaleza, eu lhe enviarei destruidores, diz o Senhor.
54 "Hark! a cry from Babylon! The noise of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!	54 Um ruído de gritos vem de Babilônia: grande ruína na terra dos Caldeus!
55 For the LORD is laying Babylon waste, and stilling her mighty voice. Their waves roar like many waters, the noise of their voice is raised;	55 É o Senhor que assola Babilônia e faz cessar o seu grande ruído. Soam as suas ondas com o estrondo de muitas águas; a sua voz ressoa tumultuosamente,
56 for a destroyer has come upon her, upon Babylon; her warriors are taken, their bows are broken in pieces; for the LORD is a God of recompense, he will surely requite.	56 porque o exterminador veio sobre Babilônia, e foram presos os seus valentes, e partidos os seus arcos. Sim, o Senhor, que é o Deus das retribuições lhes dará a paga merecida.
57 I will make drunk her princes and her wise men, her governors, her commanders, and her warriors; they shall sleep a perpetual sleep and not wake, says the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.	57 Embriagarei (com o cálice da minha ira) os seus príncipes e os seus sábios, os seus capitães, os seus magistrados e os seus guerreiros, e eles dormirão um sono eterno, não despertarão jamais, diz o rei, cujo nome é Iavé dos exércitos.
58 "Thus says the LORD of hosts: The broad wall of Babylon shall be leveled to the ground and her high gates shall be burned with fire. The peoples labor for nought, and the nations weary themselves only for fire."	58 Assim fala o Senhor dos exércitos: Aquele muro larguíssimo de Babilônia será arruinado de alto a baixo; as suas portas excelsas serão abrasadas pelo fogo. Assim os povos trabalham para o nada, as nações esgotam-se para o fogo.
59 The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, son of Mahseiah, when he went with Zedekiah king of Judah to Babylon, in the fourth year of his reign. Seraiah was the quartermaster.	59 Ordem dada pelo profeta Jeremias a Saraias, filho de Nérias, filho de Maasias, quando ia com o rei Sedecias para Babilônia, no quarto ano do seu reinado. Saraias era camareiro-mor.
60 Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that should come upon Babylon, all these words that are written concerning Babylon.	60 Jeremias escreveu num livro todo o mal que estava para vir sobre Babilônia, todas estas palavras que foram escritas contra Babilônia.
61 And Jeremiah said to Seraiah: "When you come to Babylon, see that you read all these words,	61 Jeremias disse a Saraias: Quando chegares a Babilônia, cuidarás de ler todas estas palavras
62 and say, 'O LORD, thou hast said concerning this place that thou wilt cut it off, so that nothing shall dwell in it, neither man nor beast, and it shall be desolate for ever.'	62 e dirás: Senhor, tu disseste que se destruiria este lugar, de modo que não houvesse quem nele habitasse, desde o homem ao animal, e que ficasse sendo uma perpétua solidão.
63 When you finish reading this book, bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of the Euphrates,	63 Quando acabares de ler este livro, atar-lhe-ás uma pedra, lançá-lo-ás no meio do Eufrates
64 and say, 'Thus shall Babylon sink, to rise no more, because of the evil that I am bringing upon her.'" Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.	64 e dirás: Assim será submersa Babilônia; não se levantará mais da calamidade que vou descarregar sobre ela. Até aqui as palavras de Jeremias.
