Jeremiah 37

1 Zedekiah the son of Josiah, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah, reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim.	1 Le roi Sédécias fils de Josias devint roi à la place de Konias, fils de Joïaqim. En effet, Nabukodonozor roi de Babylone l’avait fait roi du pays de Juda.
2 But neither he nor his servants nor the people of the land listened to the words of the LORD which he spoke through Jeremiah the prophet.	2 Mais ni lui, ni ses serviteurs, ni les propriétaires, n’écoutèrent les paroles que Yahvé disait par la bouche du prophète Jérémie.
3 King Zedekiah sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the priest, the son of Ma-aseiah, to Jeremiah the prophet, saying, "Pray for us to the LORD our God."	3 Le roi Sédécias envoya Youkal fils de Chélémyas, et le prêtre Séfanyas fils d’Amassé, avec ce message pour le prophète Jérémie: “Supplie donc Yahvé notre Dieu pour nous.”
4 Now Jeremiah was still going in and out among the people, for he had not yet been put in prison.	4 À ce moment, Jérémie allait et venait librement, on ne l’avait pas encore mis en prison.
5 The army of Pharaoh had come out of Egypt; and when the Chaldeans who were besieging Jerusalem heard news of them, they withdrew from Jerusalem.	5 Or l’armée du Pharaon était sortie d’Égypte et, en apprenant cette nouvelle, les Kaldéens qui assiégeaient Jérusalem s’étaient éloignés de la ville.
6 Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet:	6 Le prophète Jérémie reçut alors une parole de Yahvé:
7 "Thus says the LORD, God of Israel: Thus shall you say to the king of Judah who sent you to me to inquire of me, 'Behold, Pharaoh's army which came to help you is about to return to Egypt, to its own land.	7 “Voici ce que dit Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël: Vous répondrez ceci au roi de Juda qui vous envoie vers moi pour me consulter: L’armée du Pharaon est bien sortie pour vous secourir, mais elle est déjà en train de retourner chez elle en Égypte,
8 And the Chaldeans shall come back and fight against this city; they shall take it and burn it with fire.	8 et les Kaldéens vont revenir. Ils attaqueront cette ville, ils la prendront et la livreront au feu.
9 Thus says the LORD, Do not deceive yourselves, saying, "The Chaldeans will surely stay away from us," for they will not stay away.	9 Voici ce que dit Yahvé: Vous faites une lourde erreur quand vous affirmez que les Kaldéens sont partis pour de bon. Non, ils ne s’en iront pas!
10 For even if you should defeat the whole army of Chaldeans who are fighting against you, and there remained of them only wounded men, every man in his tent, they would rise up and burn this city with fire.'"	10 Et même si vous pouviez écraser l’armée entière des Kaldéens qui combattent contre vous, s’il n’en restait plus que des blessés, ces hommes sortiraient encore de leurs tentes pour livrer cette ville au feu.”
11 Now when the Chaldean army had withdrawn from Jerusalem at the approach of Pharaoh's army,	11 L’armée des Kaldéens s’était éloignée de Jérusalem en apprenant l’avancée de l’armée du Pharaon.
12 Jeremiah set out from Jerusalem to go to the land of Benjamin to receive his portion there among the people.	12 Jérémie sortit alors de Jérusalem pour se rendre au pays de Benjamin afin d’y partager un héritage avec les siens.
13 When he was at the Benjamin Gate, a sentry there named Irijah the son of Shelemiah, son of Hananiah, seized Jeremiah the prophet, saying, "You are deserting to the Chaldeans."	13 Arrivé à la porte de Benjamin, il tomba sur un chef des gardes du nom de Yiréyaï, fils de Chélémyas fils de Hananyas. Celui-ci arrêta le prophète Jérémie en lui disant: “Tu cherches à passer aux Kaldéens!”
14 And Jeremiah said, "It is false; I am not deserting to the Chaldeans." But Irijah would not listen to him, and seized Jeremiah and brought him to the princes.	14 Jérémie répondit: “Ce n’est pas vrai, je ne vais pas passer aux Kaldéens.” Mais celui-ci refusa de l’écouter. Yiréyaï arrêta donc Jérémie et le conduisit aux chefs.
15 And the princes were enraged at Jeremiah, and they beat him and imprisoned him in the house of Jonathan the secretary, for it had been made a prison.	15 Les chefs se mirent en colère contre Jérémie et le frappèrent, puis ils l’enfermèrent dans la maison du scribe Yonathan, qu’on avait transformée en prison.
16 When Jeremiah had come to the dungeon cells, and remained there many days,	16 Jérémie fut enfermé dans un cachot voûté et il resta là de nombreux jours.
17 King Zedekiah sent for him, and received him. The king questioned him secretly in his house, and said, "Is there any word from the LORD?" Jeremiah said, "There is." Then he said, "You shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon."	17 De là, le roi Sédécias l’envoya chercher pour l’interroger en cachette dans son palais. Il lui dit: “Y a-t-il une parole de Yahvé?” Jérémie lui répondit: “Il y en a une” et il ajouta: “Tu seras livré aux mains du roi de Babylone.”
18 Jeremiah also said to King Zedekiah, "What wrong have I done to you or your servants or this people, that you have put me in prison?	18 Jérémie dit encore au roi Sédécias: “Quel mal ai-je commis contre toi, contre tes officiers et contre ce peuple, pour que tu m’aies mis en prison?
19 Where are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, 'The king of Babylon will not come against you and against this land?	19 Où sont donc vos prophètes qui vous ont annoncé que le roi de Babylone ne viendrait pas contre vous et contre ce pays?
20 Now hear, I pray you, O my lord the king: let my humble plea come before you, and do not send me back to the house of Jonathan the secretary, lest I die there."	20 À présent, monseigneur le roi, écoute, ne repousse pas ma demande: ne me fais pas retourner dans la maison du scribe Yonathan, car je vais y mourir.”
21 So King Zedekiah gave orders, and they committed Jeremiah to the court of the guard; and a loaf of bread was given him daily from the bakers' street, until all the bread of the city was gone. So Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.	21 Le roi Sédécias donna donc l’ordre de transférer Jérémie à la cour de garde et de lui donner chaque jour une boule de pain venant de la rue des boulangers, jusqu’au jour où il n’y aurait plus de pain dans la ville. Jérémie resta donc dans la cour de garde.
