Jeremiah 34

1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and all his army and all the kingdoms of the earth under his dominion and all the peoples were fighting against Jerusalem and all of its cities:	1 Parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de Yahvé, à l'époque où Nabuchodonosor, roi deBabylone, et toute son armée, tous les royaumes de la terre soumis à sa domination et tous les peuples étaient enlutte contre Jérusalem et contre toutes ses villes.
2 "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah and say to him, 'Thus says the LORD: Behold, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.	2 Ainsi parle Yahvé, le Dieu d'Israël: Va! Tu parleras à Sédécias, roi de Juda, et tu lui diras: Ainsiparle Yahvé. Voici que moi, je vais livrer cette ville aux mains du roi de Babylone et il l'incendiera.
3 You shall not escape from his hand, but shall surely be captured and delivered into his hand; you shall see the king of Babylon eye to eye and speak with him face to face; and you shall go to Babylon.'	3 Et toi, tu n'échapperas pas à sa main, mais tu seras bel et bien capturé et remis entre ses mains. Tupourras regarder le roi de Babylone les yeux dans les yeux et lui pourra te parler face à face. Puis tu iras àBabylone.
4 Yet hear the word of the LORD, O Zedekiah king of Judah! Thus says the LORD concerning you: 'You shall not die by the sword.	4 Toutefois, écoute la parole de Yahvé, Sédécias, roi de Juda! Ainsi parle Yahvé à ton sujet: tu nemourras pas par l'épée,
5 You shall die in peace. And as spices were burned for your fathers, the former kings who were before you, so men shall burn spices for you and lament for you, saying, "Alas, lord!"' For I have spoken the word, says the LORD."	5 c'est en paix que tu mourras. Et comme il y eut des parfums pour tes ancêtres, les rois de jadis quifurent avant toi, de même on en brûlera en ton honneur, et pour toi on récitera la lamentation: "Hélas! Seigneur!"C'est moi qui le déclare, oracle de Yahvé.
6 Then Jeremiah the prophet spoke all these words to Zedekiah king of Judah, in Jerusalem,	6 Le prophète Jérémie rapporta toutes ces paroles à Sédécias, roi de Juda, à Jérusalem;
7 when the army of the king of Babylon was fighting against Jerusalem and against all the cities of Judah that were left, Lachish and Azekah; for these were the only fortified cities of Judah that remained.	7 l'armée du roi de Babylone menait alors le combat contre Jérusalem et contre toutes les villes deJuda qui tenaient encore, à savoir Lakish et Azéqa, car parmi les villes de Juda, celles-ci restaient des placesfortes.
8 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after King Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people in Jerusalem to make a proclamation of liberty to them,	8 Parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de Yahvé, après que le roi Sédécias eut conclu avectout le peuple de Jérusalem une alliance pour proclamer un affranchissement:
9 that every one should set free his Hebrew slaves, male and female, so that no one should enslave a Jew, his brother.	9 chacun devait renvoyer libres ses esclaves hébreux, hommes et femmes, personne ne devait plustenir en servitude un Judéen, son frère.
10 And they obeyed, all the princes and all the people who had entered into the covenant that every one would set free his slave, male or female, so that they would not be enslaved again; they obeyed and set them free.	10 Tous les princes et tout le peuple qui avaient participé à cette alliance avaient accepté de renvoyerlibres chacun ses esclaves, hommes et femmes, et de ne plus les tenir en servitude; ils avaient accepté et lesavaient renvoyés.
11 But afterward they turned around and took back the male and female slaves they had set free, and brought them into subjection as slaves.	11 Mais après cela, changeant d'avis, ils avaient repris les esclaves, hommes et femmes, qu'ilsavaient libérés, et les avaient de nouveau réduits en servitude.
12 The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah from the LORD:	12 Alors la parole de Yahvé fut adressée à Jérémie en ces termes:
13 "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: I made a covenant with your fathers when I brought them out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, saying,	13 Ainsi parle Yahvé, le Dieu d'Israël. J'ai conclu avec vos pères, quand je les tirai du pays d'Egypte,de la maison de servitude, une alliance en disant:
14 'At the end of six years each of you must set free the fellow Hebrew who has been sold to you and has served you six years; you must set him free from your service.' But your fathers did not listen to me or incline their ears to me.	14 "Au bout de sept années, chacun de vous libérera son frère hébreu qui se sera vendu à toi; six ansil sera ton esclave, puis tu le renverras libre de chez toi." Mais vos pères ne m'ont pas écouté et n'ont pas prêtél'oreille.
15 You recently repented and did what was right in my eyes by proclaiming liberty, each to his neighbor, and you made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name;	15 Or aujourd'hui vous vous étiez convertis, vous aviez fait ce qui est juste à mes yeux enproclamant l'affranchissement de votre prochain; vous aviez conclu une alliance devant moi, dans le Temple quiporte mon nom.
16 but then you turned around and profaned my name when each of you took back his male and female slaves, whom you had set free according to their desire, and you brought them into subjection to be your slaves.	16 Puis vous avez changé d'avis et, profanant mon nom, vous avez repris chacun votre esclave,homme ou femme, que vous aviez renvoyés libres de leur personne, et les avez forcés à redevenir vos esclaves.
17 Therefore, thus says the LORD: You have not obeyed me by proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother and to his neighbor; behold, I proclaim to you liberty to the sword, to pestilence, and to famine, says the LORD. I will make you a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.	17 C'est pourquoi, ainsi parle Yahvé. Vous ne m'avez pas obéi en rendant la liberté chacun à sonfrère, chacun à son prochain. Eh bien, moi, je vais rendre la liberté contre vous -- oracle de Yahvé -- à l'épée, à lapeste et à la famine, et faire de vous un objet d'épouvante pour tous les royaumes de la terre.
18 And the men who transgressed my covenant and did not keep the terms of the covenant which they made before me, I will make like the calf which they cut in two and passed between its parts--	18 Et ces hommes qui ont trahi mon alliance, qui n'ont pas observé les termes de l'alliance concluepar eux en ma présence, je vais les rendre pareils au veau qu'ils ont coupé en deux pour passer entre sesmorceaux.
19 the princes of Judah, the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs, the priests, and all the people of the land who passed between the parts of the calf;	19 Les princes de Juda et ceux de Jérusalem, les eunuques, les prêtres et tout le peuple du pays, quisont passés entre les morceaux du veau,
20 and I will give them into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their lives. Their dead bodies shall be food for the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth.	20 je les livrerai aux mains de leurs ennemis et aux mains de ceux qui en veulent à leur vie: leurscadavres serviront de nourriture aux oiseaux du ciel et aux bêtes de la terre.
21 And Zedekiah king of Judah, and his princes I will give into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their lives, into the hand of the army of the king of Babylon which has withdrawn from you.	21 Je livrerai aussi Sédécias, roi de Juda, et ses princes aux mains de leurs ennemis, aux mains deceux qui en veulent à leur vie et aux mains de l'armée du roi de Babylone qui vient de se replier loin de vous.
22 Behold, I will command, says the LORD, and will bring them back to this city; and they will fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire. I will make the cities of Judah a desolation without inhabitant."	22 Voici, je vais donner un ordre -- oracle de Yahvé -- et les ramener vers cette ville pour qu'ilsl'attaquent, la prennent et l'incendient. Et je ferai des villes de Juda une solitude où personne n'habite.
