Jeremiah 25

1 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah (that was the first year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon),	1 Questa è la parola che fu indirizzata a Geremia riguardo a tutto il popolo di Giuda, nell'anno quarto di Ioiakìm, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda -- cioè l'anno primo di Nabucodònosor, re di Babilonia --,
2 which Jeremiah the prophet spoke to all the people of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem:	2 quella che il profeta Geremia rivolse a tutto il popolo di Giuda e a tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, dicendo:
3 "For twenty-three years, from the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, to this day, the word of the LORD has come to me, and I have spoken persistently to you, but you have not listened.	3 "Dall'anno tredicesimo di Giosia, figlio di Amon, re di Giuda, fino a questo giorno, sono ventitré anni; la parola del Signore mi fu rivolta e io ho parlato a voi sollecitamente e incessantemente, ma non avete ascoltato.
4 You have neither listened nor inclined your ears to hear, although the LORD persistently sent to you all his servants the prophets,	4 Il Signore ha inviato a voi tutti i suoi servi, i profeti con premura, ma non avete ascoltato, né avete prestato orecchio per ascoltare.
5 saying, 'Turn now, every one of you, from his evil way and wrong doings, and dwell upon the land which the LORD has given to you and your fathers from of old and for ever;	5 Essi dicevano: "Ritornate ciascuno dalla vostra via malvagia e dalla malvagità delle vostre azioni e abiterete sulla terra che il Signore ha dato a voi e ai vostri padri da sempre e per sempre.
6 do not go after other gods to serve and worship them, or provoke me to anger with the work of your hands. Then I will do you no harm.'	6 Non andate dietro ad altri dèi per servirli e per prostrarvi ad essi e non mi irritate con l'opera delle vostre mani e non vi danneggerò".
7 Yet you have not listened to me, says the LORD, that you might provoke me to anger with the work of your hands to your own harm.	7 Ma non mi avete ascoltato, oracolo del Signore, facendomi indignare a causa dell'opera delle vostre mani, per vostra sventura.
8 "Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts: Because you have not obeyed my words,	8 Perciò così dice il Signore degli eserciti: Siccome non avete ascoltato la mia parola,
9 behold, I will send for all the tribes of the north, says the LORD, and for Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants, and against all these nations round about; I will utterly destroy them, and make them a horror, a hissing, and an everlasting reproach.	9 eccomi: io manderò a prendere tutte le genti del settentrione, oracolo del Signore, cioè Nabucodònosor, re di Babilonia, mio servo, e le porterò contro questo paese e contro i suoi abitanti e contro tutte queste nazioni all'intorno; li farò anatèma e li ridurrò a una desolazione, a uno scherno e rovina perpetua.
10 Moreover, I will banish from them the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the grinding of the millstones and the light of the lamp.	10 Io farò cessare da loro la voce di gioia e la voce di letizia, la voce dello sposo e la voce della sposa, il rumore della mola e la luce della lampada.
11 This whole land shall become a ruin and a waste, and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.	11 Tutto questo paese sarà una rovina e una desolazione, e quelle nazioni serviranno il re di Babilonia per settant'anni.
12 Then after seventy years are completed, I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation, the land of the Chaldeans, for their iniquity, says the LORD, making the land an everlasting waste.	12 Compiuti i settant'anni, io visiterò il re di Babilonia e quella nazione, oracolo del Signore, la loro iniquità e il paese dei Caldei, e lo ridurrò a devastazione perpetua".
13 I will bring upon that land all the words which I have uttered against it, everything written in this book, which Jeremiah prophesied against all the nations.	13 Io, dunque, adempirò contro quel paese tutte le mie parole che ho pronunciato contro di esso, tutto ciò che è scritto in questo libro e che ha profetizzato Geremia contro tutte le nazioni.
14 For many nations and great kings shall make slaves even of them; and I will recompense them according to their deeds and the work of their hands."	14 Sì, potenti nazioni e re grandi asserviranno anch'esse e le ripagherò secondo le loro azioni e le opere delle loro mani.
15 Thus the LORD, the God of Israel, said to me: "Take from my hand this cup of the wine of wrath, and make all the nations to whom I send you drink it.	15 Così, infatti, mi parlò il Signore, Dio d'Israele: "Prendi dalla mia mano questa coppa di vino del mio sdegno e falla bere a tutte le nazioni alle quali io ti invierò.
16 They shall drink and stagger and be crazed because of the sword which I am sending among them."	16 Esse berranno, vacilleranno e impazziranno di fronte alla spada che io sfodererò in mezzo ad esse".
17 So I took the cup from the LORD's hand, and made all the nations to whom the Lord sent me drink it:	17 Allora presi la coppa dalla mano del Signore e la feci bere a tutte le nazioni alle quali il Signore mi aveva mandato:
18 Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, its kings and princes, to make them a desolation and a waste, a hissing and a curse, as at this day;	18 Gerusalemme e le città di Giuda, i suoi re e i suoi prìncipi, per ridurli a una rovina, a una desolazione, a un obbrobrio e a una maledizione, come avviene quest'oggi;
19 Pharaoh king of Egypt, his servants, his princes, all his people,	19 il faraone, re d'Egitto, e i suoi ministri e i suoi prìncipi e tutto il suo popolo;
20 and all the foreign folk among them; all the kings of the land of Uz and all the kings of the land of the Philistines (Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod);	20 tutta la popolazione mista e tutti i re del paese di Uz e tutti i re del paese dei Filistei, cioè Ascalòn e Gaza e Accaron e il resto di Asdòd;
21 Edom, Moab, and the sons of Ammon;	21 Edom e Moab e i figli di Ammon;
22 all the kings of Tyre, all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the coastland across the sea;	22 e tutti i re di Tiro e i re di Sidone e i re dell'isola che è al di là del mare;
23 Dedan, Tema, Buz, and all who cut the corners of their hair;	23 Dedan e Tema e Buz e tutte le tempie rasate;
24 all the kings of Arabia and all the kings of the mixed tribes that dwell in the desert;	24 tutti i re di Arabia e tutti i re della popolazione mista che abitano nel deserto;
25 all the kings of Zimri, all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of Media;	25 tutti i re di Zimrì e tutti i re di Elam e tutti i re della Media;
26 all the kings of the north, far and near, one after another, and all the kingdoms of the world which are on the face of the earth. And after them the king of Babylon shall drink.	26 tutti i re del settentrione, vicini e lontani, gli uni e gli altri e tutti i regni che sono sulla superficie della terra. Il re di Sesàc berrà dopo di essi.
27 "Then you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Drink, be drunk and vomit, fall and rise no more, because of the sword which I am sending among you.'	27 Tu, dunque, dirai loro: "Così dice il Signore degli eserciti, Dio di Israele: Bevete, ubriacatevi e vomitate, poi cadete, senza più rialzarvi davanti alla spada che io sfodererò in mezzo a voi.
28 "And if they refuse to accept the cup from your hand to drink, then you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts: You must drink!	28 Se poi qualcuno rifiuta di prendere la coppa dalla tua mano per bere, allora dirai loro: Così dice il Signore degli eserciti: Dovete bere!
29 For behold, I begin to work evil at the city which is called by my name, and shall you go unpunished? You shall not go unpunished, for I am summoning a sword against all the inhabitants of the earth, says the LORD of hosts.'	29 Sì, ecco: contro la città sulla quale è stato invocato il mio nome io incomincio a portare sventura e voi resterete impuniti? Non resterete impuniti, poiché la spada io la chiamerò contro tutti gli abitanti del paese. Oracolo del Signore degli eserciti!
30 "You, therefore, shall prophesy against them all these words, and say to them: 'The LORD will roar from on high, and from his holy habitation utter his voice; he will roar mightily against his fold, and shout, like those who tread grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.	30 Quanto a te dovrai profetizzare loro tutte queste parole. Dirai loro: Il Signore dall'alto ruggisce e dall'abitazione sua santa emette la sua voce. Ruggisce minaccioso contro la sua prateria, grida allegre come i pigiatori emette contro tutti gli abitanti del paese.
31 The clamor will resound to the ends of the earth, for the LORD has an indictment against the nations; he is entering into judgment with all flesh, and the wicked he will put to the sword, says the LORD.'	31 Giunge lo strepito ai confini della terra poiché è in causa il Signore contro le nazioni, è in giudizio con ogni uomo: gli empi li consegnerà alla spada: oracolo del Signore.
32 "Thus says the LORD of hosts: Behold, evil is going forth from nation to nation, and a great tempest is stirring from the farthest parts of the earth!	32 Così dice il Signore degli eserciti: Ecco, la sventura si propaga da nazione a nazione; perché un turbine grande si sveglia dalle estremità della terra".
33 "And those slain by the LORD on that day shall extend from one end of the earth to the other. They shall not be lamented, or gathered, or buried; they shall be dung on the surface of the ground.	33 In quel giorno gli uccisi del Signore saranno da una estremità all'altra della terra; non saranno compianti, né saranno raccolti, né saranno seppelliti; ma saranno quale letame sulla superficie della terra.
34 "Wail, you shepherds, and cry, and roll in ashes, you lords of the flock, for the days of your slaughter and dispersion have come, and you shall fall like choice rams.	34 Urlate, pastori, e gridate, avvolgetevi nel lutto, o potenti del gregge, perché sono compiuti i giorni per il macello; e per tutto ciò che avete disperso, voi cadrete come vaso prescelto.
35 No refuge will remain for the shepherds, nor escape for the lords of the flock.	35 E' scomparso il rifugio dei pastori e lo scampo per i potenti del gregge.
36 Hark, the cry of the shepherds, and the wail of the lords of the flock! For the LORD is despoiling their pasture,	36 Voce schiamazzante dei pastori e ululato dei potenti del gregge, poiché il Signore sta distruggendo il suo pascolo.
37 and the peaceful folds are devastated, because of the fierce anger of the LORD.	37 Sono sconvolti i prati tranquilli di fronte all'ardente ira del Signore.
38 Like a lion he has left his covert, for their land has become a waste because of the sword of the oppressor, and because of his fierce anger."	38 Ha lasciato come leone la sua tana perché la loro terra è divenuta una devastazione di fronte all'ardore che è violento, di fronte all'ardore della sua ira!
