Isaiah 59

1 Behold, the LORD's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear;	1 Ecco, non si è accorciata la mano di Jahvè così da non poter salvare; non è divenuto ottuso il suo orecchio, così da non poter udire.
2 but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you so that he does not hear.	2 Ma le vostre iniquità hanno scavato un abisso fra voi e il vostro Dio; i vostri peccati fanno nascondere la sua faccia da voi, così che non vi ascolta.
3 For your hands are defiled with blood and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue mutters wickedness.	3 Sì, le vostre palme sono macchiate di sangue e le vostre dita di iniquità; le vostre labbra proferiscono menzogne, la vostra lingua bisbiglia perversità.
4 No one enters suit justly, no one goes to law honestly; they rely on empty pleas, they speak lies, they conceive mischief and bring forth iniquity.	4 Nessuno muove causa con giustizia; nessuno la discute con lealtà. Si confida nel nulla e si dice il falso, si concepisce malignità e si genera iniquità.
5 They hatch adders' eggs, they weave the spider's web; he who eats their eggs dies, and from one which is crushed a viper is hatched.	5 Covano uova di serpenti velenosi, tessono tele di ragno; chi mangia di quelle uova morirà, se uno le schiaccia, ne esce una vipera.
6 Their webs will not serve as clothing; men will not cover themselves with what they make. Their works are works of iniquity, and deeds of violence are in their hands.	6 Le loro tele non diventeranno vesti, essi non si copriranno con le loro manifatture; le loro opere sono opere di iniquità, frutto di oppressioni è nelle loro mani.
7 Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood; their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity, desolation and destruction are in their highways.	7 I loro piedi corrono verso il male, si affrettano a spargere sangue innocente; i loro pensieri sono pensieri di iniquità, desolazione e distruzione sono sulle loro strade.
8 The way of peace they know not, and there is no justice in their paths; they have made their roads crooked, no one who goes in them knows peace.	8 Non conoscono la via della pace, non c’è rettitudine nel loro procedere; hanno reso tortuosi i loro sentieri, chiunque vi cammina non conosce la pace.
9 Therefore justice is far from us, and righteousness does not overtake us; we look for light, and behold, darkness, and for brightness, but we walk in gloom.	9 Per questo il diritto si è allontanato da noi e non ci giunge la giustizia. Speravamo la luce, ed ecco le tenebre, lo splendore, ma dobbiamo camminare nel buio.
10 We grope for the wall like the blind, we grope like those who have no eyes; we stumble at noon as in the twilight, among those in full vigor we are like dead men.	10 Tastiamo come ciechi la parete, come privi di occhi procediamo tastoni; inciampiamo a mezzogiorno come al crepuscolo; nel pieno vigore siamo come morti.
11 We all growl like bears, we moan and moan like doves; we look for justice, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far from us.	11 Tutti noi urliamo come orsi, andiamo gemendo come colombe; speravamo nel diritto ma non c’è, nella salvezza ma essa si è allontanata da noi.
12 For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and we know our iniquities:	12 Poiché molteplici sono davanti a te i nostri delitti, i nostri peccati testimoniano contro di noi; poiché i nostri delitti ci sono presenti, noi conosciamo le nostre iniquità:
13 transgressing, and denying the LORD, and turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart lying words.	13 prevaricare e rinnegare Jahvè, cessare di seguire il nostro Dio, parlare di oppressione e di ribellione, proferire di cuore parole menzognere.
14 Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands afar off; for truth has fallen in the public squares, and uprightness cannot enter.	14 Così viene meno il diritto e la giustizia se ne sta lontana, la verità incespica nella piazza, la rettitudine non può entrarvi.
15 Truth is lacking, and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. The LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no justice.	15 Così la verità è scomparsa; chi disapprova il male viene spogliato. Jahvè ha veduto ciò; gli è dispiaciuto che non ci sia più diritto.
16 He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no one to intervene; then his own arm brought him victory, and his righteousness upheld him.	16 Egli ha veduto che non c’era un uomo, si è meravigliato perché nessuno interveniva. Il suo braccio gli è stato di aiuto, la sua giustizia lo ha sostenuto.
17 He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation upon his head; he put on garments of vengeance for clothing, and wrapped himself in fury as a mantle.	17 Egli si è rivestito di giustizia come di una corazza, l’elmo della salvezza sul suo capo. Ha indossato le vesti della vendetta, si è avvolto di zelo come di un mantello.
18 According to their deeds, so will he repay, wrath to his adversaries, requital to his enemies; to the coastlands he will render requital.	18 Il retributore consegnerà ricompense con sdegno ai suoi avversari, con onta per i suoi nemici.
19 So they shall fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun; for he will come like a rushing stream, which the wind of the LORD drives.	19 Da occidente vedranno il nome di Jahvè, dal sorgere del sole la sua gloria, perché egli verrà come un torrente violento, sospinto dal vento di Jahvè.
20 "And he will come to Zion as Redeemer, to those in Jacob who turn from transgression, says the LORD.	20 Un redentore viene per Sion, per i convertiti dall’apostasia in Giacobbe. Oracolo di Jahvè.
21 "And as for me, this is my covenant with them, says the LORD: my spirit which is upon you, and my words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouth of your children, or out of the mouth of your children's children, says the LORD, from this time forth and for evermore."	21 Questa è la mia alleanza con quelli, dice Jahvè: Il mio spirito che è in te e la mia parola che ho posto nella tua bocca non si allontaneranno dalla tua bocca né dalla bocca della tua discendenza né dalla bocca dei discendenti dei discendenti, dice Jahvè, da ora e per sempre.
