Isaiah 47

1 Come down and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon; sit on the ground without a throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans! For you shall no more be called tender and delicate.	1 Scendi, mettiti a sedere sulla polvere, o vergine figlia di Babilonia, siedi in terra: non ha più trono la figlia dei Caldei, perchè non sarai più chiamata la voluttuosa, la delicata.
2 Take the millstones and grind meal, put off your veil, strip off your robe, uncover your legs, pass through the rivers.	2 Gira la mola e macina farina, metti a nudo le tue vergogne, scopri le spalle, nuda le gambe, passa i fiumi.
3 Your nakedness shall be uncovered, and your shame shall be seen. I will take vengeance, and I will spare no man.	3 Sarà scoperta la tua ignominia, sarà veduta la tua vergogna: io farò le mie vendette, e nessuno potrà resistermi.
4 Our Redeemer-- the LORD of hosts is his name-- is the Holy One of Israel.	4 Il nostro redentore si chiama Signore degli eserciti, Santo d'Israele.
5 Sit in silence, and go into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans; for you shall no more be called the mistress of kingdoms.	5 Siedi in silenzio, tra le tenebre, o figlia dei Caldei, perchè non sarai più chiamata signora dei regni.
6 I was angry with my people, I profaned my heritage; I gave them into your hand, you showed them no mercy; on the aged you made your yoke exceedingly heavy.	6 Io, irritato contro il mio popolo, lasciai profanare la mia eredità, l'abbandonai alle tue mani; ma tu non ne avesti pietà, e sopra il vecchio facesti pesare oltre misura il tuo giogo.
7 You said, "I shall be mistress for ever," so that you did not lay these things to heart or remember their end.	7 E dicesti: « Io sarò signora in eterno »: non hai posto attenzione a queste cose, non hai pensato a ciò che ti accadrà in fondo.
8 Now therefore hear this, you lover of pleasures, who sit securely, who say in your heart, "I am, and there is no one besides me; I shall not sit as a widow or know the loss of children":	8 Ed ora ascolta questo, o voluttuosa, che stai in te sicura e dici nel tuo cuore: « Son io, e non c'è altri fuori di me; non resterò mai vedova e ignorerò la sterilità ».
9 These two things shall come to you in a moment, in one day; the loss of children and widowhood shall come upon you in full measure, in spite of your many sorceries and the great power of your enchantments.	9 Queste due cose ti verranno addosso all'improvviso in un sol giorno: sterilità e vedovanza. Tutto questo ti verrà addosso per la moltitudine dei tuoi malefici e per la durezza violenta dei tuoi incantatori.
10 You felt secure in your wickedness, you said, "No one sees me"; your wisdom and your knowledge led you astray, and you said in your heart, "I am, and there is no one besides me."	10 Tu hai confidato nella tua malizia, hai detto: «Nessuno mi vede ». La tua sapienza, la tua scienza ti han sedotto, ed hai detto nel tuo cuore: « Son io, non ce n'è altra fuori di me ».
11 But evil shall come upon you, for which you cannot atone; disaster shall fall upon you, which you will not be able to expiate; and ruin shall come on you suddenly, of which you know nothing.	11 Verrà sopra te la sciagura, e non saprai donde venga; piomberà sopra di te la distruzione, e non potrai scongiurarla; ti verrà addosso all'improvviso una rovina da te mai pensata.
12 Stand fast in your enchantments and your many sorceries, with which you have labored from your youth; perhaps you may be able to succeed, perhaps you may inspire terror.	12 Sta coi tuoi incantatori, colla moltitudine dei tuoi malefici, nei quali ti affaticasti fin dalla tua giovinezza, che forse ti gioverà, e tu diventerai più forte.
13 You are wearied with your many counsels; let them stand forth and save you, those who divide the heavens, who gaze at the stars, who at the new moons predict what shall befall you.	13 Ti sei persa dietro i troppi consiglieri: si presentino e ti salvino gli àuguri del cielo che osservavano gli astri e computavano i mesi, per predirti da ciò il futuro.
14 Behold, they are like stubble, the fire consumes them; they cannot deliver themselves from the power of the flame. No coal for warming oneself is this, no fire to sit before!	14 Ecco, son divenuti come paglia, il fuoco li ha divorati: non potranno liberarsi dalle fiamme, che non sono un braciere per scaldarsi, nè un fuoco da sedervi attorno.
15 Such to you are those with whom you have labored, who have trafficked with you from your youth; they wander about each in his own direction; there is no one to save you.	15 Così sarà di tutte le cose in cui ti sei affannata: quelli che negoziavan teco fin dalla tua giovinezza andaron ciascuno per la sua strada, e non c'è chi ti salvi.
