Isaiah 47

1 Come down and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon; sit on the ground without a throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans! For you shall no more be called tender and delicate.	1 Scendi, ponti a seder nella polvere, o vergine figlia di Babilonia: non è più in trono la figliuola de' Caldei: tu non continuerai ad esser chiamata molle, e delicata.
2 Take the millstones and grind meal, put off your veil, strip off your robe, uncover your legs, pass through the rivers.	2 Dà di mano alla macina, e fa della farina: svela la tua deformità, scuopri gli omeri, e le gambe, valica i fiumi.
3 Your nakedness shall be uncovered, and your shame shall be seen. I will take vengeance, and I will spare no man.	3 La tua ignominia sarà scoperta, e vedrassi il tuo obbrobrio: farò le mie vendette, e nissun uomo a me si opporrà.
4 Our Redeemer-- the LORD of hosts is his name-- is the Holy One of Israel.	4 Redentore nostro è colui, che si chiama Signor degli eserciti, il Santo d'Israele.
5 Sit in silence, and go into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans; for you shall no more be called the mistress of kingdoms.	5 Statti muta, e nasconditi nelle tenebre, o figlia de' Caldei; perchè tunon sarai più chiamata la signora dei regni.
6 I was angry with my people, I profaned my heritage; I gave them into your hand, you showed them no mercy; on the aged you made your yoke exceedingly heavy.	6 Io mi adirai contro del popol mio,rendei come profana la mia eredità, e la posi in tua mano: tu non avesti misericordia di essi: e sopra i vecchi aggravasti forte il tuo giogo.
7 You said, "I shall be mistress for ever," so that you did not lay these things to heart or remember their end.	7 E dicesti: In sempiterno sarò signora: e non pensasti a queste cose, né ti se' ricordata di quel, che era per accaderti alla fine.
8 Now therefore hear this, you lover of pleasures, who sit securely, who say in your heart, "I am, and there is no one besides me; I shall not sit as a widow or know the loss of children":	8 E adesso ascolta queste cose, tu che vivi nelle delizie, e se' piena di arroganza, e dici in cuor tuo: io sono, e altra non è fuori di me: non sarò mai vedova, né sapro che sia sterilità.
9 These two things shall come to you in a moment, in one day; the loss of children and widowhood shall come upon you in full measure, in spite of your many sorceries and the great power of your enchantments.	9 Avverranno a te queste cose subitamente in un sol giorno: tu sarà sterile, e vedova. Tutto questo verrà sopra di te per la moltitudine de' tuoi malefizi, e per la crudeltà somma de' tuoi incantatori.
10 You felt secure in your wickedness, you said, "No one sees me"; your wisdom and your knowledge led you astray, and you said in your heart, "I am, and there is no one besides me."	10 E nella tua malizia ti confidasti, e dicesti: Non è chi mi vegga. La tua sapienza, e la tua scienza ti sedusse, e dicesti: Io sono, e altra non è fuori di me.
11 But evil shall come upon you, for which you cannot atone; disaster shall fall upon you, which you will not be able to expiate; and ruin shall come on you suddenly, of which you know nothing.	11 Verrà sopra di te la sciagura, né saprai donde nasca; e piomberà sopra di te una calamità, cui tu non potrai colle espiazoni allontanare: verrà repentinamente sopra di te una non preveduta miseria.
12 Stand fast in your enchantments and your many sorceries, with which you have labored from your youth; perhaps you may be able to succeed, perhaps you may inspire terror.	12 Stattene co' tuoi incantatori, e colla turba de' tuoi maghi, co' quali avesti tanto da fare fin dalla tua adolescenza, se per sorte ciò possa giovarti alcun poco, o se tu possa divenire più forte.
13 You are wearied with your many counsels; let them stand forth and save you, those who divide the heavens, who gaze at the stars, who at the new moons predict what shall befall you.	13 In mezzo alla moltitudine de' tuoi consiglieri tu ti perdi: sorgano, e diano a te salute gli auguri del cielo, che contemplavan le stelle, e contavano i mesi, affin di predire a te il futuro.
14 Behold, they are like stubble, the fire consumes them; they cannot deliver themselves from the power of the flame. No coal for warming oneself is this, no fire to sit before!	14 Ecco ch'ei son diventati come paglia, il fuoco gli ha divorati: non potran liberare le anime loro dalle fiamme: elle non sono un fuoco fatto per iscaldarsi, oppur per sedervi a crocchio.
15 Such to you are those with whom you have labored, who have trafficked with you from your youth; they wander about each in his own direction; there is no one to save you.	15 Così sarà di tutte quelle cose, per le quali ti desti all'anno: quei, che teco aveano commercio dalla tua adolescenza son fuggiti ognuno per la sua strada: non è chi si salvi.
