Isaiah 31

1 Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the LORD!	1 Guai a coloro, che vanno a cercar aiuto in Egitto, ponendo la loro speranza ne' cavalli, e affidandosi ai cocchi, che sono molti, e ai cavalieri, che sono fortissimi; e non hanno posta la lor fiducia nel Santo d'Israele, e non son ricorsi al Signore.
2 And yet he is wise and brings disaster, he does not call back his words, but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the helpers of those who work iniquity.	2 Ma egli il sapiente ha mandati i disastri, e non ha fatte vane le sue parole: e si leverà su a' danni della casa dei perversi, e a' danni degli aiuti di gente versata nella iniquità.
3 The Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses are flesh, and not spirit. When the LORD stretches out his hand, the helper will stumble, and he who is helped will fall, and they will all perish together.	3 l'Egitto è uomo, e non Dio: e i suoi cavalli sono carne, e non ispirito: e il Signore stenderà la sua mano, e l'aiutatore precipiterà, e andrà per terra colui, cui prestavasi aiuto, e tutti in sieme saran consunti;
4 For thus the LORD said to me, As a lion or a young lion growls over his prey, and when a band of shepherds is called forth against him is not terrified by their shouting or daunted at their noise, so the LORD of hosts will come down to fight upon Mount Zion and upon its hill.	4 Imperocché il Signore ha detto a me: Come un lione, od un lioncello rugge sulla sua preda, e benché vada contro di lui una turba dì pastori, non s'impaurisce pe' loro strepiti, né teme il loro numero: così scenderà il Signor degli eserciti a combattere sul monte di Sion, e sopra la sua collina.
5 Like birds hovering, so the LORD of hosts will protect Jerusalem; he will protect and deliver it, he will spare and rescue it.	5 Come un uccello, che svolazza (in torno al suo nido), così il Signore degli eserciti proteggerà Gerusalemme, la proteggerà, e la libererà, e in passando la salverà.
6 Turn to him from whom you have deeply revolted, O people of Israel.	6 Convertitevi, o figliuoli d'Israele, e quanto fu profondo il vostro allontanamento.
7 For in that day every one shall cast away his idols of silver and his idols of gold, which your hands have sinfully made for you.	7 Imperocché in quel giorno getterà via ogni uomo i suoi idoli d'oro, e i suoi idoli di argento, i quali per gran peccato vi faceste voi colle vostre mani.
8 "And the Assyrian shall fall by a sword, not of man; and a sword, not of man, shall devour him; and he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall be put to forced labor.	8 E perirà l'Assiro di spada non di uomo, e la spada non di uomo lo divorerà, e fuggirà non perseguitato dalla spada; e la sua gioventù pagherà tributo:
9 His rock shall pass away in terror, and his officers desert the standard in panic," says the LORD, whose fire is in Zion, and whose furnace is in Jerusalem.	9 E pel terrore verrà meno la sua fortezza, e i principi di lui fuggitivi saran senza coraggio: ha detto il Signore, il quale ha suo fuoco in Sionne, e suo focolare in Gerusalemme.
