Sirach 49

1 The memory of Josiah is like a blending of incense prepared by the art of the perfumer; it is sweet as honey to every mouth, and like music at a banquet of wine.	1 Il ricordo di Giosia è un composto di vari odori fatto per mano di profumiere.
2 He was led aright in converting the people, and took away the abominations of iniquity.	2 Ad ogni bocca sarà dolce come il miele il suo ricordo, e come musica in un convito col vino.
3 He set his heart upon the Lord; in the days of wicked men he strengthened godliness.	3 Egli fu divinamente diretto a far convertir la nazione e tolse le abominazioni dell'empietà,
4 Except David and Hezekiah and Josiah they all sinned greatly, for they forsook the law of the Most High; the kings of Judah came to an end;	4 e rivolse il suo cuore verso il Signore, e nei giorni degli empi rinvigorì la pietà.
5 for they gave their power to others, and their glory to a foreign nation,	5 Eccettuato David, Ezechia e Giosia, tutti gli altri peccarono;

7 For they had afflicted him; yet he had been consecrated in the womb as prophet, to pluck up and afflict and destroy, and likewise to build and to plant.	7 per questo dovettero dare il loro regno ad altri e la loro gloria a nazione straniera.
8 It was Ezekiel who saw the vision of glory which God showed him above the chariot of the cherubim.	8 Essi incendiarono la città eletta e santa, e ne resero deserte le contrade a causa di Geremia,
9 For God remembered his enemies with storm, and did good to those who directed their ways aright.	9 infatti avevano maltrattato colui che dal seno della madre fu consacrato profeta per abbattere, sradicare, distruggere e di nuovo edificare e rinnovellare.
10 May the bones of the twelve prophets revive from where they lie, for they comforted the people of Jacob and delivered them with confident hope.	10 Fu Ezechiele colui che ebbe la visione della gloria, a lui mostrata sul cocchio dei Cherubini,
11 How shall we magnify Zerubbabel? He was like a signet on the right hand,	11 Adombrò i nemici nella tempesta e il far del bene a coloro che mostrarono retta la loro condotta.
12 and so was Jeshua the son of Jozadak; in their days they built the house and raised a temple holy to the Lord, prepared for everlasting glory.	12 Le ossa dei dodici profeti rifioriscano dai loro sepolcri, perchè essi rinvigorirono Giacobbe e salvarono se stessi colla loro fede coraggiosa.
13 The memory of Nehemiah also is lasting; he raised for us the walls that had fallen, and set up the gates and bars and rebuilt our ruined houses.	13 Come potremo glorificare Zorobabele? Egli fu come un anello nella mano destra.
14 No one like Enoch has been created on earth, for he was taken up from the earth.	14 Così pure Gesù figlio di Iosedec. Essi nei loro giorni riedificarono la casa, innalzarono al Signore il tempio santo, preparato per la gloria eterna.
15 And no man like Joseph has been born, and his bones are cared for.	15 Vivrà a lungo il ricordo di Nehemia, che ci rialzò le mura abbattute, vi ristabilì le porte e le sbarre e rialzò le nostre case.
16 Shem and Seth were honored among men, and Adam above every living being in the creation.	16 Nessuno venne al mondo pari ad Enoc, ed anche lui fu rapito dalla terra.
