Sirach 47

1 And after him Nathan rose up to prophesy in the days of David.	1 Surse di poi Nathan profeta a' tempi di David.
2 As the fat is selected from the peace offering, so David was selected from the sons of Israel.	2 Come il grasso dell'ostia dalla carne si segrega: cosi è Davidde se gregato da' figliuoli di Israele.
3 He played with lions as with young goats, and with bears as with lambs of the flock.	3 Egli scherzò co' leoni come se fossero agnelli, e gli orsi trattò come agnelli nella sua giovinezza.
4 In his youth did he not kill a giant, and take away reproach from the people, when he lifted his hand with a stone in the sling and struck down the boasting of Goliath?	4 Non uccise egli il gigante togliendo l'obbrobrio di sua nazione
5 For he appealed to the Lord, the Most High, and he gave him strength in his right hand to slay a man mighty in war, to exalt the power of his people.	5 Alzata la mano, col sasso della sna frombola, abbattè il trionfante Golia:
6 So they glorified him for his ten thousands, and praised him for the blessings of the Lord, when the glorious diadem was bestowed upon him.	6 Perché egli invocò il Signore onnipotente, il quale diede forza al suo braccio per uccidere un uomo forte in combattere, e per rialzar la gloria di sua nazione.
7 For he wiped out his enemies on every side, and annihilated his adversaries the Philistines; he crushed their power even to this day.	7 Così diede a lui la gloria di avere uccise dieci mila persone, e illustre il rendè colle sue benedizioni, e gli offerse corona di gloria:
8 In all that he did he gave thanks to the Holy One, the Most High, with ascriptions of glory; he sang praise with all his heart, and he loved his Maker.	8 Perocché egli dappertutto conquise i nimici, e sterminò gli avversi Filistei fino al giorno d'oggi, egli fiaccò loro le corna in eterno.
9 He placed singers before the altar, to make sweet melody with their voices.	9 In tutte le sue azioni egli diede gloria al Santo, e all'Eccelso con parole di somma laude:
10 He gave beauty to the feasts, and arranged their times throughout the year, while they praised God's holy name, and the sanctuary resounded from early morning.	10 Con tutto il cuor suo celebrò il Signore, e amò il suo Creatore, il quale lo avea fatto forte contro i nemici:
11 The Lord took away his sins, and exalted his power for ever; he gave him the covenant of kings and a throne of glory in Israel.	11 Egli collocò dinanzi all'altare i cantori, e a' loro canti diede dolce armonia.
12 After him rose up a wise son who fared amply because of him;	12 Aggiunse maestà alla celebrazione delle solennità, e sino al fine di sua vita diede ornamento a' tempi (sagri), facendo, che si lodasse il nome santo del Signore, e di gran mattino si celebrasse la santità di Dio.
13 Solomon reigned in days of peace, and God gave him rest on every side, that he might build a house for his name and prepare a sanctuary to stand for ever.	13 Il Signore lo purificò da suoi peccati, ed esaltò in eterno la sua potenza, e a lui confermò il patto del regno, e il seggio di gloria in Israele.
14 How wise you became in your youth! You overflowed like a river with understanding.	14 Dietro a lui suorse il figliuolo sapiente, e il Signore per amore del padre tenne abbattuta la potenza de' suoi nemici.
15 Your soul covered the earth, and you filled it with parables and riddles.	15 Il regno di Salomone fu tempo di pace, e Dio rendette soggetti tutti i nemici, affinchè egli edificasse una casa al nome di lui, e preparasse un eterno santuario. Quanto fosti tu fornito di scienza nella tua giovinezza,
16 Your name reached to far-off islands, and you were loved for your peace.	16 Tu fosti ripieno di sapienza qual fiume, l'anima tua riscoperse i segreti della terra.
17 For your songs and proverbs and parables, and for your interpretations, the countries marveled at you.	17 E nelle parabole molti enimmi adunasti, il tuo nome si divulgò pelle isole rimote, e fosti amato nella tua pace.
18 In the name of the Lord God, who is called the God of Israel, you gathered gold like tin and amassed silver like lead.	18 Tutte le genti ammirarono i tuoi cantici, e i proverbi, e le parabole, e le interpretazioni;
19 But you laid your loins beside women, and through your body you were brought into subjection.	19 E la protezione del Signore Dio, che Dio d'Israele si noma.
20 You put stain upon your honor, and defiled your posterity, so that you brought wrath upon your children and they were grieved at your folly,	20 Tu adunasti l'oro come il rame, e moltiplicasti l'argento come il piombo;
21 so that the sovereignty was divided and a disobedient kingdom arose out of Ephraim.	21 Dipoi ti soggettasti alle donne, e avesti chi ebbe dominio sopra di te,
22 But the Lord will never give up his mercy, nor cause any of his works to perish; he will never blot out the descendants of his chosen one, nor destroy the posterity of him who loved him; so he gave a remnant to Jacob, and to David a root of his stock.	22 E contaminasti la tua gloria, e profanasti la tua stirpe, tirando addosso a' tuoi figliuoli la vendetta, e andando tanto avanti la tua stoltezza,
23 Solomon rested with his fathers, and left behind him one of his sons, ample in folly and lacking in understanding, Rehoboam, whose policy caused the people to revolt. Also Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin and gave Ephraim a sinful way.	23 Che in due parti facesti dividere il regno, e da Ephraim cominciò un reame di ribelli.
24 Their sins became exceedingly many, so as to remove them from their land.	24 Ma Dio non manderà da parte la sua misericordia, e non guasterà, nè distruggerà le opere sue, e non schianterà dalle radici i nipoti dell'eletto, e non isterminerà la stirpe di lui, che amò il Signore.
25 For they sought out every sort of wickedness, till vengeance came upon them.	25 Ed egli ha lasciate delle, reliquie a Giacobbe, e a David della sua stirpe.
	26 E Salomone riposò co' padri suoi;
	27 E lasciò dopo di se uno de' suoi figliuoli esempio di stoltezza alla sua nazione,
	28 E privo di prudenza Roboamo, il quale co' suoi consigli alienò da se la nazione:
	29 E (lasciò) Jeroboam figliuolo di Nabat, il quale indusse in peccato Israele, e la via di peccare mostrò ad Ephraim, e fu grandissima la piena de' loro peccati;
	30 I quali li scacciarono dalia loro terra.
	31 E (Israele) andò dietro a tutte le scelleraggini fina a tanto che cadde la vendetta sopra di essi, la quale pose fine a tutti i loro peccati.
