Sirach 32

1 If they make you master of the feast, do not exalt yourself; be among them as one of them; take good care of them and then be seated;	1 Fizeram-te rei (do festim)? Não te envaideças com isso. Sê no meio dos outros como qualquer um deles.
2 when you have fulfilled your duties, take your place, that you may be merry on their account and receive a wreath for your excellent leadership.	2 Ocupa-te com eles e em seguida senta-te. Não tomes lugar à mesa, senão após cumpridos os teus deveres, 3. assim te regozijarás por causa deles. Receberás a coroa como um gracioso adorno, e ganharás a consideração dos convivas.
3 Speak, you who are older, for it is fitting that you should, but with accurate knowledge, and do not interrupt the music.
4 Where there is entertainment, do not pour out talk; do not display your cleverness out of season.	4 Tu, mais idoso, fala, pois convém
5 A ruby seal in a setting of gold is a concert of music at a banquet of wine.	5 que sejas o primeiro a falar, com séria competência. Mas não perturbes a música,
6 A seal of emerald in a rich setting of gold is the melody of music with good wine.	6 nem te alongues em discursos, onde não há quem os ouça. Não te engrandeças sem propósito por causa de tua sabedoria.
7 Speak, young man, if there is need of you, but no more than twice, and only if asked.	7 Como uma pedra de rubi engastada no ouro, assim é a música no meio de uma refeição regada a vinho.
8 Speak concisely, say much in few words; be as one who knows and yet holds his tongue.	8 Como um sinete de esmeraldas engastadas em ouro, assim é um grupo de músicos no meio de uma alegre e moderada libação.
9 Among the great do not act as their equal; and when another is speaking, do not babble.	9 Ouve em silêncio, e tua modéstia provocará a benevolência.
10 Lightning speeds before the thunder, and approval precedes a modest man.	10 Jovem, fala muito pouco de teus assuntos privados.
11 Leave in good time and do not be the last; go home quickly and do not linger.	11 Se fores duas vezes interrogado, que tua resposta seja concisa.
12 Amuse yourself there, and do what you have in mind, but do not sin through proud speech.	12 Em muitas coisas, porta-te como se as ignorasses; ouve em silêncio e pergunta.
13 And for these things bless him who made you and satisfies you with his good gifts.	13 No meio dos poderosos, não tomes muitas liberdades; não fales muito onde houver anciãos:
14 He who fears the Lord will accept his discipline, and those who rise early to seek him will find favor.	14 vê-se o relâmpago antes de se ouvir o estalido, a graça precede o rubor da modéstia. Pelo teu recato serás benquisto.
15 He who seeks the law will be filled with it, but the hypocrite will stumble at it.	15 Uma vez chegada a hora de se levantar, não te demores; sê o primeiro a correr para casa, onde te regozijarás com os divertimentos.
16 Those who fear the Lord will form true judgments, and like a light they will kindle righteous deeds.	16 Faze o que te aprouver, porém sem pecado e sem orgulho.
17 A sinful man will shun reproof, and will find a decision according to his liking.	17 E em tudo isso glorifica o Senhor que te criou, e que te cumula de todos os seus bens.
18 A man of judgment will not overlook an idea, and an insolent and proud man will not cower in fear.	18 Aquele que teme o Senhor aceitará sua doutrina, aqueles que vigiam para procurá-lo serão por ele abençoados.
19 Do nothing without deliberation; and when you have acted, do not regret it.	19 Aquele que busca a lei, por ela será cumulado. Aquele, porém, que procede com falsidade, nela achará ocasião de pecado.
20 Do not go on a path full of hazards, and do not stumble over stony ground.	20 Aqueles que temem o Senhor terão um juízo reto, e farão brilhar como uma tocha a sua justiça.
21 Do not be overconfident on a smooth way,	21 O pecador foge da censura, e encontra precedentes segundo o seu desejo.
22 and give good heed to your paths.	22 O homem prudente não perde ocasião alguma para instruir-se, e o estranho ou o orgulhoso não tem nenhum temor;
23 Guard yourself in every act, for this is the keeping of the commandments.	23 mesmo quando age sozinho e sem conselheiro, ele será castigado pelos seus próprios desígnios.
24 He who believes the law gives heed to the commandments, and he who trusts the Lord will not suffer loss.	24 Meu filho, nada faças sem conselho, e não te arrependerás depois de teres agido.
	25 Não te embrenhes num caminho de perdição e não tropeçarás nas pedras. Não te metas num caminho escabroso, para não pores diante de ti uma pedra de tropeço.
	26 Previne-te contra teus filhos, sê prudente em presença de teus familiares.
	27 Em tudo o que fizeres, age com segurança, pois isso é guardar os mandamentos.
