Sirach 3

1 Listen to me your father, O children; and act accordingly, that you may be kept in safety.	1 Figliuoli della sapienza sono congregazione di giusti, e la loro stirpe è ubbidienza, e amore.
2 For the Lord honored the father above the children, and he confirmed the right of the mother over her sons.	2 Figliuoli ascoltate i precetti del padre; e cosi fate per esser salvi.
3 Whoever honors his father atones for sins,	3 Perocché Dio volle onorato il padre dai figli; e vendica, e stabilisce l'autorità della madre sopra i figliuoli.
4 and whoever glorifies his mother is like one who lays up treasure.	4 Chi ama Dio, ottiene il perdon de' peccati, e si guarda da essi, e nella quotidiana orazione sarà esaudito.
5 Whoever honors his father will be gladdened by his own children, and when he prays he will be heard.	5 E quelli, che onora la madre sua, è come chi fa tesori.
6 Whoever glorifies his father will have long life, and whoever obeys the Lord will refresh his mother;	6 Chi onora il padre, averà consolazione de' figliuoli, e nel giorno di sua orazione sarà esaudito.
7 he will serve his parents as his masters.	7 Chi onora il padre suo, avrà vita più lunga, e chi ubbidisce al padre, da ristoro alla madre.
8 Honor your father by word and deed, that a blessing from him may come upon you.	8 Chi teme il Signore, onora i genitori, e come a suoi signori serve a quelli, che lo han generato.
9 For a father's blessing strengthens the houses of the children, but a mother's curse uproots their foundations.	9 Infatti, e in parole, e con tutta pazienza onora il padre tuo;
10 Do not glorify yourself by dishonoring your father, for your father's dishonor is no glory to you.	10 Affinchè la benedizione di lui venga sopra di te, e la benedizione di lui ti accompagni insino al fine.
11 For a man's glory comes from honoring his father, and it is a disgrace for children not to respect their mother.	11 La benedizione del padre felicita le case de' figliuoli; ma la maledizione della madre ne sradica i fondamenti.
12 O son, help your father in his old age, and do not grieve him as long as he lives;	12 Non ti gloriare dell'ignominia del padre tuo: perocché non sarà decoro per te la sua confusione:
13 even if he is lacking in understanding, show forbearance; in all your strength do not despise him.	13 Conciossiachè la gloria di un uomo sta nella buona riputazione del padre suo, ed è disonor del figliuolo un padre disonorato.
14 For kindness to a father will not be forgotten, and against your sins it will be credited to you;	14 Figliuolo prendi cura della vecchiezza del padre tuo, e nol contristare nella sua vita:
15 in the day of your affliction it will be remembered in your favor; as frost in fair weather, your sins will melt away.	15 E se egli rimbambinisce, compatiscilo, e nol disprezzare, perché tu se' più valente: perocché la benevolenza usata al Padre non sarà posta in oblio.
16 Whoever forsakes his father is like a blasphemer, and whoever angers his mother is cursed by the Lord.	16 Pè mancamenti poi della madre avrai tu del bene per mercede,
17 My son, perform your tasks in meekness; then you will be loved by those whom God accepts.	17 E la giustizia sarà il fondamento del tuo edificio, e nel giorno della tribolazione si avrà memoria di te, e i tuoi peccati si discioglieranno, come fa il ghiaccio a' di sereni.
18 The greater you are, the more you must humble yourself; so you will find favor in the sight of the Lord.	18 Quanto infame è colui, che abbandona il genitore, e (come) è maledetto da Dio chi muove ad ira la madre!
19 .	19 Figliuolo fa le cose tue con mansuetudine, e oltre la gloria avrai l'amore degli uomini.
20 For great is the might of the Lord; he is glorified by the humble.	20 Quanto più tu sei grande, umiliati in tutte le cose, e troverai grazia dinanzi a Dio:
21 Seek not what is too difficult for you, nor investigate what is beyond your power.	21 Perocché solo Iddio è grande in possanza, ed egli è onorato dagli umili.
22 Reflect upon what has been assigned to you, for you do not need what is hidden.	22 Non cercare quello, che è sopra di te: e non voler indagare quelle cose, che sorpassano le tue forze; ma pensa mai sempre a quello, che ti ha comandato Iddio; e non esser curioso scrutatore delle molte opere di lui.
23 Do not meddle in what is beyond your tasks, for matters too great for human understanding have been shown you.	23 Perocché non è necessario per te il veder co' tuoi occhi gli occulti arcani.
24 For their hasty judgment has led many astray, and wrong opinion has caused their thoughts to slip.	24 Non voler lambiccarti il cervello per cose superflue, e non esser curioso scrutatore delle molte opere di Dio.
25 .	25 Perocché inultissime cose sono state mostrate a te, le eguali sorpassano l'intelligenza dell'uomo.
26 A stubborn mind will be afflicted at the end, and whoever loves danger will perish by it.	26 Molti ancora sono stati gabbati dalla falsa loro opinione, e le loro congetture li han tenuti nell'errore.
27 A stubborn mind will be burdened by troubles, and the sinner will heap sin upon sin.	27 Il cuor duro si troverà a mal partito nel fine; e chi ama il pericolo, vi perirà.
28 The affliction of the proud has no healing, for a plant of wickedness has taken root in him.	28 Un cuore, che tiene due strade, non sarà prosperato; e l'uomo di cuor perverso vi troverà sua rovina.
29 The mind of the intelligent man will ponder a parable, and an attentive ear is the wise man's desire.	29 Il cuore malvagio si caricherà di dolori; e il peccatore aggiungerà peccato a peccato.
30 Water extinguishes a blazing fire: so almsgiving atones for sin.	30 La adunanza de' superbi è incurabile: perocché il fusto della colpa getta in essi le sue radici, senza ch'ei sé n'accorgano.
31 Whoever requites favors gives thought to the future; at the moment of his falling he will find support.	31 Il cuore dell'uomo saggio si fa conoscere in ritardo alla sapienza, e la buona orecchia ascolterà con avidità somma la sapienza.
	32 Il cuore saggio, e intelligente si guarderà dai peccati; e nelle opere di giustizia riuscirà felicemente.
	33 Il fuoco ardente si spegne coll'acqua, e la limosina resiste a' peccati.
	34 E' Dio è il proveditore di colui, che fa la buona opera, e se ne ricorda in appresso, ed egli troverà appoggio nel tempo della caduta.
