1 Guard your steps when you go to the house of God; to draw near to listen is better than to offer the sacrifice of fools; for they do not know that they are doing evil.	1 - Non essere avventato con la bocca, nè abbia fretta il tuo cuore di far parole al cospetto di Dio. Chè Dio è in cielo e tu sulla terra; perciò sian poche le tue parole.
2 Be not rash with your mouth, nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God, for God is in heaven, and you upon earth; therefore let your words be few.	2 Dalle molte sollecitudini nascono i sogni:[così] nelle molte parole si trova la stoltezza.
3 For a dream comes with much business, and a fool's voice with many words.	3 Quand'hai fatto voto a Dio, non tardare a compierlo, perchè dispiace a lui la promessa infedele e stolta: ciò che con voto hai promesso, mantienlo.
4 When you vow a vow to God, do not delay paying it; for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you vow.	4 Molto meglio è non far voto, che farlo e poi non adempierlo.
5 It is better that you should not vow than that you should vow and not pay.	5 Non soffrir che la tua bocca faccia peccar la tua carne, nè dir davanti all'angelo: «Non ci fu avvertenza»; per tema che Dio, sdegnato del tuo parlare, non distrugga tutta l'opera delle tue mani.
6 Let not your mouth lead you into sin, and do not say before the messenger that it was a mistake; why should God be angry at your voice, and destroy the work of your hands?	6 Perchè dove son molti sogni, molte son le vanità e infiniti i discorsi. Ma tu temi Iddio!
7 For when dreams increase, empty words grow many: but do you fear God.	7 Se vedi l'oppressione del povero, e violati i giudizi e pervertita la giustizia in una provincia, non te ne stupire. Giacchè su chi sta in alto c'è un altro più alto, e altri ancor più eminenti sono su costoro;
8 If you see in a province the poor oppressed and justice and right violently taken away, do not be amazed at the matter; for the high official is watched by a higher, and there are yet higher ones over them.	8 il re finalmente comandaa tutto il paese soggetto.
9 But in all, a king is an advantage to a land with cultivated fields.	9 L'avaro non sarà mai sazio di danaro, e chi agogna le ricchezze, non ne ricaverà provento. Anche questo è vanità!
10 He who loves money will not be satisfied with money; nor he who loves wealth, with gain: this also is vanity.	10 Col crescer delle sostanze crescon quelli che ne mangiano: e qual vantaggio per il padrone, fuor che vederle con i suoi occhi?
11 When goods increase, they increase who eat them; and what gain has their owner but to see them with his eyes?	11 Dolce è il sonno di chi lavora, mangi poco o molto; ma la sazietà del ricco non lo lascia dormire.
12 Sweet is the sleep of a laborer, whether he eats little or much; but the surfeit of the rich will not let him sleep.	12 C'è un altro gravissimo male, che io vidi sotto il sole: le ricchezze conservate a proprio danno del possessore.
13 There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun: riches were kept by their owner to his hurt,	13 Periscon quelle ricchezze in qualche grave disastro: ha dato alla luce un figliuolo, che sarà in estrema miseria.
14 and those riches were lost in a bad venture; and he is father of a son, but he has nothing in his hand.	14 Come nudo uscì dal seno di sua madre, così nudo se ne tornerà via, e nulla porterà con sè del suo lavoro.
15 As he came from his mother's womb he shall go again, naked as he came, and shall take nothing for his toil, which he may carry away in his hand.	15 Male davvero compassionevole questo: com' è venuto, così se n'andrà! Qual vantaggio per lui l'aver gettato le sue fatiche al vento?
16 This also is a grievous evil: just as he came, so shall he go; and what gain has he that he toiled for the wind,	16 Tutti i giorni di sua vita ha mangiato nelle tenebre, e tra molti affanni, nell'infelicità e nella tristezza.
17 and spent all his days in darkness and grief, in much vexation and sickness and resentment?	17 Ecco pertanto quel che mi parve bene: che uno mangi e beva e goda benessereper la fatica con cui si travaglia sotto il sole, ne' giorni di sua vita concessigli da Dio. E questa è la sua parte.
18 Behold, what I have seen to be good and to be fitting is to eat and drink and find enjoyment in all the toil with which one toils under the sun the few days of his life which God has given him, for this is his lot.	18 E a chiunque Dio ha largito ricchezze e beni, e concesso facoltà di fruirne e averne la sua parte, e di goder del suo lavoro, gli è questo un dono di Dio.
19 Every man also to whom God has given wealth and possessions and power to enjoy them, and to accept his lot and find enjoyment in his toil--this is the gift of God.	19 Non molto, infatti, egli penserà a' giorni di sua vita, perchè Iddio ricolma di delizie il suo cuore.
20 For he will not much remember the days of his life because God keeps him occupied with joy in his heart.
