1 Guard your steps when you go to the house of God; to draw near to listen is better than to offer the sacrifice of fools; for they do not know that they are doing evil.	1 Non parlare temerariamente, e il tuo cuore non corra a furia a far parola di Dio; perocché Dio è nel cielo, e tu sulla terra: per questo siano ristretti i tuoi discorsi.
2 Be not rash with your mouth, nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God, for God is in heaven, and you upon earth; therefore let your words be few.	2 Alle molte cure van dietro i sogni, e nel molto discorrere, si trova stoltezza.
3 For a dream comes with much business, and a fool's voice with many words.	3 Se hai fatto a Dio qualche voto, non ritardarne l'adempimento; imperocché dispiace a lui la stolta, e la infedele promessa, ma tu eseguisci quello che hai promesso con voto:
4 When you vow a vow to God, do not delay paying it; for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you vow.	4 E meglio il non far voti, che mancare dopo fatto il voto a quello che s'è promesso.
5 It is better that you should not vow than that you should vow and not pay.	5 Non impiegare la tua parola a far peccare la tua carne, e non dire dinanzi all'Angelo: provvidenza non è, affinchè non avvenga, che Dio sdegnato del tuo parlare, tutte distrugga le opere delle tue mani.
6 Let not your mouth lead you into sin, and do not say before the messenger that it was a mistake; why should God be angry at your voice, and destroy the work of your hands?	6 Dove son molti sogni, vi sono moltissime vanità, e chiacchiere inutili: ma tu abbi il timor di Dio.
7 For when dreams increase, empty words grow many: but do you fear God.	7 Se vedrai oppressi i miserabili, e corrotti i giudizj, e violata la giustizia nel paese, non turbarti per questo; perché colui, che sta in posto sublime ha un altro, che gli soprasta: e questi, pure hanno altri, che sono al di sopra di essi,
8 If you see in a province the poor oppressed and justice and right violently taken away, do not be amazed at the matter; for the high official is watched by a higher, and there are yet higher ones over them.	8 E di più havvi il re, che comanda atutta la terra, che a lui è soggetta.
9 But in all, a king is an advantage to a land with cultivated fields.	9 L'avaro non si sazierà mai di far denaro, e chi ama le ricchezze non ne caverà nessun frutto. Anche questa adunque è vanità.
10 He who loves money will not be satisfied with money; nor he who loves wealth, with gain: this also is vanity.	10 Dove sono molte ricchezze, vi sono anche molti a mangiarne. E che altro ne viene al possessore se non di vedere co' suoi occhi molte ricchezze?
11 When goods increase, they increase who eat them; and what gain has their owner but to see them with his eyes?	11 Dolce è il sonno al bracciante, o poco, o molto, ch'ei mangi: ma la ripienezza non lascia dormire il ricco.
12 Sweet is the sleep of a laborer, whether he eats little or much; but the surfeit of the rich will not let him sleep.	12 Havvi anche un'altra dolorosissima miseria, ch'io vidi sotto del sole: le ricchezze accumulate per ruina del loro padrone.
13 There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun: riches were kept by their owner to his hurt,	13 Perocché elle vanno in fumo con afflizione terribile. Egli ha messo al mondo un figliuolo, che sarà in somma miseria.
14 and those riches were lost in a bad venture; and he is father of a son, but he has nothing in his hand.	14 Egli che nudo usci dal sen della madre, nudo se n'anderà, e nulla porterà seco di sue fatiche.
15 As he came from his mother's womb he shall go again, naked as he came, and shall take nothing for his toil, which he may carry away in his hand.	15 Miseria al certo compassionevole. Qual egli venne, tal partirà. Che giova adunque a lui l'essersi affaticato a raccorre del vento?
16 This also is a grievous evil: just as he came, so shall he go; and what gain has he that he toiled for the wind,	16 Per tutti i giorni di sua vita egli mangiò il suo pane al buio tra molte sollecitudini, nella meschinità, e malinconia.
17 and spent all his days in darkness and grief, in much vexation and sickness and resentment?	17 Io pertanto ho creduto esser ben fatto, che uno mangi, e beva, e goda il frutto delle fatiche, ch'ei sopporta sotto del sole per tutti i giorni di sua vita assegnatigli da Dio: e questo è tutto quello, che gli tocca.
18 Behold, what I have seen to be good and to be fitting is to eat and drink and find enjoyment in all the toil with which one toils under the sun the few days of his life which God has given him, for this is his lot.	18 E quando Dio di ad un uomo ricchezze, e beni, e gli da facoltà di mangiarne, e di goderne la sua porzione, e di trar questo frutto di sue fatiche, questo è dono di Dio.
19 Every man also to whom God has given wealth and possessions and power to enjoy them, and to accept his lot and find enjoyment in his toil--this is the gift of God.	19 Perocché egli non molto si accorgerà dei giorni di sua vita, perché Dio gli tiene il cuore contento.
20 For he will not much remember the days of his life because God keeps him occupied with joy in his heart.
