Proverbs 1

1 The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel:	1 Sentenze di Salomone, figlio di David, re d'Israele, I.
2 That men may know wisdom and instruction, understand words of insight,	2 per conoscere la sapienza e la disciplina,
3 receive instruction in wise dealing, righteousness, justice, and equity;	3 per capire le parole della prudenza, per ricevere l'istruzione della dottrina, la giustizia, il giudizio, l'equità,
4 that prudence may be given to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth--	4 in modo che i piccoli diventino accorti e i giovanetti abbiano conoscenza e riflessione.
5 the wise man also may hear and increase in learning, and the man of understanding acquire skill,	5 Il saggio ascoltando diventerà più saggio, e l'intelligente possederà il modo di regolarsi,
6 to understand a proverb and a figure, the words of the wise and their riddles.	6 comprenderà le sentenze e le loro interpretazioni, le parole dei saggi e i loro enimrni.
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.	7 Il timor del Signore è il principio della sapienza; gli stolti disprezzano la sapienza e la dottrina.
8 Hear, my son, your father's instruction, and reject not your mother's teaching;	8 Ascolta, o figlio, le istruzioni di tuo padre, e non dimenticare gl'insegnamenti di tua madre,
9 for they are a fair garland for your head, and pendants for your neck.	9 e avrai sul capo una corona e al collo una collana.
10 My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.	10 Figlio mio, se i cattivi ti volessero sedurre, non cedere.
11 If they say, "Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood, let us wantonly ambush the innocent;	11 Se dicono: « Vien con noi, insidiamo alla vita, tendiamo lacci all'innocente, che a nulla vale,
12 like Sheol let us swallow them alive and whole, like those who go down to the Pit;	12 ingoiamolo vivo, come fa l'Abisso, tutto intero, come sceso nella fossa:
13 we shall find all precious goods, we shall fill our houses with spoil;	13 troveremo ogni sorta di ricchezze, empiremo di spoglie le nostre case;
14 throw in your lot among us, we will all have one purse"--	14 unisci la tua sorte alla nostra, non ci sia fra noi tutti che Lina sola borsa»,
15 my son, do not walk in the way with them, hold back your foot from their paths;	15 figlio mio, non andar con loro, tieni lontani i tuoi passi dalla loro strada;
16 for their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood.	16 perché i loro piedi corrono al male e si affrettano a sparger del sangue.
17 For in vain is a net spread in the sight of any bird;	17 Ma indarno si tende la rete davanti agli occhi dei pennuti uccelli;
18 but these men lie in wait for their own blood, they set an ambush for their own lives.	18 ed è contro la propria vita che essi tendono insidie, è contro l'anima propria che tramano.
19 Such are the ways of all who get gain by violence; it takes away the life of its possessors.	19 Così va a finire l'avarizia: a toglier la vita di chi l'ha addosso.
20 Wisdom cries aloud in the street; in the markets she raises her voice;	20 La sapienza grida per le vie. alza la sua voce sulle piazze,
21 on the top of the walls she cries out; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks:	21 si fa sentire nei crocicchi affollati, alle porte della città proferisce le sue parole, e dice:
22 "How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge?	22 « Fino a quando, o fanciulli, amerete la fanciullaggine, gli stolti brameranno ciò che li rovina, e gl'insensati odieranno la scienza?
23 Give heed to my reproof; behold, I will pour out my thoughts to you; I will make my words known to you.	23 Volgetevi ai miei rimproveri. Ecco comunicherò a voi il mio spirito e vi dichiarerò le mie parole.
24 Because I have called and you refused to listen, have stretched out my hand and no one has heeded,	24 Siccome vi ho chiamati, e non siete voluti venire, ho stesa la mia mano, e nessuno ci ha badato,
25 and you have ignored all my counsel and would have none of my reproof,	25 e avete disprezzati tutti i miei consigli, e non avete voluto sapere delle mie ammonizioni,
26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when panic strikes you,	26 anch'io riderò nella vostra rovina, e vi schernirò quando vi assalirà il terrore,
27 when panic strikes you like a storm, and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you.	27 quando vi piomberà addosso la sventura, quando come turbine vi sorprenderà la morte, quando verrà sopra di voi la tribolazione e l'angoscia.
28 Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but will not find me.	28 Allora mi chiameranno, ma io non risponderò; mi cercheranno con premura, ma non mi troveranno.
29 Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD,	29 Perchè ebbero in odio la disciplina e non vollero saperne del timore del Signore,
30 would have none of my counsel, and despised all my reproof,	30 non stettero al mio consiglio e malignarono ogni mia correzione,
31 therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way and be sated with their own devices.	31 perciò mangeranno i frutti della loro condotta, e si sazieranno dei propri consigli.
32 For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacence of fools destroys them;	32 L'indocilità di questi fanciulli sarà la loro morte, e la prosperità degli stolti li manderà in rovina.
33 but he who listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of evil."	33 Ma chi mi ascolta vivrà tranquillo nell'abbondanza di ogni bene, senza alcun male.
