To the choirmaster: according to Lilies. A Testimony of Asaph. A Psalm. Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou who leadest Joseph like a flock! Thou who art enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth1 Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest between the cherubims, shine forth.
before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh! Stir up thy might, and come to save us!2 Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh stir up thy strength, and come and save us.
Restore us, O God; let thy face shine, that we may be saved!3 Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
O LORD God of hosts, how long wilt thou be angry with thy people's prayers?4 O LORD God of hosts, how long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy people?
Thou hast fed them with the bread of tears, and given them tears to drink in full measure.5 Thou feedest them with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink in great measure.
Thou dost make us the scorn of our neighbors; and our enemies laugh among themselves.6 Thou makest us a strife unto our neighbours: and our enemies laugh among themselves.
Restore us, O God of hosts; let thy face shine, that we may be saved!7 Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
Thou didst bring a vine out of Egypt; thou didst drive out the nations and plant it.8 Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.
Thou didst clear the ground for it; it took deep root and filled the land.9 Thou preparedst room before it, and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the land.
The mountains were covered with its shade, the mighty cedars with its branches;10 The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof were like the goodly cedars.
it sent out its branches to the sea, and its shoots to the River.11 She sent out her boughs unto the sea, and her branches unto the river.
Why then hast thou broken down its walls, so that all who pass along the way pluck its fruit?12 Why hast thou then broken down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her?
The boar from the forest ravages it, and all that move in the field feed on it.13 The boar out of the wood doth waste it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour it.
Turn again, O God of hosts! Look down from heaven, and see; have regard for this vine,14 Return, we beseech thee, O God of hosts: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;
the stock which thy right hand planted.15 And the vineyard which thy right hand hath planted, and the branch that thou madest strong for thyself.
They have burned it with fire, they have cut it down; may they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance!16 It is burned with fire, it is cut down: they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.
But let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, the son of man whom thou hast made strong for thyself!17 Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself.
Then we will never turn back from thee; give us life, and we will call on thy name!18 So will not we go back from thee: quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.
Restore us, O LORD God of hosts! let thy face shine, that we may be saved!19 Turn us again, O LORD God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
