Psalms 18

1 To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David the servant of the LORD, who addressed the words of this song to the LORD on the day when the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. He said: I love thee, O LORD, my strength.	1 Au maître de chant. Psaume de David, serviteur de Yahvé. Il adressa les paroles de ce cantique à Yahvé le jour où celui-ci l’eut délivré du pouvoir de tous ses ennemis et de la main de Saül.
2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.	2 Il dit: Tu es ma force, Seigneur, et je t’aime.
3 I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.	3 Oui, il est mon rocher, ma forteresse, il est un libérateur: il est mon Dieu. Il est le rocher: en lui j’ai mon abri, il est mon bouclier, ma percée victorieuse.
4 The cords of death encompassed me, the torrents of perdition assailed me;	4 J’invoque le Seigneur, digne de louanges, et je me vois sauvé de mes ennemis.
5 the cords of Sheol entangled me, the snares of death confronted me.	5 Les flots de la mort m’enveloppaient, les torrents diaboliques m’épouvantaient,
6 In my distress I called upon the LORD; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears.	6 j’étais pris dans les filets du monde infernal, je voyais devant moi les pièges de la mort,
7 Then the earth reeled and rocked; the foundations also of the mountains trembled and quaked, because he was angry.	7 dans mon angoisse j’ai appelé le Seigneur, j’ai crié vers mon Dieu. Mon cri est arrivé à ses oreilles et de son Temple il a entendu ma voix.
8 Smoke went up from his nostrils, and devouring fire from his mouth; glowing coals flamed forth from him.	8 Alors la terre a tremblé, elle s’est ébranlée, les fondements des cieux en ont frémi, ils tremblaient en voyant sa colère.
9 He bowed the heavens, and came down; thick darkness was under his feet.	9 Une vapeur montait à ses narines, de sa bouche s’échappait un feu dévorant, il en sortait des charbons embrasés.
10 He rode on a cherub, and flew; he came swiftly upon the wings of the wind.	10 Il inclina les cieux, il descendit, dessous lui s’étendait une nuée obscure.
11 He made darkness his covering around him, his canopy thick clouds dark with water.	11 Il vola, monté sur un chérubin, il apparut sur les ailes du vent.
12 Out of the brightness before him there broke through his clouds hailstones and coals of fire.	12 Tout autour de lui, un rideau de ténèbres, de lourds nuages amoncelés forment sa tente.
13 The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Most High uttered his voice, hailstones and coals of fire.	13 Un éclat le précède, grêles et grêlons de feu.
14 And he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; he flashed forth lightnings, and routed them.	14 Puis dans les cieux éclate son tonnerre: le Seigneur fait entendre sa voix.
15 Then the channels of the sea were seen, and the foundations of the world were laid bare, at thy rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.	15 Il leur lance ses flèches et les voilà en fuite, ses éclairs dispersent ses ennemis.
16 He reached from on high, he took me, he drew me out of many waters.	16 Le plancher des eaux apparaît à découvert, les bases du monde sont mises à nu: c’est l’effet de ta menace, Seigneur, quand passe sur eux le souffle de ton haleine.
17 He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from those who hated me; for they were too mighty for me.	17 D’en haut il a étendu sa main, il m’a pris et m’a arraché aux eaux.
18 They came upon me in the day of my calamity; but the LORD was my stay.	18 Il m’a délivré d’ennemis redoutables, d’un adversaire plus fort que moi,
19 He brought me forth into a broad place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.	19 Ils m’attaquaient au jour de mon malheur, mais le Seigneur s’est fait mon appui.
20 The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he recompensed me.	20 Il m’a mis au large, il m’a sauvé car il m’aime.
21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God.	21 Le Seigneur m’a traité selon mon mérite; mes mains étaient pures, il m’a récompensé.
22 For all his ordinances were before me, and his statutes I did not put away from me.	22 Car je suivais les voies du Seigneur, je n’ai pas péché, m’écartant de mon Dieu.
23 I was blameless before him, and I kept myself from guilt.	23 Tous ses jugements sont présents devant moi, je n’ai pas mis de côté ses commandements.
24 Therefore the LORD has recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.	24 Je suis devant lui sans reproche et je me garde bien de fauter.
25 With the loyal thou dost show thyself loyal; with the blameless man thou dost show thyself blameless;	25 Aussi il me traite selon mes mérites, j’ai les mains pures et lui me récompense.
26 with the pure thou dost show thyself pure; and with the crooked thou dost show thyself perverse.	26 Si l’on est fidèle, tu te montres fidèle, si l’on est sans reproche, tu es irréprochable.
27 For thou dost deliver a humble people; but the haughty eyes thou dost bring down.	27 Si l’on a le cœur droit, tu agis de même, mais si l’homme est retors, tu sais le prendre au piège.
28 Yea, thou dost light my lamp; the LORD my God lightens my darkness.	28 Car tu viens au secours d’un peuple humilié, mais tu fais baisser les yeux aux arrogants.
29 Yea, by thee I can crush a troop; and by my God I can leap over a wall.	29 C’est toi, Seigneur, qui fais briller ma lampe, mon Dieu éclaire mes ténèbres.
30 This God--his way is perfect; the promise of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.	30 Avec toi je fonce sur l’ennemi, avec mon Dieu je saute la muraille.
31 For who is God, but the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God?--	31 Tout est parfait chez mon Dieu et sa parole résiste au feu. Il est un bouclier pour ceux qui s’abritent en lui.
32 the God who girded me with strength, and made my way safe.	32 Qui est Dieu sinon Yahvé? Qui est un roc sinon lui, notre Dieu?
33 He made my feet like hinds' feet, and set me secure on the heights.	33 C’est le Dieu qui me remplit de force et qui devant moi aplanit le chemin.
34 He trains my hands for war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.	34 Il rend mes pieds pareils à ceux des biches et me fait me tenir debout sur les hauteurs.
35 Thou hast given me the shield of thy salvation, and thy right hand supported me, and thy help made me great.	35 Il entraîne mes mains pour le combat, mes bras, pour manier l’arc de bronze.
36 Thou didst give a wide place for my steps under me, and my feet did not slip.	36 Tu me donnes ton salut comme un bouclier, ta main me soutient, tes bontés me grandissent,
37 I pursued my enemies and overtook them; and did not turn back till they were consumed.	37 tu me fais allonger le pas sans que mes chevilles faiblissent.
38 I thrust them through, so that they were not able to rise; they fell under my feet.	38 Je poursuis mes ennemis, je les atteins, je ne reviens que lorsqu’ils sont achevés.
39 For thou didst gird me with strength for the battle; thou didst make my assailants sink under me.	39 Je les frappe: ils ne peuvent se relever, ils tombent et restent à mes pieds.
40 Thou didst make my enemies turn their backs to me, and those who hated me I destroyed.	40 Tu me remplis de force pour le combat, tu fais courber l’échine à mes adversaires.
41 They cried for help, but there was none to save, they cried to the LORD, but he did not answer them.	41 Mon ennemi s’enfuit, je ne vois que son dos, ceux qui me détestent, je les réduis à rien.
42 I beat them fine as dust before the wind; I cast them out like the mire of the streets.	42 Ils peuvent crier, pas de sauveur pour eux, le Seigneur ne leur répond pas.
43 Thou didst deliver me from strife with the peoples; thou didst make me the head of the nations; people whom I had not known served me.	43 Je les réduis en poussière que le vent emporte, je les piétine dans la boue du chemin.
44 As soon as they heard of me they obeyed me; foreigners came cringing to me.	44 Tu me délivres des querelles de mon peuple, tu me places à la tête des nations, un peuple m’obéit qui n’était pas le mien.
45 Foreigners lost heart, and came trembling out of their fastnesses.	45 Les étrangers me font des sourires, dès qu’ils m’entendent, ils obéissent.
46 The LORD lives; and blessed be my rock, and exalted be the God of my salvation,	46 Les étrangers sont à bout de forces, ils sortent en tremblant de leurs villes fortes.
47 the God who gave me vengeance and subdued peoples under me;	47 Vive le Seigneur, béni soit mon rocher! je veux rendre gloire au Dieu qui me sauve.
48 who delivered me from my enemies; yea, thou didst exalt me above my adversaries; thou didst deliver me from men of violence.	48 Ô Dieu, tu m’as accordé ma vengeance, tu m’as soumis les peuples.
49 For this I will extol thee, O LORD, among the nations, and sing praises to thy name.	49 Tu me délivres de mes ennemis et me rends maître de l’agresseur, tu me libères des violents.
50 Great triumphs he gives to his king, and shows steadfast love to his anointed, to David and his descendants for ever.	50 Aussi je veux te rendre gloire, ô Seigneur; je chanterai ton nom chez les païens, je dirai:
	51 “Il donne à son roi victoire sur victoire, gardant sa grâce à celui qu’il a consacré, à David et à sa descendance pour toujours.
