1 A Song of Ascents. Of Solomon. Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.	1 [Ein Wallfahrtslied. Von Salomo.] Wenn der Herr das Haus nicht baut, mühen die Bauleute sich umsonst. Wenn der Herr die Stadt nicht bewacht, späht der Wächter umsonst.
2 It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.	2 Umsonst ist es, daß ihr früh euch erhebt und spät euch niedersetzt, das Brot der Mühsal zu essen. Ganz mit Recht gibt er seinen Geliebten den Schlaf. -
3 Lo, sons are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward.	3 Seht, eine Gabe vom Herrn sind Söhne, eine Belohnung die Leibesfrucht.
4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the sons of one's youth.	4 Wie Pfeile in der Hand des Kriegers sind die Söhne aus jungen Jahren.
5 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.	5 Glücklich der Mann, der mit solchen seinen Köcher gefüllt hat! Sie unterliegen nicht, wenn sie im Tor mit den Gegnern verhandeln.
